Matt Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 PORTSMOUTH boss Harry Redknapp has attacked the Welsh FA for lifting Darren Purse’s Wembley ban.Cardiff City skipper Purse looked as if he would miss the FA Cup final on May 17 after being sent off against Burnley last weekend. But the FAW overturned Purse’s three-match ban on Tuesday – and that decision has incensed Redknapp, who insists Pompey would not get the same treatment from the English FA. He said: “We would not get any help at all, would we? We would get a player banned and that would be it, there is nothing you can do about it. “I do not want to see the boy missing the FA Cup final, but it is a bit farcical.” Purse was sent off for a challenge on Andy Cole that left the former Pompey striker needing 10 stitches in a leg wound. Cole was so incensed that he chased Purse down the tunnel at the final whistle and later labelled the City defender a “muppet” who could not play football. “I read Andy Cole said it was the worst tackle he had ever received,” said Redknapp. “Cardiff play in the English league, play in the English cup, want to qualify to represent England in the Uefa Cup and then, when they get a player sent off, it goes before the Welsh FA. “I am not making a big fuss of it, it makes no difference if he plays or not. You just want the same rules for everybody.” But Bluebirds boss Dave Jones insisted: “I said at the time I felt it was harsh and I feel the decision by the FAW is right. “We are pleased for Darren. I was with him when the news came through and you could not have met a happier person. “It is something Andy said and he is going to have to live with it. He will think he was right, but I don’t. “I never will, but I really have no problem with the lad, I am bigger than that.” Cardiff play in the English leagues, but can appeal to the Welsh F.A. Cardiff enter into an English Cup, but can appeal to the Welsh F.A. The English F.A/UEFA try and bend to rules to give Cardiff a place in Europe should Cardiff win, but can appeal to the Welsh F.A. I'd have though Cardiff would have had to go through the English F.A but surly it's abit unfair
Jay Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 it's even worse when you see the it was high dangerous and didn't even look at the ball from what I can see!!to overturn that makes a totally mockery of some sending off and bans this season
Corky Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 It is a disgrace that the Welsh FA have overturned the red card. I wanted Portsmouth to win the Cup anyway but even more so now.
Corky Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 But Bluebirds boss Dave Jones insisted: “I said at the time I felt it was harsh and I feel the decision by the FAW is right. “We are pleased for Darren. Maybes Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 It is a disgrace that the Welsh FA have overturned the red card. They opt to play in the ENGLISH competitions so therefore should definitely abide by the ENGLISH rules. Simple as that.
Matt Posted 6 May 2008 Author Posted 6 May 2008 Also and even more fascicle side to the story; IT has emerged that the chairman of the FAW disciplinary panel that made the incredible decision to rescind Darren Purse's red card is a Cardiff City season ticket holder.Purse was sent off at Turf Moor for a high, late lunge on Clarets striker Andrew Cole, which saw Cole have 10 stitches in a gashed shin, forcing him out of Sunday's season finale at Crystal Palace. But, to the general astonishment of the football community, Purse saw a three-match suspension overturned, enabling him to play at Wembley in the FA Cup Final a week on Saturday. Kieron O'Connor was in charge of the FAW hearing on Tuesday, and has admitted he has been a Ninian Park regular for the past four years. O'Connor confirmed his involvement on the panel, but insisted his casting vote was not required, as his two colleagues, John Harris and Bob Waygood, had already made the decision to overturn the red card, enabling Cardiff skipper Purse to lift the FA Cup if the Bluebirds beat Portsmouth. O'Connor, chief executive of Glamorgan Aluminium, said: "I chaired the meeting and had the casting vote, but it was not needed as the two other councillors voted in favour of the appeal. "We watched the video more than 50 times and the general opinion was that the tackle was no more than clumsy." He added: "I have sat on numerous committees over the years covering Cardiff City, Swansea City, Wrexham and teams from the Welsh Premier League. "Cardiff is just another club, and no bias has been used anywhere. We call decisions as we see it – it is as simple as that." FAW rules dictate that a reckless or clumsy challenge is regarded as a yellow card offence. A reckless challenge with intent to endanger an opponent is a red card offence. http://www.burnleyexpress.net/burnleyfc/Pu...s-on.4051251.jp
Joe. Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 What a load of bollocks. They're in the English Premier League so they should be governed by the English football assocation.
Corky Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 FAW rules dictate that a reckless or clumsy challenge is regarded as a yellow card offence. A reckless challenge with intent to endanger an opponent is a red card offence. I bet that rule came in when they were making the decision
dandannieldanok Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Ridiculous, hypocritical buggers. They play in our leagues and cups and have pushed hard to be an English representative in Europe if necessary, yet they go scarpering off to the more lenient FAW to get a red card rescinded. I don't like Portsmouth or Redknapp but I really hope they win the cup.
davieG Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Also and even more fascicle side to the story;http://www.burnleyexpress.net/burnleyfc/Pu...s-on.4051251.jp Can he guarantee that the other two weren't intimidated by his presence especially if they've come to know each other well. I'm sure sitting on these panels involves a few free lunches and the opportunity to get to know each other.
Maybes Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Oh and perhaps they are even lieing in that statement and he did have the casting vote but the FAW are saving face. Absolute baffonery
Corky Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Get Cardiff out of our league now. If they don't want to oblige by our rules then they can play in the Welsh Premier League.
davieG Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Get Cardiff out of our league now. If they don't want to oblige by our rules then they can play in the Welsh Premier League. Kick them out we'll take their place.
Durnerz Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Just imagine the uproar if he gets the winner at Wembley.
Joe. Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Just imagine the uproar if he gets the winner at Wembley. If his showing against us is anything to go by he'll be a threat to his own goal...
Durnerz Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 If his showing against us is anything to go by he'll be a threat to his own goal... Maybe its not such a bad idea to let him play after all....... Quit your bitching Redknapp!
SamL Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Was a poor challenge, definitely worthy of a red card. It shouldn't have been overturned but if we were in their position, we'd probably want the same. There's just no consistency.

There's just no consistency. No I wouldn't. That tackle deserved a red card, and a four-game ban in my opinion. He was lucky he didn't break Cole's leg. No matter how important that player is, he should still be punished. Rescinding it sends out the wrong message.
Matt Posted 6 May 2008 Author Posted 6 May 2008 I was just talking to my physio about it and he works on a referee, apparently he's refereed 2 Swansea games and he has had to be escorted out of Swansea (Not the stadium, The City ) one of the times he sent a Swansea player of or something (Gave a peno or something...Maybe both) he had to go infront of the F.A Panel (English F.A) and they agreed with his decision, then Swansea appealed to the WFA or something so he had to go infront of their panel...Their panel overuled the English F.A's panel....The story goes something like that anyway, How pathetic.
Uncle Albert Posted 6 May 2008 Posted 6 May 2008 Was a poor challenge, definitely worthy of a red card. It shouldn't have been overturned but if we were in their position, we'd probably want the same. There's just no consistency. Not at all. If Kisnorbo's challenege earlier in the season was a foul on Sharp then I would of accepted the ban, even going into important fixtures. Load of shite, I agree with someone post earlier in the thread. If they want to play in our league then they should play by our rules not go crying to there own mickey mouse F.A when they dont get the right desicion.
The People's Hero Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 The Welsh FA is even more of a joke than the English FA.
Dr The Singh Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 The Welsh FA is even more of a joke than the English FA. it won't make no difference, this will give Redknapp more fire to motivate his players, they will win and purse will be able to do eff all!!!
The People's Hero Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Absolutely. Purse is sh it anyway. Wouldn't surprise me if we sign him when he's about 5 years older and slower and demotivated.
lildave3 Posted 7 May 2008 Posted 7 May 2008 Absolutely.Purse is sh it anyway. Wouldn't surprise me if we sign him when he's about 5 years older and slower and demotivated. He's got a mean punch though.
