AoWW Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 Has anybody come up with a fair idea how to select the squad ? Seems that ideas keep getting knocked but no one has come up with a good 1 yet I just think there needs to be some element of democracy. The current system of starting a list in the middle of the night, everyone notifying their 'friends' on msn and/or putting down their names for them, seems to me to smack of 'having to be in with the in crowd'. Don't see why there can't be a system of 'add your name to the list by xx time if you're interested' (and give a realistic timeframe so those that don't sit on FT 24/7 don't miss out). Then names draw out by davieG or someone impartial/trustworthy. (Enough for a team and some reserves.) If others then wanna go and watch with the hope of getting some time on the pitch then that's down to them. As an 'uninvolved' bystander it just seems to me that it's getting petty at the mo.
Finnegan Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 As an 'uninvolved' bystander it just seems to me that it's getting petty at the mo. I'm inclined to agree. But as an involved bystander, I also think it's just being taken far too seriously. We all know that at the end of the day it'll be the same people that will turn up and the same people that will end up getting a game. Every time we do this there's maybe two or three new people that turn up and there's always a couple of regulars that don't show. I mean all the fuss about playing Talking Balls and what happened? It rained and there were 14 of us. All except two (? Foxehateram and Flynny?) whom we'd played with before. Give it a few weeks to get organized and I guarantee come the day before the list of people who want to be involved is down to about 20 odd that have mostly all come before.
Darkzzz_ Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 I would be up for a game, but I understand that there are people who have played in previous games. That is fair enough. Either way I will take a drive over and support the boys... Especially against LTLFFC.
Bert Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 I know i missed the TB game, but due to family commitments, i couldn't be there else I would've have. If I'm honest, priority should go to them 15 first.

Dunno, like I just said, you know there'll be places, you know you'll probably get a game if you want to. . Just keep reading this thread.

Yeah understand your point , dont think its getting "petty" as in fairness i think most people would agree that democracy should be the way forward and at the minute all we are looking for is decent ideas .
Finnegan Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 Even if I didn't get a game, I'd still be there. You can have half of my play-time if whoever grabs this by the nads doesn't put you in.
Bert Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 You can have half of my play-time if whoever grabs this by the nads doesn't put you in. Cheers pal, but if I don't get put in, then don't limit your own time for me.
Simi Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 Don't care how this sounds to be honest... The only reason I've put my name down for these things constantly is because of the people that play in them. They make it what it is. If it wasn't for the people that turned up for the first match, none of this would even be being talked about now. If the interest became too big and it was down to a "draw", I probably wouldn't be arsed with playing.

JoeyB Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 Thing is i would come but i dont finish work till 12/1 on sat, dont get home till about 12:30/1 and normally by the time i get showered and changed etc and into Leicester it would be about 230/3 ish If it was closer, or on a sunday i could play.
Bert Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 It's going to be an evening kick off anyway, most likely around 5pm.
JoeyB Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 It's going to be an evening kick off anyway, most likely around 5pm. Thats good, if we have a decent venue i'm very interested, can play RB, CB, CM, Fwd (target man, ) GK, (if drunk) but my fitness levels are shite and so is my speed
Scow Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 At this rate we'll have to continue with my highly successful 6-a-side idea just so everyone can play.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 It's going to be an evening kick off anyway, most likely around 5pm. 27th Bertinho?
syston_fox Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 If we have a squad of 22 players who play 45 minutes each then so far hardly anyone will miss out will they? We had about 28 people interested and have already had a number pull out due to timing issues...

Bert Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 My take on things, which I'm repeating, is the squad that played Talking Balls get prioirty over everyone.
Tevez Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 I also agree about Priority for players and agree what Albert said aswell. If this is so called "Foxestalk FC" isn't this meant to be a squad ? If people would like to play then more than welcome to go on the reserves list and it's highly likely that people will drop out. It's got to be done and not be left hanging in the balance all the time.
