22 Man Squad For Pre-season Tour

Recommended Posts

Posted

By the weekend Nigel Pearson will decide his 22 man squad to take to Slovenia.

I have put down the 22 man squad i think he will take at the moment, taking into account no ins or outs this week.

I know a lot wont agree as there is a lot of youngsters left out but heres my current squad, back up players in brackets.

PS - As you see we have no cover at left back or right back so i have added a list of players who will have to make up the last 2 places.

Henderson

( Logan )

James Chambers Tunchev Morrison Mattock

( Worley ) ( Ngotty )

Max Gradel Clemence Oakley Dyer

( Adams ) ( King ) ( Weso ) ( Porter )

DJ Cambell Howard

( Fryatt ) ( Hayles )

Extras - Hayes, L Cox, Beswick, A Chambers, Kishishev, Dodds, Mckay, Hellings, Odhiambo, Sappleton, Rowe-Turner

That makes 9 strikers?

That's unlikely.

hmmm well near the end of the season we had 4 strikers on the pitch at once so i wouldnt put it past them :P

hopefully Pearsons got some sense :D

Mattock won't be there, he's with England I think. So I've got no idea who is going as a left back, maybe Rowe-Turner? If Tunchev goes then Kishishev will probably go as well. I think we may have another signing before the weekend who may go.

My guess at the minute would be:

Henderson, Logan

Kishishev, Tunchev, Morrison, N'Gotty, Worley, Chambers, Beswick (or new signing)

Gradel, Adams, Oakley, Clemence, Wesolowski, King, Dyer, Porter (if fit enough)

Howard, Fryatt, Campbell, Hayles, then one of Chambers, Sappleton, McKay.

EDIT: oh yeah forgot about Beswick, I assume he will go as left back if we don't sign one.

I was thinking about this as well. At the moment we must consider Cox and Beswick as the fullback backups. Also maybe Kish will get the nod ahead of King, and I don't know if Kisnorbo would be considered for the trip.

Don't understand why is must be only 22 to go. Make everybody including the youngsters feel like they are part of team I would have thought.

I read the extras as if they were going too.

Boy i'm good at maths.

Sorry to confuse you, 2 to be picked from the extras!!

CITY NEWS: PEARSON FACING HIS FIRST KEY CHOICES OVER SQUAD

BY BILL ANDERSON

http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/disp...;pNodeId=132401

10:30 - 07 July 2008

This week is decision time for new Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson as he judges who will be on his pre-season tour.

Players old and new in his squad will need to show up well in training sessions and in the first pre-season friendly at Hinckley United on Saturday to earn their places on the plane to Slovenia the following day when the work will become more intensive.

Inevitably, trimming the numbers to 22 from around 30 currently working through the first days of training will be the first guide to Pearson's thinking.

He said: "In some cases, it will be a tough decision. "By the end of the week I will have an idea of the 20 or 22 players I will be taking. "I have been very pleased with the way all the players have applied themselves and shown the right attitude. "There is a new regime and people want to do well, I am sure. "But, having said that, there is a realisation that there is a job to do this season and the players have shown the right response. "Unfortunately, places are limited and the onus is on the players to show what they can do although, because of the logistics, some will miss out."

New signings Michael Morrison, Nicky Adams and Lloyd Dyer look sure to be on the plane.

But Pearson added: "There might be three or four new players in by then, but I am not going to make changes for the sake of it. I have also got a responsibility to get the best out of those already here and I want to do that. "I think we still have a number of very good players here who have got a point to prove. I don't want to talk at any length about last season but there are going to be questions asked of us. You can't get away from the fact that people are waiting to see what our reaction is and how we are going to put the situation right."

Those left behind when the squad jet out will not be totally cast adrift because Pearson is mindful of how a long, hard season takes a toll on resources.

He said: "Even if they are part of the initial cut, that doesn't mean they are out the picture. They still have to show the right attitude and application because, in the course of a 46-game league season and cup ties, there will be opportunities, maybe when you least expect it. "My philosophy is the players have to be ready, for themselves as much as anybody. If they are not, well, that is up to them."

3 OR 4 NEW PLAYERS IN BY THE WEEKEND :o MAYBE

It would seem as though Howard is leaving so I can't see him being included on the trip.

The trip may be a little too soon for Tunchev depending on his fitness. He's had a lot of traveling to do and I think he's still in Bulgaria.

Is Oakley likely to stay???

probably not but while he's here we really have to plan for the team to be based around him an Clemence in midfield

I think its more of a bonding trip, so Tunchev should definitely be part of it. I'm still wondering why it have to be only 22 players to go.

yeah you'd think he'd stay behind with the physio plus I don't think he'll play for us again with his contract being up and the end of the coming season

I'm sure cost is the reason as someone else has said. But I really question the sense in being so tight on the finances on this one. It is a bonding trip and the morale of those who DON'T go will plummet. I think it would have been better to send around 28 players, particularly as it is likely that one or two who do go on the trip will probably attract bids and be off anyway over the summer meaning that in reality only 20 potential players will have gone on this trip.

The one thing I would do is order strict profesional conduct rules. There must be no repeat of la manga or anything like it. I would impose

1) no excessive drinking - 2 glass/2 pints maximum rule.

2) anyone detected having more to be be sent home.

3) anyone getting into trouble will be sent home and sacked - no 'ifs' or 'buts'. All players must exercise extreme judgement over the company they get into and immediately ditch it if they have any doubts. If they get it wrong and get into trouble, it is they that pay for their error of judgement not the club.

4) I would also encourage a curfew rule as well.

This is a WORK trip. Not a social pi$$ up. I go to conferences all the time - it is very frowned on to get drunk. I have never seen it happen to be honest. It might not be uncommon with footballers and sales staff and so on. But footballers have a lot at stake espewcially at leicester who are an ambitious club. We cannot afford to have players behaving like salesman on an overnight stay thinking they can get rat ar$ed/get laid on company expenses. I would absolutely lay down the law on this one.

Why even drink at all? They have since the middle of May to get steamin' every weekend..

Wrong, they was Steaming after Sheff Weds at home.

You get my point though. I don't keep tabs on football players drinking habits but it would be sensible to assume they wont be drinking when they go on a pre season tour?? They are supposed to be preparing for the season both physically and mentally.

The manager, and the players if they are professional enough to realise they shouldn't be drinking.
