Phone contracts

Yeah bear in mind there is no danger of a Nokia N95 lasting for 18 months. Mine was coughing and spluttering after 6.

I cancelled my orange contract the other day, but when I went through to cancellations they offered me basically any phone free and £15 off my £29 line rental. Not a bad deal, shame they don't have any decent phones in their range.

is that the n95 black?

£25 - unlimited texts and 500 mins :D

Nice.

Unlike most companies, phone companies are starting to give better value for money. Last summer I bought a phone, £30 a month which only included 1000 texts and 400 minutes. Now you're getting more for less money. :o I always go over my contract as well.

Gotta wait until January before I can change.

I'm not phone racist. Every Nokia I have ever had has gone malfunctioned within a year. Add to that the horrendous battery life and you have yourself a nice ashtray, but a shite phone.

Thats absolutely incredible. What did you say? I've been on Orange 18 months, but technically its my mum, who's been with them a couple of years longer than that. I'm managed to get her to agree to pay it while I'm at Uni, but she won't pay more than 25, which without bartering would get me fook all really.

Exact phone I'm after, too. Are you getting the phone free?

Just one thing. If you ever walk into Phones 4u and are offered a contract with 3, punch the salesman. In the knackers. Everybody who works in the industry knows that 3's customer service is worse than anything that has gone before it in the history of humankind. Including syphilis, fascism, bubonic plague and reality TV. Really, it's THAT terrible.

whad didnt i say.

It took 5 calls for starters and the call before i did the deal on lasted 45 mins. i wanted it for £15 a month but the misers were not moving.

In a nutshell i did all my research, had a read through the orange T's and C's to get a little insight on how orange are tought to think. I had a look around at other operators offers and targeted a battle between t mobile and orange. i played them off against each other on each call bar the last one.

i told orange a white lie. i told them t mobile are offering me the above package minus the bluetooth thingy for £15 a month.

I stressed the guy on the orange DISCONNECTION line for about half an hour... he would offer for example a £5 saving a month on a current tarriff and i would point out its only a £5 saving and t mobile are offering me this etc. This bartering went on for some time and they were not moving....so i got him to check with a manager over and over again, the lowest they were going was £20 a month with managers approval and plenty of smiles and jokes in my voice.

The bit that got it down to £18 a month was at the end of it all i called their bluff - i asked for a PAC code - not too sure what it is but i need it to take my number to another operator. He still did not move on the £20 per month. So i actually risked loosing a great deal by asking for my contract to be cancelled and a PAC code was going to be posted out to me.

About an hour later Orange called me back saying blah blah blah and the bit i wanted to hear we can offer you the above package for £18 a month. I told them the deal could only be done if they throw in the blue tooth visor thing and they agreed.

PS i have just done a similar thing with my broadband, from 17.99 a month to 12.99 a month with home hub, anti virus, 2mb to 10mb free evening calls on land line all barterd for!!

Some great inflation busting tips brought to you from blue blood!!

BT broadband.

it is a hell of a lot easier bartering with bt.

me: virgin media are offering me phone and internet for £15 a month.

BT: ok we can offer you internet and free evening/weekend calls for 12.99 a month

me: is that on an 18 month contract?

BT: No, 12 months

me: Can i have a home hub thrown in too?

BT: let me check, yes you can

me: can you offer me any other savings, its because gordon brown is raising inflation through the roof!! we all have to tighten our belts!! (ha ha ha ha laughing on the line)

BT: lets have a look.......we can offer you an upgrade to your line form 2mb to 10 mb as well as a years anti virus.....also if you do direct debit you can save a further £1,50 a month

me: do i get a 7 day cooling off period?

BT; Yes

Me: Where do i sign?

Posted

oh yea and when i get my phone and extras i will call them back during my '7 day cooling off period' and tell them i am not happy with the blue tooth thingy (its worth £49.99) and i want to cancel my contract after all......unless they offer me the better blue tooth thing (worth £99.99). I will obviously word it better but its worth a try....as blue blood once said.....if you dont ask you dont know!!

ive read the reviews of the 49.99 one and it will more than meet my needs, its just me trying to squeeze more out of them. or i suppose you could call it greed!!

Contracts are for wallies.

Long live the footloose month-by-month mobile warrior!

I suppose it's less important in the UK as there's genuine competition and you can cut yourself deals with the networks if you think you're being dicked... here, you're fooked. You're fooked if you do and fooked if you don't. Just basically fooked. If your carrier is giving you a poor deal, you tell them and they do nothing about it... mostly because they know most people are too lazy to go elsewhere - even though you can take your number with you now (a recent invention - since last year, if I'm not mistaken). Everyone with a mobile is genuinely being taken for a ride for the most part, and half of them don't even realize it. They all have these "SUPER UNLIMITED, LICKS YOUR BOLLOCKS NIGHT AND DAY PLAN!!!!!" which is actually nowhere near unlimited and leads people to ringing up bills in the $1000's. lol

Not me. Keep it simple is the game.

Some of the contracts you jolly folk are harping on about would cost you a hundred quid a month over here. At least. It's insane what a bit of competition can do for your market... I hope we get some genuine competition soon. A new national GSM carrier to compete with the two existing brands would be nice... I call them 'brands' because it's the same company that owns them both... so it's hardly competitive. I'm also hoping Telus jumps into GSM, as has been rumoured... that'd spice things up immeasurably. lol
