Ultra Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 I reckon Davies is up there with the best of the realistic candidates. He did a great job at Preston and did well at the sheep under what ended up being difficult circumstances. ...which according to sources at Derby were largely created by BD himself. An ever-expanding backroom staff, plus frequent hints/threats of moves to other clubs, did as much to seal his fate there as the dire Premier League results.
Ric Flair Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 Billy Davies record at Preston and Derby is stuff only we can dream about right now. If he replicated that here, then Mandaric would have been true to his word. The thing is, Davies is volatile and so is Mandaric. A match made in hell or heaven? We need somebody who can come in and rip this club to pieces and build it up to be mentally strong, with a togetherness to be able to play some football and do this club some justice. Davies stopped the rot at Derby after they just avoided relegation the season before and got them up straight the way, the problem perhaps there was that there wasn't solid enough foundations set for them to survive and in the long run it's caused problems that Paul Jewell has well publicised. But either way, Davies has experience in completely changing things and he also turned Preston from relegation battlers in to promotion chasers for a few seasons running and when he left there, their results soon took a turn for the worst. Davies ticks the boxes in regards to experience at managing a big club at a low level and promotions and play-offs to his name. The football his teams play is more effective than style, but it's not Megson sort of stuff either and his teams have given us a going over in the past. I'm neither massively in favour of Davies nor against him. I respect what he's done in English football and for what we need, he's probably the best out there. Plus, the fact Mandaric hasn't a great track record of unearthing an unproven manager that does the business, may mean we should favour going for someone like Davies. I'm not sure. I still want John Collins and failing that, either Newell or Penney would also be decent choices. Bar any massive fall outs though, Billy Davies would get this club back up quickly and then give us a good go at competing in the top half of the Championship, something Mandaric should snap hands off for.
MikeyT Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 Just that they aint all bad and no Im not from Scotland Its quite alright if you are i have Scottish blood in me its fine! My granny was Scottish!

I'm sure that's what MM wants but the problem seems to be despite what he says when he recruits his managers he just doesn't trust them enough to give them full control; he wants this but wants it done his way with his ideas, with his choice of players in some cases and him making the big decisions that should be left to the manager This either undermines the manager's authority particularly with the players and is counter productive or leads to a falling out. Pure speculation I know but that's the feeling I get.

I think Mandaric would sit back and let them get on with it, if at any stage as a manager they proved that the team was improving under their stewardship. Something Holloway couldn't prove and our other two managers it didn't apply to really as Allen was gone after 4 games and Megson left on his own accord. But I think Milan does definitely have trust issues.

I think it's worse than that after all he didn't trust Rednapp the most successful manager he'd ever employed. What we don't know is if Holloway's failure was in part because of MM or in spite of him, Allen we'll probably never know as for Megson maybe he'd had enough, Bolton weren't exactly a major attraction at that time with relegation looming and seemingly looking to repeat our post MON route to oblivion - perhaps he'd had enough of MM after a few weeks

There was absolutely no reason for him to stay, the media had made a big deal about us not wanting him and the Pro Allen chants at the Forest game and then 'Megson for Bolton' chants against Sheffield United, was hardly going to convince him to stay here.
brookfox Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 "Billy Davies is set to turn his back on the chance to manage Leicester." according to the Daily Star. Anyone actually read the paper and know if it elaborates on the reason?

Anyone actually read the paper and know if it elaborates on the reason? You can read the Daily Star? I thought its existence was nothing more than an urban myth.
brookfox Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 You can read the Daily Star? Oh yeah. They even do a braile version. Page 3 is a very interesting read, they only use two little braile dots on the whole page.
Babylon Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 My cat went to the training ground the other day, he said he saw billy davies coming out of the toilets with a smile on his face. I reckon it's nailed on. He also saw Thracian sniffing an old Alan Sheehan jock strap in the changing rooms. He's on his way.

The People's Hero Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 I hope he hadn't left his car double parked or there's going to be merry hell to pay in General Chat this afternoon. He slashed the tires of an ambulance, they'd only be going out rounding people up to die in our filthy, state-funded death-camp 'hospitals'. Filthy power-crazed, government bast ards. Let the young'uns have a go. Democracy is great in one way - but you know what it gets you - CHOSEN MEN. Chosen. Fu cking. Men. And what are they good for? Bo llocks all. £35 bloody quid, just for parking my car in a playground on top of a disabled child. And the wheelchair damaged my car. Don't suppose I'll be getting compensation for then. Selective justice, that's what it is. I must have mug written. On. My. Forehead.

joely22 Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 Former Motherwell and Derby County boss Billy Davies has admitted that he would be interested in talking to Hearts about their vacant managerial post.Davies is currently without a job after being axed by the Rams and is ready to listen to any possible offers. He told the Edinburgh Evening News: "I would be very keen to listen to Hearts. " My track record speaks for itself. I've got no intention of applying for the Hearts job or any other job. People know what my record is and they know what type of manager I am. "My pedigree is quite clear, they either want that type of manager or they want something different. "If any interested party wants to speak to me, I will listen to them and then make a judgement from there. At the moment there has been no contact from Hearts."
