Simi Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 As seen in the Premier League, next season all teams will line up and shake hands before kick off. Respect is set to be the key word this coming season, as The Football League gives its support to the FA's latest initiative. From the big kick-off on August 9th the aim is to improve behaviour both on and around the pitch and, in particular, demonstrate a commitment towards greater respect for match officials. The Respect campaign is being supported throughout the game and has the backing of The Football League, the Premier League, the Football Conference, the PFA and the LMA and for you the fans the most noticeable aspect will come before each and every kick-off. The League has agreed to adopt the pre-match 'Fair Play' handshake procedure which has become standard at International, European and Premier League matches for a number of years. The 'Fair Play' handshake will be part of every single pre-match ceremony for all first team competitive matches - Football League, FA Cup, Carling Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Must say I think it is pretty pointless, will not change a thing. People will still cheat and have no respect until proper punishments are given out.
Collymore Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 yeah but it's the youngsters watching that I'm sure it's aimed at. it's probably filtered down from some government big brother legislation to reduce knife crime and increase hand shakes.
The Stig Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Must say I think it is pretty pointless, will not change a thing. People will still cheat and have no respect until proper punishments are given out. Spot on. It's like knife crime (although obviously no where near as serious). Nothing will be done until proper punishments are given, and things get stricter.
Ash Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I like the idea, Show's bit of respect! Pointless maybe but it wont do any harm will it?
Flynny Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 No reason not to I suppose? Unlikely to accomplish much, but why not?
Raj Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 Think they should go one step further and kiss each other on both cheeks(not bum cheeks!) ala continental stylee.....they could even give each other nice pretty bouquets of flowers!!!
MikeyT Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 Think they should go one step further and kiss each other on both cheeks(not bum cheeks!)ala continental stylee.....they could even give each other nice pretty bouquets of flowers!!! Yeah i like that, but lets go the full hog and have them wink at each other as well!
Asha Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 Yeah i like that, but lets go the full hog and have them wink at each other as well! Why not a mass orgy on the pitch?
ozleicester Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 Riverside drive in Perth is flooded and closed to traffic (ok...important to people here..but i think is fair to say "useless information" in general)
Phlashman Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 Think they should go one step further and kiss each other on both cheeks(not bum cheeks!)ala continental stylee.....they could even give each other nice pretty bouquets of flowers!!! Or a little pre-game waltz with each other? It a good idea but I doubt it makes any difference, the Premiership has had this for a few years and it doesn't seem to of increased the respect on the pitch.
Thracian Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 It's easy to knock but if it helps convey to kids that even professional sport is about comeraderie as well as competition, why not?
iancognito Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 Nothing wrong with it at all. In fact, anything that shows kids that cheating, or being a diving con-artist is bad has got to be a good thing. A bit of respect and fair play would make the game so much better. Better still, big signs on the way to the ground that say "Drogba, Ashley Cole and Emmanuelle Eboue are a disgrace to our game would hit home harder
Daggers Posted 18 July 2008 Posted 18 July 2008 Think they should go one step further and kiss each other on both cheeks(not bum cheeks!)ala continental stylee.....they could even give each other nice pretty bouquets of flowers!!! You'd so love that.
Raj Posted 19 July 2008 Posted 19 July 2008 You'd so love that. Like you said before Bro,L1 is gonna be so gay and camp next season......im actually looking forward to it!!!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 19 July 2008 Posted 19 July 2008 I can see Alan Sheehan being real mature and spitting on his hands when i becomes time to shake hands and then giggling like a little school girl
