you have to feel sorry for Sven in a way he was forced out of England of which I am in no doubt with Sven still in charge would have easily made Euro2008 with an excellent record to be fair and now forced out of Man City after not getting an instant return which is just crazy

He's finally getting his comeuppance, he survived a long time in the England job doing **** all on a huge salary, now he's doing alright he's getting kicked out. What goes around comes around.

Harsh.

He should never have been expected to work wonders in his first season, and top ten's not too bad is it?

I know he's had money but it's a process that takes time. It's just a shame the chairman's so impatient not to realise that a new manager probably won't do much better. Fool.

Frank Rijkard there next season...!??!

he likes low key, set to leave Barca and will get plently of ££...not impossible is it?

Sven didn't do a terrible job at England but I think we'd all be lying if we say we didn't expect more from his England side, even he admitted the world cup wasn't good enough in 2006. I doubt he'll personally be devastated by this news.

I'd hardly call consistently qualifying for major tournaments and reaching the quarter finals is "doing fook all" given McLaren's recent attempt.

Man City have no money anway. This Thai crook is skint and Sven is just getting out while he can. Sven 'll be at another club paying him stupid money next season, while Citeh will be playing shite football just above the relegation zone as usual.

Manchester City have confirmed that Sven Goran Eriksson has left the club by mutual consent.

The Swedish manager guided City to ninth in the Premier League in his first season in charge at Eastlands but there has been speculation about his future for some time.

City could not maintain their strong start to the season and owner Thaksin Shinawatra announced that he would consider Eriksson's position in the summer.

The club have now confirmed the news that they have parted company with Eriksson.

Chief executive Alistair Mackintosh told the club's official website: "The board of directors and all at Manchester City would like to thank Sven for his efforts and contributions throughout the season and we wish him all the best for the future. Sven remains a friend of the club."

Must be our next manager then - MM's obviously been in touch

Shinawatra is an idiot.

Sven did a good job there.

I think he's being touted as next Mexico manager.

Good luck to him, he's been very very harshly treated.

Mark Hughes given permission by Blackburn Rovers to speak to Manchester City.

Would be a good coup by Manchester City in my opinion.

He's done a good job at Blackburn & I don't think he's good enough for Chelsea, yet.

Frank's got this one wrong, badly wrong. Sven was part of the attraction for City. I know Mark Hughes is a good manager and it'd be terrible for Blackburn to lose him, but players would rather play for Sven than Sparky IMO.

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes has been given permission to hold talks with Manchester City after Sven-Goran Eriksson parted company with the club.

The Welshman has guided Rovers into Europe twice, but recently indicated his long-term ambitions might not be satisfied at Ewood Park.

A Blackburn statement said City had made an approach to talk to Hughes.

"Mark has made it clear to the board he would like the opportunity to talk to Manchester City," it said.

"In view of this, the board have decided reluctantly to give permission subject to terms and conditions acceptable to Blackburn Rovers being agreed with Manchester City in advance."

Former Wales boss Hughes has impressed during his three-and-a-half year spell at Ewood Park, guiding Rovers to seventh in the Premier League last season.

He also led the club to its first FA Cup semi-final in 40 years in 2004 and another in 2007.

Earlier this year, the former Manchester United and Chelsea striker was one of the front-runners to succeed Sam Allardyce as Newcastle manager before Kevin Keegan took the job.

And only last week, he had been tipped to take over at Chelsea after Avram Grant was sacked.

Bookies have Hughes as the favourite for the Chelsea job AND the Man City job now. Don't know which he will choose. Both will demand success and he will have to be brilliant to stay in the job longer than a year. Good luck to him though.

I always though Hughes would be the favourite for the Utd job when Sir Alex retires.

I suppose if he went to Man City this would close this career path? Especially after that Frost interview were Fergie hinted at CQ taking over.
