Thracian Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?k...772008315104331So it Looks Like he Staying And with his starting place nailed on, no doubt. Ah well, that's football. I just hope he's a better player than the one I saw last season. What was it, 20 appearances, two assists and no goals.
jaybee Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?k...772008315104331So it Looks Like he Staying Give the bloke a chance, he was brought into a struggling team and his performaces were definately dragged down by those around him. He is a better player than Clemence and would have made a better Captain than Clemence. We are going to need a bit of experience to pull this new team together on and off the pitch, judge him after 10 games.
Daggers Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I'd like to see him doing more 'captain' stuff - pointing, shouting, marrying couples in international waters - that kind of thing.
Father Ted Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Last season, he was playing most of the games for us with painkillers with a foot injury, Holloway even said. This will be his season, he will be a very good captain and hopefully means: BYE BYE CLEMENCE!

Yup. We have two too similar players in central midfield (although Clemence is more of a holding ball player and more defense-orientated). With a healthy Oakley, I'm sure we'll get more options and more distribution up front. Clemence just couldn't do it and that was frustrating to everyone, I think even Stephen must've despaired and realized he can't initiate attacks and setting up strikers as much as Oakley does. But not that I expect us to beat everybody 5-4 now, with the defense exposed...
teblin Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Oakley has the ability if fit to do in this division, what izzet did in the championship the year we went up. But and the is a big but, he will have to be fully fit and properly motivated. If so he can be an awesome player at this level.

And I don't know that Clemence was any fitter than Oakley most of the time udging by the troubles he had.

And I don't know that Clemence was any fitter than Oakley most of the time udging by the troubles he had. As I said, Oakley was hampered by injury. Plus, Clemence's stats clearly indicate what I was saying before - that he's a holding midfielder with little drive forward. That's his usual role and last season, he had to play in a more attacking role because Holloway didn't know any better (and also because Hume was played on the wing or as a striker ). Actually, I don't mind Clemence staying as he could form a nice duo with Oakley in front of him, sort of a diamond 4-4-2.
Bert Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Thracian, give it a rest, both Clem and Oakley are better than your chosen ones to play in midfield, if your going on last season, then go on previous other seasons when they were brilliant as well. The current team in charge know a whole lot more than you about football. When Oakley signed, i remember some people saying that we couldn't believe someone like Matt Oakley has joined us. *Edit - I hope you've noted Fryatt's assist last night, and his 2 goals so far.
Flynny Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Rather have Clemence, and I don't exactly rate him either. Oakley had about 4 good games last season and when he isn't play well just totally disappears. I don't think this new midfield NEEDS either Oakley or Clemence, though one could/should certainly play a decent part, especially if we went for 5 in midfield with three AMs, which'd be interesting.

At Last!! Someone on my side and someone who sees sense!! Yes Bert, most Leicester fans are slagging all last seasons players off when yes they didnt peform but what a mess the clubs been in for years and who as peformed in that period week in week out.....no one!! Hopefully now we have a Manager who will get the blend right and if left alone by MM might actually do a good job and build for the future! Dont get me wrong, i like all fans slag players off but i call poor footballers like Hammond, Jarrett etc, not god players who are just out of sorts because of the state of the club/management etc. I am with you Bert on this, i think people like Matt Oakley will be quality next season and when he is, a lot of fans will be singing his praises again just like they did when he signed!

I'd agree with that, I can remember Izzet and Gary McCallister seeming to have so much more time on the ball than everybody else playing in that division, and I think Oakley can have the same impact for us this season.
