Guest Posted 5 July 2009 Posted 5 July 2009 I was doing plenty of 4 mile runs a few months ago instead of longer ones, and I much prefer the longer routes. Quite nice running along the canal (apart when some OAP sat on his bike right across the toe path and forced me to stop, walk around, and into the stinging nettles ) I only went as far as the canal when marathon training; we usually just run from one end of the Great Central Way to the other and back again. You have to be early, especially at weekends, once the groups of dog walkers are out, they do tend to take over the path, and don't like to be disturbed.

Just got back, 15.03 miles There were quite a few walkers out, but thankfully they all stepped aside

Bluefoxtim Posted 6 July 2009 Posted 6 July 2009 I really need to get fit, starting running tomorrow. Did you start? Or did 'something come up'?
General Smuts Posted 6 July 2009 Posted 6 July 2009 Attempted to go to the gym on Satdee but it was closed. Had a chinese and 7 pints instead. My feet are ripped to shreds from football yesterday so it'll be a few days before i return to the gym methinks.

Bellend Sebastian Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Oh balls, I've not been running for ages and I've got to go NOW. If I don't, I'm a failed human being. Why am I making such a fuss. Oh well, here goes
James. Posted 12 July 2009 Author Posted 12 July 2009 Oh balls, I've not been running for ages and I've got to go NOW. If I don't, I'm a failed human being. Why am I making such a fuss. Oh well, here goes Hope it goes better than mine. Just got back, did just over 6km and had to keep stopping every 10 minutes or so. No idea why... I've been doing uphill 10km's in the gym as well as running 5km faster than ever. Does anyone else have really, really bad off days?

I've been doing uphill 10km's in the gym as well as running 5km faster than ever. Does anyone else have really, really bad off days? Well, I survived, but it was hardly pleasant. Did my usual short run (3.6 miles), and it must have been my first for the best part of a month. Just realised, with some fear, that Leicester Half Marathon is only 3 months away. Shit! Yeah, everyone does. Even when I'm in some sort of form, there are days when it just doesn't happen for me

The good thing about it happening in the gym is you can turn the treadmill off, and go and do some alternative cardio. Or cop out completely and use the sauna and steam room! I am building my running back up after my holiday, so managed 5.2 miles.
Bluefoxtim Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Another 13 mile run along the canal.... gonna have to think up a new route though, as the path has been taken over by plant life. Running along and having to duck, jump and push your way through stinging nettles isn't ideal!

Bluefoxtim Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 I shaln't go running there then!! Depends where you are really...it was only a problem where the path was narrow. I saw a bunch of guys with strimmers only a few weeks back, just growing too quickly. Annoying though, as my old 4 mile route across fields is a no go area now as well. Damn farmers - where are your grazing sheep!?

Dezzee Rascal Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Reading this thread finally got me out hitting the streets for the first time in about 2 years earlier today. I did 2.9 miles in 25:30 which I was quite pleased with as it was bloody warm out. I'm aiming for the Great Yorkshire Run in September and then the Sheffield Half next Spring.

cisono Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Have you guys heard of this "streaker", Robert “The Raven” Kraft? He's been running 8 miles on sand every day since 1st Jan 1975! (he's done his back, knees and feet in by doing so/in the meantime) sources: http://www.runningandrambling.com/2009/01/...with-raven.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IygBsxe6eaw http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=streakrun
