Uncle Albert Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 BBC - Sport He is now a doubt for Saturday's vital Premier League game with Manchester United and the Champions League semi-final with Liverpool next week.
Leicester Lass Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Rightly so, too. There's times when football has to take a back seat.

Uncle Albert Posted 24 April 2008 Author Posted 24 April 2008 Didn't realise Harry Redknapp was his uncle. Lamp's Mum and Jamie Redknapp's Mum are sisters. Thats why people thought Lampard becoming a footballer was shite because his Uncle was manager of West Ham and his Dad was the assistant. Hasn't he proved all them people wrong.
SamL Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 I'm glad he's taken a back seat for the time being. It's a time he should really be spending with his family.
Corky Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Desperately sad news. R.I.P Lampard's doing the right thing by not playing. As others have said, football has to take a back seat.
davieG Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Somebodies Mum dies everyday I don't see that plastered all over the press, sure it's sad for him but this sycophantic outpouring over some celebrity footballer is way over the top. State the facts and then let him grieve in peace.

Yawn. There's always one.
Samilktray Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 I agree with the let him grieve in peace part. Not a fan of Franky but hope he copes alright.

What do you mean state the facts?
Bryn Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 I agree with him. There's always many. It's a hugely pointless crusade to take up and yet so many people do it, I fail to see what anyone gets out of it.
Simi Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 What do you mean state the facts? The fact she's passed on... There's always many. It's a hugely pointless crusade to take up and yet so many people do it, I fail to see what anyone gets out of it. I'm not taking up a crusade, just stating my opinion. It's a sad time for there family, let him get on with it. Instead it'll be all over the news for the next few days. When he returns to action "I wonder if he'll still be troubled by his mothers passing" and so on. It's news obviously because of his status, but it should just be left alone to the family.

I fail to see why the media fall over themselves to overstate the situation. Did we see ever sporting headline mention Gradel's mum dying, was it dissected and regurgitated in the minutest detail - No! They should simple report that it's happened and then leave it at that. Every time I've turned on the sports news there's been a good ten minutes about poor old Frank. It's not his fault and I'm sure he doesn't want it, why do the media have to go over the top - that's all I'm asking. I just hate the media's sycophantic pandering to so called celebrities.

It's just the case that there's a lot of people out there to whom Frank Lampard means something and to them it's news that's worth hearing.
lildave3 Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 It's just the case that there's a lot of people out there to whom Frank Lampard means something and to them it's news that's worth hearing. Exactly. Alot of People want to hear about the big players, and most of those won't even know who Gradel is.

I see no problem with them reporting it, but constantly going on about it is tedious and slightly disrespectful I feel.

I see no problem with them reporting it, but constantly going on about it is tedious and slightly disrespectful I feel. Exactly as I also said I'm sure Frank and his family don't need all this attention, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they're all camping outside his house, I'd like to think in the mistaken belief that we the general public want all the detail, but it would seem they are right judging by the way a vaste section of the public can't seem to get enough of celebrity 'news'.

Instead of trying to dictate how people should express sympathy wouldn't your point be better made by not posting in this thread at all?
davieG Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Instead of trying to dictate how people should express sympathy wouldn't your point be better made by not posting in this thread at all? Where did I say how people should express their sympathy?
James. Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 Where did I say how people should express their sympathy? I took your post as a veiled criticism of those that wished to post commiserations in this thread. If that's not the case then I'll retract my earlier comment...
Jack Posted 24 April 2008 Posted 24 April 2008 My thoughts are with Frank and his family and rigthly so he should take a back seat for the time being and spend time with his family. IMO he shouldn't of played in midweek against Liverpool either, you could tell his mind was elsewhere and rightly so and he didn't look mentally stable and the post match interview he looked as if he was about to break down and cry.
