Simi Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 For the first time in a while, we seem to have competition for places throughout the spine of the team. Based on what I've seen during pre-season and the start of this season, I'd say this... Centre halves Hobbs and Tunchev. Hobbs was very impressive last night. Strong in the tackle and he seemed very confident playing the ball out of defence and wasn't afriad to run with it when he had some space. He's tall as well which is obviously an asset. Tunchev looked solid against MK Dons, apart from his 'grabbing approach' towards their strikers I thought he was very strong. In time when he settles in I reckon he'll only improve. Morrison is unfortunate because lately he has improved, but I reckon he provides good competition. Pearson seems to like him a lot and as Fez has suggested, he sees him as a vocal point for the team to build around. I still think he'll be ahead of Hobbs, but I wouldn't choose him. Centre midfield Oakley and King. I think this worked well against MK and would like to see it have a chance to progress. King last night made things happen and wasn't afriad to have a go when others were, such as Weso. Both can play the screening role well enough and both seem to be able to get forward and get in the box which is needed when we're going to have Gradel getting balls across. Weso and Kish will again provide strong competition, but they're going to have to show more to get ahead of King and Oakley. Strikers Howard and Fryatt. Howard seems to be improving game by game and it would be harsh to drop Fryatt after scoring two in the first game. Both looked to have worked hard during pre-season and lost a bit of weight between them. My only worry is the communication between the two and whether they will compliment each other. Last night Dickov showed he can make an impact as a sub and did the things we've been expecting of Campbell for so long. If the abuse to Howard continues, the fans will probably make their own decsion that Fryatt and Dickov will work better, but I don't see that myself. Campbell now looks a lost cause who's confidence is very low, defintley last in line now. What are your partnerships then?
Mikey Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 At the moment, Hobbs and Tunchev, Oakley and King, and Fryatt and Howard.
dandannieldanok Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Hobbs and Morrison Oakley and King Fryatt and Dickov
Stevosevic Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Tunchev and Morrison Oakley and King Howard and Fryatt
mancunianfox Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Gradel & Gilbert Morrison & Hobbs Oakley & Wesolowski Fryatt & Dickov
billyfox1 Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Hobbs and Tunchev, Oakley and Weso, Fryatt/Howard/Dickov. (still undecided)
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 centre halves - tunchev and hobbs (from what little i've seen of him) but morrison has impressed midfield - oakley and king - seems to be favourites generally forwards - Fryatt (think he will do well this season) and Howard (looks different player than last season) BUT dickov must feature, he looks real class. perhaps pearson will select pairings to suit individual opposing teams, or rotate during games by substituting, can't ignore levi i agree reluctantly that DJ has failed to prove himself, can't afford to waste anymore time
FleckneyFox Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 I didnt think Weso and Kish were that bad last night
lildave3 Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Same as Ched's. Was very impressed with Hobbs last night, think him and Tunchev can form a good partnership and Morrison is a decent enough back up. Oakley is a must starter, and I think King is the best choice to go alongside him. King has that bit of creativity in him whereas Kish/Weso don't. And I don't think Dickov and Fryatt would work up front. Fryatt has started well and must stay in the team while he's doing well, and Howard is that target man figure that we could do with.
davieG Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 If you have Dickov & Fryatt up front then you need Martin in goal and not Henderson as he's continues to hoof the ball up whenever he can.
Joe. Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 I'd be very happy to see the partnerships listed above stay together. We now have three extremely competitive and competent centre backs fighting for their places and I'd be happy to see any of them start on Saturday. Oakley as captain and experienced central midfielder should start. He played well on Saurday and I expect another good performance together with King again.

I've had a lot of faith in Campbell with his pace and movement but he's subject to the same analysis as Fryatt when he was failing to score in that it's hard to make a case for him and the more especially if he's not making goals. Fryatt has clearly knuckled down to lose some weight, gain some sharpness and to pose Pearson a problem and there's no question he deserves his starting place as things stand and I'm really pleased for him.
ASH17LCFC Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Hobbs and Tunchev Oakley and Clemence Fryatt and Dickov
Corky Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Hobbs and Tunchev (though that's harsh on Morrison) Oakley and Weso Howard and Fryatt

I'd say that was one of your fairer assesments Thrac. I want it to work out for Campbell, but it's not looking like it's going to at the moment. Fans favourite Fryatt will be with Dickov in the rankings of the pecking order and Howard has knuckled down and in my view is Pearson's favourite, especially after he got the captaincy last night.
C-man Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Morrison and Tunchev - Tunchev was impressive against MK Dons and his simple make the easy pass strategy was a contributing factor to the style of our football in the first half on Saturday. Personally I thought that Morrison was the better of the two last night. And although Hobbs did play very well last night I just can't remember Morrison putting a foot wrong and won almost everything in the air, particularly towards the end. Oakley and King - I think Oakley should be outstanding in this division and I think he'll prove himself to us this season. Andy King definitely deserves his chance after a great pre-season and two positive performances to begin the season. I thought he was particularly good last night when he came on. Fryatt and Howard - Fryatt's two goals will give him great confidence and Howard is beginning to turn things round. I thought he was exceptional last night and was good against MK Dons despite how many people criticised him.
orod Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Morrison & Tunchev Oakley & Weso Fryatt & Howard (Fryatt and Dickov once Dickovs got a few appearances under his belt) its not that it would be harsh to drop Fryatt, it would be stupid - he was great against MK Dons
Raj Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Best partnership is Cheese and Onion Crisp Sandwiches with milk. Strikerwise i'd go for anyone WITHOUT STEVE HOWARD!!!!!
