Matt Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Wayhay! Good the Italians have gone. Defensive bastards. They deserved to go out days ago.
l444ry Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Shame for Italy actually. Worst manager and squad they have had for years. Add to that missing key players and the rest are old. What were they supposed to do? Roll over and let Spain win?
Finnegan Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Shame for Italy actually. Worst manager and squad they have had had for years. Add to that missing key players. What were they supposed to do? Roll over and let Spain win? Oh shut up. There's easily enough quality in Aquilani, Toni, Del Piero, Zambrotta, Grosso and Cassano to make a go of the game. They set out to play the same shit, defensive football they play every championship and they got caught out.

They set out to play the same shit, defensive football they play every championship and they got caught out. Wrong actually. After just qualifying for this tournament with a late goal against SCOTLAND, they set out to attack in this tournament with an adventurous, but not Italian, 4-3-3. After being caught on the break continually by Holland and Rumania, they were lucky to only have to beat a pathetic French team to progress. With the suspensions it became a bridge too far to carry on the same way. I can assure you that, back in Italy, the media and supporters were perplexed by this ludicrous attacking when not good enough. Only in England is defeat accepted so graciously......let's go down fighting....but go down nevertheless. Donadoni is a gonner.

Shearer spoke sence when he accepted why Turkey would play that way but not the bleeding world champions
l444ry Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Shearer spoke sence when he accepted why Turkey would play that way but not the bleeding world champions Then Shearer is a twat. How many times have Turkey won the world cup?
Sparky Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Then Shearer is a twat. How many times have Turkey won the world cup? im sorry ?
l444ry Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 I'll repeat? Italy have won the world cup four times by keeping things tight. Why should they change their winning style to please some English striker who hasn't even managed a whelk stall?

Fez of Mahrez Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 I agree that's the best way to play when you have a lack of quality. If Italy had opened that game up they'd have been done. Italians are the best in the world at that disciplined, functional football and it has served them well. Having said all of that, I am glad they are out. Spain v Russia should be an excellent game, just like it was a couple of weeks ago. This time there's the Arshavin factor though. And Russia look to have tightened up at the back a hell of a lot since that first game. I really couldn't call it but at least they will both be looking to play some decent football.
Joe. Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 I was certainly a Spanish fan in that penalty shootout tonight. Aside from this, it was easily one of the worst games of football I've ever watched. I wished they'd have just skipped the 120 minutes and just got on with the penalties. As soon as 20 minutes had passed it was inevitable what was going to happen. But Spain deserved it. They tried to play football and they created more opportunities than Italy. All in all I'm happy with the result.

Why should they change their winning style to please some English striker who hasn't even managed a whelk stall? I agree with you to be honest. Italy have always been a defensive team and they probably always will be. Yes they have enough attacking flair to go and win a match but why should they when they've become successful from playing their own style? Frustrating I know, but that's the Italians for you.

Yeah agreed, Bolton are another example as well. They were building, becoming better every year - yet criticised strongly because they weren't that exciting? It depends what different people want more, full-out attack entertainment or a better chance of success...each of which would be a fair point.
Darkzzz_ Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 You know i hate some of these comments on some of these websites like goal.com, etc, what right do we have gloating, we are not even half as successful as what the Italians have been. I thought they were awful last night, they really deserved to lose and i live with an Italian (my missus who is really not happy) That is just my honest outlook, i would never start gloating though, i do not see the point, we have no answer, we are not even there!! As a football fan, i have enjoyed the football as a neutral, no pressure, it is great. I now hope the boy in my signature can show us some more magic!
MC Prussian Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Neither team deserved a win yesterday. They should've both been banned and replaced by a more playful side - like the Netherlands. It was an appallingly boring match to watch, neither team actually dared to risk something. They're too much alike and were cancelling each other out for most part. I can understand that tactically speaking, they were both top-notch. But as a viewer, you expect a bit more excitement on the pitch.
Tilley Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Worst match in the quarter finals by a country mile, but what do you expect from the Italians! Negative is an understatement. If Spain play like that against the Russians, then they will lose, regardless of whether they have already beaten them in the group stages. Should hopefully be very exciting from here on in. & come on Russia, that £145 is coming closer & closer.
Phube Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Can I just say Italy = And if that's what Capello has in mind...
crisp monster Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Great result Bedfords full of Italians nice people love their food but do i want them to win ANOTHER major footie tournament do i fcuk slept really well last night no fcuking beepin car horns until 3am

Spain's to lose now. As much as i like some of your comments, you come across as a typical English bleep in this one!! Edit: (Ok that was harsh, i take that back) I just do not get comments like this, it reminds me if when the English fans sing two world wars and one world cup... fook off!! Oh and dont get me started on the "German Bombers" song, oh i sing that because my dad sings it, because war has everything to do with football!! These are some of the things that make me ashamed of being a England fan.... I agree with you about the game being shit and as i have said in previous posts, Italy were awful throughout the Euros, but in the 2006 world cup, not one team in that tournement had a solid team, a proper team like the italians did... they worked for each other, unlike most of the teams and this along with excellent man management from Lippi won them that world cup! The way we over here harp on about 1966 like it was yesterday, its embarrassing, really really does my head in, i can honestly say i have never gloated about 1966, reason being i was not alive, i respect what they done, but i will only gloat when (IF) we actually get to a final and have a chance of winning it.

Maybe he is alittle harsh on the Italian "dog" . But dont see why the emphises on him being "English" twat is all about . He does not harp on abut England once .

He does not harp on abut England once . The first part was aimed at him the rest was fans in general in this country... We always seem to like to put the boot in to others when we are not great ourselves, maybe its just a English thing.... Maybe i am just a fruitcake Anyway.... i have no problem with people having there opinion, it is fine with me!!
Darkzzz_ Posted 24 June 2008 Posted 24 June 2008 Donadoni has been sacked, unsurprisingly. No i am not suprised at all to be honest.... But i applaud the man, to take that job on after the success of Lippi was always going to be difficult.
