Gradel Extends City Stay

Posted on: Thu 14 Aug 2008

Winger Max Gradel has today extended his Leicester City contract by a further year.

The 20-year-old, who initially signed a new three-year deal towards the end of last term, will now remain at the Walkers Stadium until 2012.

Ivory Coast born-Gradel spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, totting up 34 starts and scoring 10 goals.

He has since returned to the Foxes and has already made an impression on the new management team.

Gradel has started both of City's first two games against MK Dons and Stockport County.

Manager Nigel Pearson said: "Max is a promising young player who has done very well for us since I arrived at the club.

"We are not getting carried away because he is a young boy and it is our job to keep his feet on the ground but at the same time we must give him the confidence and assurance that if he keeps doing well then he will play."

Thats really great news. Looks like certainly being one of our most important players for this season.

Good luck to the lad.

Very good news. Now the coaches and management need to help him work on his final ball and we'll have a hell of a player.

He reminds me very much of a lower league Cristiano Ronaldo after he first joined Man U, with a load of tricks, pace, beating players for fun, but doing all that without always delivering an end product. If he can add that to his game, he will play at the highest level.

I don't think he has signed a four year deal. He has just extended it i think!

Same difference really.

I know the reasoning behind this. He agreed to a 3 year deal when he was still very much under-rated by this club. Since his return from Bournemouth, he's shown everyone how good he really is here and they've stumped up more cash to make sure we keep him here.

He deserves it, i'd have given him a 10 year deal on £50,000 IMO.

Good on the lad for signing a new deal but surely this is about more money seeing as though he could well be a first team regular this season and until he finally does leave. Not the fact he wants to be here in four years time.

Exactly, but that was my worry. He'd agreed a 3 year deal on probably very modest wages in terms of first team footballers. So this is to get him in line with what his ability and role deserves.

Good news, contracts don't really mean anything these days though.

Probably been done to put him on the same salary as players like Wesolowski. Also because he has been attracting interest from other clubs, hopefully keep them away for a season or two.

All these fans getting excited about an attacking player. Happy days are here again! :D

Mind you - a four-year contract! Is it the cynic in me but is MM making sure any bid will have to be even more substantial?

How much did he pay for the club? :D:D

He may make mistakes but he's nobodies fool.
