Cobbo Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 Joint Statement Issued By Leicester City And Leicester Tigers A joint statement released today (Thursday) by Leicester City and Leicester Tigers reads as follows: "Both clubs have spent the past six months in exhaustive and lengthy negotiations regarding Leicester Tigers' move to the Walkers Stadium. "These have been extremely productive and a huge amount of work and agreement has been achieved in a short timeframe. "Unfortunately, due to a small number of issues remaining unresolved we wish to make it clear that the Tigers will not be in a position to play their home fixtures out of the Walkers Stadium from the start of the 2005-06 season. "Instead, it is now envisaged that Tigers will be playing home games in the stadium from the 2006-07 season. "In the coming months discussions will continue with the footballing and rugby authorities to reach agreement on a small number of unresolved issues. "Both organisations reaffirm their belief that the proposed joint venture is the best way forward for City and the Tigers." Tigers chairman, Peter Tom, said: "We have an excellent working relationship with Leicester City and the majority of issues involving the two clubs playing at one stadium have been resolved. "However, we are still in discussions with the Football and Rugby authorities regarding possible fixture clashes, and whilst Leicester City and ourselves have agreed how this should be managed, at present further negotiations with both authorities are required." Tigers take on Toulouse in the semi-final of the Heineken Cup on Sunday, April 24 (3.30pm) in a game to be played at Walkers Stadium. Leicester City chief executive, Tim Davies, added: "This is an ideal opportunity for Tigers supporters to see and use the magnificent facilities at the stadium and to familiarise themselves with the ground. That would be fine if I were, but rugby players in general (me included) are no more homosexual that any other segment of the population.

I think that was said by a lot of people at the time as well. I'm personally glad its not happening as quickly, and the cash-injection that we're supposedly going to get will probably be more useful next year than this year anyway as we're getting the parachute payment still this year. My only concern now is the Derby match this season that'll be played two days after the Rugby match at the Walkers. It will probably be the most important game of what's left of the season as far as fans are concerned, especially seeing as we didn't win against Forest. And the pitch will no doubt be atrocious because its not this 'special pitch' or whatever, just the normal one.

If the match has been booked for the dates then LCFC should be confident of having the pitch in a quality state ready for the football. If not they only have themselves to blame and wont do us any good for when tigers do set up shop with us!!
