I am struggling with my fitness, due to persistent colds. I managed a 10 miler the other weekend, 7.5 miles this Sunday, and I now have another cold. I don't know if I am fit enough for this, but give me a couple more days to decide.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 22 September 2009 Posted 22 September 2009 I've planned all year to do the Leicester one again but realised about a fortnight ago that I've hardly ran at all recently so it would be a bit stupid. I did an 8 miler the Sunday before last, and got round OK which gave me the stupid idea it might actually be a goer, but I was in quite a bit of pain for 3 days afterwards so I've decided not to bother and eat some egg custards instead

General Smuts Posted 22 September 2009 Posted 22 September 2009 I just registered for the Paris Marathon. €67 with cancellation insurance (for my dodgy knee). What have I just done? Good practice on Sunday. Did you get the race pack off of Clem? Mines been delivered to the wrong address so ill have to get there early to get a new pack.
Monk Posted 23 September 2009 Posted 23 September 2009 Good luck smuts, i'll be thinking of you on sunday lunchtime when I'm tucking into my yorkshires. You'll do fine I'm sure.
Jordan Posted 24 September 2009 Posted 24 September 2009 Still in my Whitley Bay hotel after the GNR.Did it in 1 hour 42 mins, came 2827th out of at least 55,000 so quite pleased with that considering it was a damn hot day and I was way, way down in the field and I had to run like a crab to get past the slower folk Very nice finish! I ran a 5K race and was pleasantly surprised to have finished in 21:27--I was really slacking on running this summer and I'm not in as good shape as I was at this time last year, but I still ran better this time than I did in the exact same race last year No half-marathons this year, but since this past weekend has gotten me pumped up, I'm going to run a 10K in October and a 5-mile race in November at the least. I went on a 6.5-mile jog this morning--at last 2 miles longer than any run I'd done this summer. Last but not least, good luck on Sunday, Smuts
James. Posted 24 September 2009 Author Posted 24 September 2009 Yeah good luck Smuts. Sorry I won't be there to beat you. Bit gutted really that I can't be do it but I can't even walk long distances before my knee starts hurting. Haven't done any kind of running for about 6 weeks now.

So, have you made your mind up? I think you should definitely do it - the more people who finish behind me, the better it looks.
General Smuts Posted 24 September 2009 Posted 24 September 2009 Thanks for all the good luck messages. I definately need them! Sods law that me knee is giving me some gip at the moment - the week of the race - but i ran on it yesterday for 45 mins without any hassle, until i stopped running. I'm quietly looking forward to it now actually. Thanks also to everyone who has already sponsored me. It really is for a good cause and one particularly close to my heart, as Transverse Myelitis is a disease which my mother has been suffering from for some years now. Anything i could do to help this charity will always be at the top of my to do list. For anyone who would still like to sponsor me the link is in my sig (& Here). In the words of the great Sir Bob Of Geldof, please 'Give us your fucking money'. Thanks you please.
Raj Posted 24 September 2009 Posted 24 September 2009 Ran 6 miles in 45 mins yday with no adverse effect so im signing up for the Leicester Half!!! As long as do it in under 2 hrs i'll be happy!!! P.S Good Luck Karl......Boy will you need it!!

Guest Posted 24 September 2009 Posted 24 September 2009 So, have you made your mind up? I think you should definitely do it - the more people who finish behind me, the better it looks. I think it would be foolish, in all seriousness, to attempt this. I shall work on my fitness and pace over the next 12 months, and enter when I can reach my goal. This week has been a total write off, and the cold shows no signs of slacking.
Bluefoxtim Posted 25 September 2009 Posted 25 September 2009 I've just been looking through the GNR photo section..and I stumbled across this ugly git £18 for a hi-res digital copy... hmmm
Guest Posted 25 September 2009 Posted 25 September 2009 That is one serious face! I thought the GNR was all about fun!!
Bluefoxtim Posted 25 September 2009 Posted 25 September 2009 That is one serious face! I thought the GNR was all about fun!! My brother managed to spot the guy with the camera, so he was able to pose with a big grin and with his arms out. I was obviously less prepared

General Smuts Posted 26 September 2009 Posted 26 September 2009 On second thoughts getting shitfaced last night was not a great plan. Number 2629 for the event. Hope thats lucky! Hopefully see Alex there tommorrow.
General Smuts Posted 27 September 2009 Posted 27 September 2009 Whoevers idea it was to run the Windsor course is a fucking cunt. Why does it have to have more ups and dows that Peter and Jordans marriage? More hills than the Peak District? And did it need to be Saharan temperatures as well? fook me im in pain now. Struggled round in 2hours 45mins which im more than happy with considering the lack of preperation i had, the fact that i couldn't eat before the race as i was being sick and my complete lack of training plus the above reasons. I should definately have lubed up though! My inner thighs look like i've been attacked with a rake. Thank god its over. Bath time!

There's one particular hill around 8 miles that ruined me last year.
