Bellend Sebastian Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Go for the 205; you don't need to spend the extra on a heart rate monitor, they really do irritate when you're trying to run. I think heart rate monitors are great! I use mine to motivate myself as sometimes when I'm running and feel a bit knackered, the heart rate monitor will helpfully point out that I'm not working hard at all, and also tell you when you're overdoing it a bit and are likely to run out of steam. Mine also gives me what I believe to be a fairly accurate measure of how many calories I've burned, so I can then work out how many cakes I can eat

No matter how delicately I adjust the band, it's either too loose and moves around too much, or it's too tight. I gave up in the end.

I think I might go with the 205 actually, good point you raised there. Not that interested in a heart rate monitor, Ipod headphones falling out of my ear piss me off enough without extra crap hanging on/in/around/whatever. Just want the GPS and speed/tracking stuff really. Do you know any good sited for them Lisa? My googling skills are decent, but i'm struggling a little bit.

Sorry, as I posted, I've had mine for over a year, but might help. Failing that, Kelkoo or Pricerunner.
The Reverend Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 Sorry, as I posted, I've had mine for over a year, but might help.Failing that, Kelkoo or Pricerunner. Thanks Lisa. Looks like Amazon are cheapest really, £120. I've got Prime aswel, so I'll have it Tuesday. Program starts tomorrow. Bit of a bummer as it'd be nice to have it from the beginning, but I'm edging ever nearer to pressing that confirm purchase button...
The Reverend Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 There, I just got it Its a fair old wedge, but I'm taking it as a positive of how seriously I will be taking this.
The Reverend Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 I like it, if it's any consolation! Ta for the advice by the way. Cant wait to get started really.
Raj Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 Some of you posers might like this- http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000UW5...g=hotukdeals-21 I tried one but couldnt be arsed(Once i had to renew the batteries!!!) Alexikokopops Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 I need some running shoes the astros im running in at the minute aren't that great. It's worth investing in some good shoes. Mine cost about £80 (they were reduced in a sale thank God) but they're so bloody comfy when I'm running.
General Smuts Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 Ta for the advice by the way.Cant wait to get started really. I've only just worked out what WACCOLO stands for.
Guest Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 Ta for the advice by the way.Cant wait to get started really. If you sign up to the Fetcheveryone website, you can also load up your Garmin info to there. I use it to record the work I do on treadmills, for which the Garmin would be of no use.

What make/model are they? I tend to stick to the same ones.....Reebok Premier Road Should really try another pair but dont wanna waste money on a pair that dont fit well...

James. Posted 19 May 2009 Author Posted 19 May 2009 Any tips on treadmill hill training? I've decided to try the following tonight: 5 minutes warm up 1.00km at 1% elevation 0.75km at 2% elevation 0.50km at 3% elevation 0.50km at 4% elevation 0.50km at 3% elevation 0.75km at 2% elevation 1.00km at 1% elevation 5 minutes warm down Total elevated distance = 5km. All done at easy pace (probably about 11km per hour). Given that Windsor is undulating and I have the small matter of Kilimanjaro on the horizon I thought it was best to get stuck into this sooner rather than later.

I just slap it on the hill programme and go from there.
The Reverend Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 My Garmin's arrived! Will get its first run out tomorrow - seems very high tech (though it sounds and the screen looks like a Gameboy!). I'll figure it out.

Monk Posted 29 May 2009 Posted 29 May 2009 Girlfriend back in the country yesterday and she is running the Edinburgh marathon on Sunday - her first. Looks like a great circuit, though glad I'm not doing it!
