The People's Hero Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 All these fans getting excited about an attacking player. Happy days are here again! Mind you - a four-year contract! Is it the cynic in me but is MM making sure any bid will have to be even more substantial? How much did he pay for the club? He may make mistakes but he's nobodies fool. You have a cynical side?
Thracian Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Great news, though like Big Nige said we shouldn't get carried away. He's only played 1 league game for us. That's cos h played all last season at Bournemouth!
Ric Flair Posted 14 August 2008 Author Posted 14 August 2008 I'm waiting for his first real explosive performance for us, like he did for Bournemouth and watch the excitement unfold throughout Leicester.
andyh1884 Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Excellent news. He'll need the extra wedge to pay for his nice new apartment
Thracian Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 I'm waiting for his first real explosive performance for us, like he did for Bournemouth and watch the excitement unfold throughout Leicester. He's the best all round winger I've seen at Leicester and that includes some pretty good players going back to the 50's. People like Guppy, Glover, Stringfellow, Derek Hogg and Howard Riley. I know it's a claim that will get folk going. And, all had their strengths. Gradel always showed great promise but for whatever reasons he's matured beyond belief these last 12 months and now seems to revel in and even relish all aspects of the game, even defensive duties. A real star in the making to my mind and I don't use the term lightly.

Not only did they extend his contract to a new 3 year contract at the end of last season they have given him a new 4 year contract at the beginning of this season . Translation = 2 wages rises in a matter of a few months. Now thats quite unusual behavior for a club UNLESS of course he is , as you say one of the most promising players to come out of the club for a long long time.. But i think how they have handled him and his contract speaks volumes.
Koke Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 This is good news. And I trust Nigel to develop him correctly and not **** him up as I suspect our previous regimes would have done.

His performances last season at the same level we are now in, is the source of some of what Thracian is basing this on and I have to agree with him. The lad is special, fingers crossed it works out for him.
Bryn Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Awesome news, really good. If he does get poached we'll be getting a good price. And hopefully we'll keep him.

For him in many ways its good we got relegated - plenty of first team exposure, in a relatively big team ( compared to bournmouth) in front of decent crowds giving him the time and space to develope

Ah, but Thracian decided that it was time to ship Worthington out after 1 game which he didn't see. Two games is ample enough time to declare him the best all round winger he's seen at Leicester!
sdb Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 excellent. just as long as he doesn't get into some sort of comfort zone, and there's no horrible clauses in his new contract...

bigneville Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Quality news. Lets just hope he keeps developing at this rate.

Two matches where we have won both, and he played a part, quite a big part. I would definitely rather have him in my team than against us.
C-man Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 We'll see. Apart from snippets here and there I didn't see Weller or Glover, but I'm pretty sure that saying Gradel is better than them after 2 games is pretty harsh conidering they were two of the finest wingers and attacking players of their era!

If you posted that tiny disclaimer a tiny bit more often this would be a calmer but marginally less interesting place.

People like Guppy, Glover, Stringfellow, Derek Hogg and Howard Riley. All respect to Gradel, but he can't be called better than Glover and Weller etc. yet. For a start he's played just two games, whereas Glover, Weller and the like were here for years. Also, then, we weren't in League One. Would Gradel shine now in the Premiership? Gradel's magic and all, but he's not quite a Leicester legend like the others are yet...not after this short amount of time.
Babylon Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Thracian is becoming the best all round wind up merchant. TPH has lost his crown.
