syston_fox Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 I didnt expect to watch as much of this as I have what with England not being in it but in some respects it's been better. After the crap season we've had with Leicester I don't think I could have taken any more disappointment from football. Wouldn't like to make a habbit of england missing out though!

Ultra Posted 29 June 2008 Posted 29 June 2008 Euro 2008 has been as good a tournament as I can remember. There have been at least at least a dozen quality matches - and almost as many quality teams. It reminded us what a wonderful game football is - just what we needed after all the cack we've had to endure during the past season in particular. And with England not there, we didn't have to worry about hooligans or WAGS hogging the limelight. One or two big-name players failed to make the impression we might have expected. But there were many more waiting in the wings to seize their chance of glory. And the Spanish team that emerged triumphant were as good a team I've seen in this tournament during the past 20 years. Given that it's basically a young side, it could dominate European and even world football for many years to come!
Daggers Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 It is disgraceful that (once again) the sorry face of violence smears an otherwise enjoyable tournament. Ridiculous displays of xenophobia and idiotic chanting about world wars have ruined the opportunity for many to simply relax and enjoy the matches - when will these idiots ever learn? Oh hang on, it didn't happen did it...now I wonder if anyone could put a finger on what was missing from Euro08 that may be directly linked to such scenes of stupidity? If we can identify it then maybe it could be arranged for it to happen every tourno. What's that? Did someone say Ingerland? Here's hoping they **** up the WC qualifiers too
Thracian Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Interesting that a 70-year-old coach should show all of Europe how football should be played. Possession is the Holy Grail of modern football but is not enough on it's own. I just feel so vindicated in my pleas for Leicester to adapt a creative, pass-and-move strategy from back to front using pace and guile to make the vital breakthrough's because that is exactly how Spain won the European title and Fabrecas was immense. The guy is so positive and intelligent. He's like a master swordsman probing for a weakness and when he finds it he's ruthless in going for the kill. The support was wonderful right across the team, the fluidity of player interchanges a joy and then there was the speed and cunning of the Spanish strikers in their ability to make shallow but well-timed runs off the shoulders of defenders. There was so much to learn from that game. It should used as the definitive manual for coaching everywhere. Look at the Spanish corners. How often did they pump a hopeful cross into a penalty box full of giant opponents? Hardly ever. Instead they played short, low passes to areas just outside the penalty box which gave defenders difficult and unfamiliar decisions to make and threatened to disrupt their organisation. As for the constant moving off the ball, Spain gave a masterclass. They didn't just move. They moved with drive and belief into areas that always had the potential to hurt the opposition. Terrific. As one of the television pundits said, a victory for football.

There was lots of trouble, much more the euro 1996 over here, but the press dont report it because only english fans cause trouble you know.

Daggers Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 I mean unreported in england not elsewhere. I realise nothing was in the British media about it and so I wondered where you picked this information up from?

The dutch , Italians and Turks have as many problems as we do

There was loads of trouble at Euro 08 but because England not being there, they didn't smash it all over the headlines. So you think nothing happened when Poland met Germany ? I hate people like you, who think supporting your country is some kind of wicked crime.
Simi Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 I realise nothing was in the British media about it and so I wondered where you picked this information up from? Was dicussed on SUSD.
ASH17LCFC Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Was dicussed on SUSD. He'll still probally blame English fans for it though.
Floating Fox Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Didn't the croatian fans form a swastikka in the crowd as well?

purpleronnie Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 There are loads of videos on youtube showing fans fighting. It never fails to amaze me that english people get suckered into believing everything they read. And any small incident involving english fans is reported increasing this incorrect bad reputation of english fans. The reports I read were online and came from the Austrian press. No doubt if english fans were involved they would have been on the front and back pages of the tabloids. The facts are england take huge numbers when they travel and have a very small % that cause trouble, the english fans should be applauded by the english press for there good behaviour, but for some reson the english press continue the myth that english fans are badly behaved. Obviously I cant remember the exact pages of the reports I cut and pasted a couple from other forums. There were more than 100 arrests made in the Euro 2008 host city of Berne on Friday. Twenty people were arrested after a fight between French, Dutch and Swiss fans. A police officer confirmed two people were wounded in the clashes which involved at least forty people. Police also made 105 ''temporary arrests'' for ''minor offences'' after the match between the Netherlands and France, which the Dutch won 4-1. In Zurich, which hosted Italy v Romania, 84 people were treated for injuries throughout the day. One man was knocked into a river, while another was found unconscious with head injuries shortly before midnight after the 1-1 draw, police said. Pic's:-

Daggers Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 So for the actions of 50/100 wan kers , the whole country misses out on following thier nation in the showpiece of world football No, I am pretty sure that the country would miss out as a result of the team failing to qualify not as a result of the actions of some of the "fans" with their dumb**** IRA songs and their petty-minded xenophobic chanting spilling over into booze-fuelled destruction. Still no one can point me in the direction of sources regarding the huge amount of violence during the tournament?
purpleronnie Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 No, I am pretty sure that the country would miss out as a result of the team failing to qualify not as a result of the actions of some of the "fans" with their dumb**** IRA songs and their petty-minded xenophobic chanting spilling over into booze-fuelled destruction.Still no one can point me in the direction of sources regarding the huge amount of violence during the tournament? As I stated before its not widely reported as most countries arent interested in printing it, the videos on youtube and the pics above aren't enough eh? Keep on believing the myth if you want.
Head Honcho Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 The tournament was obviously diluted by the non appearance of England and until Spain beat England again they cannot call themselves the true champions of European international football
