Well... if we ship out lots of the old cr*p that we have here now, maybe this might not be so bad a signing... one for the future. :)

Has anyone heard anything about this guy? finished his trial with us?

There's a bit about him in The Sporting Blue. He's been on trial with us this week, he was man of the match in the final of The Milk Cup and Beaglehole rates him.

Apparently we are keen on Lowry and Taggart has been keeping an eye on him. And we will be making a move before the transfer deadline ends.

Town, Norwich, QPR and Leicester Eyeing Northern Irish Youngster

Wednesday 12 Nov 2008 11:44:20 by Phil

Town are one of a number of clubs who have been keeping an eye on youngster Philip Lowry, according to reports in Northern Ireland. The 19-year-old midfielder, currently playing with Institute in the Irish Premier League, has been tipped for a big future by Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington.

Lowry is said to have been watched by the Blues, QPR, Norwich City and Leicester City this season, the latter pair having already taken him on trial. A move to an English club appears to be only a matter of time.

Worthington says he is well aware of Lowry’s potential: "I know Philip from the [Northern Ireland] Milk Cup squad and he certainly is one for the future.

"Steve Beaglehole has had him in quite a few U21 squads and at the minute we should let him develop there.

"We have quite a few players in that position at the minute, but if an opportunity becomes available then we know where Philip is."

Central midfielder Lowry joined Institute from home town club Limvady ahead of the 2007/08 season and quickly became a first team regular.

I can't understand why we haven't signed this lad yet given that we've had him on trial, he impressed, Taggart loves him, Beaglehole loves him and his club anticipated a bid from us just before the transfer window closed.

Perhaps Mandaric is fed up of paying money for players only to have them sit in our accademy side? :dunno:

This doesn't strike me as a player everyone's confident will come straight into our league sides. The Northern Irish league is absolutely diabolical, if he was really League One quality he'd be tearing it apart so much there'd be far wider interest in him than a series of trials, I'm sure.

After the likes of Sappleton and Hayes and whoever, it's hardly surprising if Mandaric is becoming cynical about paying money for "future prospects."
