Matt Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 According to a report (yes I know its Tribal) Aston Villa boss Martin O`Neil is looking to take Wigan Athletic talisman Emile Heskey back to the MidlandsO`Neil gave Heskey his debut when they were both at Leicester City and O`Neil sold the gifted player to Liverpool where he flourished into a world class striker. Last season the big man made an amazing start and earned himself an England call up and he was sensational in the two internationals that he played in. Unfortunately he broke a metatarsal playing for the Latics against Fulham last September and suffered from niggling injuries for the rest of the season never allowing him to recapture his early season form. Heskey is too important to the Latics to be allowed to go to Villa, indeed they could be seen as one of our main rivals as we aim to challenge for that UEFA Cup spot next season so why would we sell to them anyway. A fully fit Heskey with a good preseason under his belt is just what we need to lead the line at the JJB and help bed in our new Egyptian superstar Amr Zaki. Can't see him going tbh. As much as I hate them he's not "Villa class". O'Neill sold the gifted player to Liverpool where he flourished into a world class striker
Corky Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Can't see him going tbh. As much as I hate them he's not "Villa class". Also, O'Neill did not give him his debut for us, Mark McGhee did. What poor research.
Sparky Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 O Neill didnt give him his debut , Mcghee did away at QPR Beat me to it !
sdb Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 nah that wont happen. he's not consistantly good enough for where they're aiming. and Carew's a pretty similar player who seems to have fit in well there.
Father Ted Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Can't see him going tbh. As much as I hate them he's not "Villa class". Why can't you see him going? I can. But I guess Villa have already got Carew but if Carew was to go there Heskey would be a perfect replacement. And Heskey, when he was at Liverpool was close to being a world class striker. Without him, Owen wouldn't have succeded to the success that he did while Heskey was at Liverpool, shown perfectly by the way they play together for England O Neill didnt give him his debut , Mcghee did away at QPRBeat me to it ! Thought it was Grimsby
Joe. Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 I love old Emile. But I think Wigan's about his level to be fair.

SamL Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Emile Heskey He's no Barry Hayles though to be fair. I'd be surprised if he went to Villa, I think Wigan is his level. Aston Villa already have Harewood, who is a similar player to Heskey so I don't think they need him. Good luck to Emile if he does move though.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Emile Heskey He's no Barry Hayles though to be fair. Seriously now let's cut the crap about Hayles. The guy is shit. Don't even joke about Emile being "no Barry Hayles."
Sods Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Play to his strengths and he is lethal. MON did that and Steve Bruce has started to do it again.
Joe. Posted 22 June 2008 Posted 22 June 2008 Heskey's a perfect striker partner for somebody to just play off him (Owen is a shining example of this). Most of the stick he gets is very, very harsh.
Tilley Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Seriously now let's cut the crap about Hayles. The guy is shit. Don't even joke about Emile being "no Barry Hayles." I don't understand this Barry Hayles nonsense, he's shit. He needs to be sold this summer, because he is crap. - - - - - Heskey at Villa? I don't think Heskey would be good there, Villa are looking at big things, & I think Wigan is Heskey's level.
wirralsimon Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Barry Hayles is a god.Emile aspires to be him. But they are both kept in the shade by Ricky Sappleton....
Samilktray Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 But they are both kept in the shade by Ricky Sappleton.... Truth.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Truth. I agree with your opinion on this though.
Samilktray Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 I agree with your opinion on this though. You damn right you do.
breadandcheese Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 This bit in the article made me laugh Heskey is too important to the Latics to be allowed to go to Villa, indeed they could be seen as one of our main rivals as we aim to challenge for that UEFA Cup spot next season so why would we sell to them anyway. Wigan, challenging for 5th place? At least there are some fans more delusional than ours. With regards Heskey, Liverpool changed his style to suit Owen, which I felt ruined him a bit. In terms of his class, you only have to look at the damage he did to Russia to see he is a very good player. He almost single-handedly tore them apart. If a Dutch player had done that on Saturday, Holland would have progressed and there would be valuations of £15 million thrown about.

Matt Posted 23 June 2008 Author Posted 23 June 2008 We'd only get £1.50 and a Ready Brek token for him! Do a BOGOF offer - Buy Stevie Howard get Barry Hayles free.
Corky Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Play to his strengths and he is lethal. MON did that and Steve Bruce has started to do it again. Do you remember his goal against Tottenham in the "O'Neill to stay" match? Turned the defender and lashed it in the top corner. Typical Bruno. When he was on form at us no defender could cope with him.
MikeyT Posted 23 June 2008 Posted 23 June 2008 Do a BOGOF offer - Buy Stevie Howard get Barry Hayles free. Ah, never thought of that! Good idea!
