Listened to some of it...oh dear. I thought after all these years Noel would have moved on from all the beatles references but they pop up frequently, its all a little sad and almost desperate. Its all so bland and MOR. Lets face it they we're dated even when they began but it was done with real attitude and somehow they made it sound fresh and exciting but now Noels 40 and a multi millionaire it all sounds very Blah!

I'm on the understanding this took Liam 9 Years to write, excellent song and a great tribute to Lennon

I keep trying to sing "Day in the Life" during it (stolen piano bit!)... but it is a good tune!

My cousins girlfriend is the events manager at Wembley Stadium.

I have 2 tickets for Saturday 11th July, to see Oasis, Kasabian and the Enemy.

Sweet.

I know they are the antithesis now to innovation, new ideas, freshness, vibrancy and pure vitality but I think their latest offering is decent enough.

There are a few tracks I really enjoy.

One thing you can say about Oasis is that you know an Oasis track from the first note. As soon as it starts, it can't possibly be any of the bands they rip off/were influenced by and it certainly isn't anyone trying to sound like Oasis. Oasis is Oasis is Oasis. Not only that, but their retiscence to change is refreshing I think in a world where the likes of Madonna, Charlotte Church et al reinvent themselves every 5 minutes.

The problem for Oasis is that the scene has died so the context is gone.

Many bands after a few great albums might have split and gone solo or just exploded through fights, drugs or a fatality in the group. Oasis were at one point VITAL and I for one think they can be forgiven for continuing to do what they do best. Why should they change to please the Indie boys or the out-and-out popster? Why should they try to please the critics? They've had the critical acclaim, they've sold out huge venues, they were HUGE... sod it, let them indulge themselves.

And I'm going to enjoy it along the way.

I think that's what winds up a lot of people, but you're right in that if the template remains popular with the fans then why should they change it? It's not as if they're the only band that stick to a tried and tested formula.

Generally I think people have less of a problem with the band itself than the way some sections of the media and their fanbase talk about them, and seem to be more interested in their cultural significance than the music. It would be hard to criticise someone for genuinely enjoying the records, but it's easy to be irked by someone that goes on about them being the biggest band in Britain - it's a bit too much like talking to a Man Utd fan. If it were all about record sales and concert tickets sold we'd all be listening to Keane and Elton John and desperately trying to get hold of tickets for Neil Diamond

True.

But as is the way with this country - the backlash against what you've identified has gone too far.

At the end of the day, Oasis aren't trying to change the world or guarantee world peace or cure famine... they don't have high and mighty ideas like that, they actually realise they are just musicians. Bono would do well to take notice. Sure, Thom Yorke is fantastic but sometimes you feel he deliberately alienates, subverts and indulges in plenty of mock-misunderstood posing. Half the people with a poster of Thom Yorke in their bedroom looking misunderstood spend half their time secretly listening to DEFINITELY MAYBE anyway!

I just think it's refreshing to find a band which is unpretentious. I like plenty of pretentious bands but Oasis just are what they are...

I'm determined to really enjoy the most recent album.

God I wish Blur would get back together - I enjoyed some of Coxon and Albarn's work since they've been apart... they must have some ideas between them now.. they worked off each other well.

Leave it James. Britpop is gone.

Get back to your lo-fi stuff.

By the way, Seasick Steve is ace.
