isaidno Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008 England coach Fabio Capello has brought Peterborough goalkeeper Joe Lewis into his squad after Chris Kirkland returned to Wigan due to a back injury. The Football Association said Kirkland looks set to miss Wednesday's friendly against the United States after having muscle spasms in his back. Lewis and Peterborough won promotion to League One this season. The 20-year-old became Peterborough's record signing in January when he signed for £400,000 from Norwich. "This is fantastic news for Joe and Peterborough United," Peterborough director of football Barry Fry told the club's official website. "It will be a fantastic experience for him." If Lewis makes his debut, he will join a small group of players including Johnny Byrne, Peter Taylor and Steve Bull who have played for England while plying their trade outside the top two divisions
lildave3 Posted 24 May 2008 Posted 24 May 2008  Very odd, but good to see he is taking notice of the lower leagues.
Tevez Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 Lower leagues, gives us hope. Hope about what?? Wait there Oakley and Howard are going to get a phonecall in the next week, and don't tell me Stearman and Mattock either. Such a joker!
SamL Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 He's had a pretty decent season for Peterborough. Will be a valuable experience for the lad, good luck to him.
Jay Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 what sort of message does this give to the likes of Robert Green and Ben Foster though, not a very good one at a guess
RowlattsFox Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 He has just called up the best keeper from the under 21s, the chances of him playing are next to nothing. What would be the point calling up Green etc of their holidays if they have no chance of playing, it'll be a good experience for the lad.

He wont play, but just to be around the squad will do him the world of good.
Tilley Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 Rob Green must be so confused. Yeah, he's had an ok season from what I've seen.

Tommy G Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 I've paid 45 quid to watch international class players, not some wankface keeper from lower leagues Mr Capello
lildave3 Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 I've paid 45 quid to watch international class players, not some wankface keeper from lower leagues Mr Capello He won't be playing I imagine.
Tommy G Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 He won't be playing I imagine. I bloody hope not, I am actually unsure what the XI will be as he could mix it up a bit being as its a friendly. I'm just getting over Jagielka being in the england squad, without this news!
sdb Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 I've paid 45 quid to watch international class players, not some wankface keeper from lower leagues Mr Capello you've paid £45 to watch england?!!
