ASH17LCFC Posted 1 October 2008 Author Posted 1 October 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7645997.stm Wonderwall didn't get to number 1 and i'm pretty sure thats still played. Oasis don't need number ones anymore.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 listening to it on myspace, altho i have been listening to songs on youtube all week.....it is very very superbly marvelous. Some great songs on there. Normally any album takes a few listens to settle, but this one seemed to do it in just one. Love 'I'm Outta Time'... 'Shock of the Lightening' is tasty too.......tunes!
Jack Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7645997.stm Number 1's don't mean as much now as they did say 10 years ago.
Lillehamring Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 it came on the radio the other day and i listened to it again, let it not be said i won't give something a fair go - and i sat there for three minutes waiting for something to happen, sadly nothing, no change or movement, a musical flatline... i can understand how it would sound good live, in fact, to be honest, it actually sounds like they're just having a jam... but it left me so cold, musically, especially after they played it straight after 'god save the queen' by the sex pistol, which really showed how dirty vocals and dynamic guitars should be done, and sounding as fresh as a daisy, not bad for 30 odd years old, infinately more memorable than anything oasis have done for several albums, i'm afraid.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 October 2008 Posted 1 October 2008 I listened to 'Definitely Maybe' this morning for probably the first time in about 7 years. It was a bit weird actually, because although on one level it reminded me why I don't listen to Oasis anymore, at the same time it also reminded me why I found it exciting when it came out. In summary: There's a time and a place for everything
Babylon Posted 2 October 2008 Posted 2 October 2008 it came on the radio the other day and i listened to it again, let it not be said i won't give something a fair go - and i sat there for three minutes waiting for something to happen, sadly nothing, no change or movement, a musical flatline...i can understand how it would sound good live, in fact, to be honest, it actually sounds like they're just having a jam... but it left me so cold, musically, especially after they played it straight after 'god save the queen' by the sex pistol, which really showed how dirty vocals and dynamic guitars should be done, and sounding as fresh as a daisy, not bad for 30 odd years old, infinately more memorable than anything oasis have done for several albums, i'm afraid. How about you are fair and compare things realistically, like comparing it with one of oasis's first songs. Do you think the sex pistols would be churning out ground breaking music after 7/8 albums?
ASH17LCFC Posted 2 October 2008 Author Posted 2 October 2008 Sex Pistols one album Liver Forever or God save the queen ? Hmmmmmmm, Oasis new album is good and thats not me just saying it because i think their better then everyone. Its not like their typical sing - along album.
Jack Posted 2 October 2008 Posted 2 October 2008 Im a big fan of Oasis and before I listened to this I expected it to be utter shite but I have been listening to it quite a lot over about the past week and it is quality stuff.
Darkzzz_ Posted 2 October 2008 Posted 2 October 2008 I am a huge Oasis fan as well and I am the opposite at the moment, I just can't get into it. Maybe a few more listens and I will like it. We will see.
hairy Posted 3 October 2008 Posted 3 October 2008 I am not a huge Oasis fan but gave the first few tracks of the album a listen last night and I must admit I was impressed. Love the dirty production.
The Reverend Posted 3 October 2008 Posted 3 October 2008 Bag it up is the best track I reckon. My thoughts exactly, love that track. That really is excellent.
Joe. Posted 3 October 2008 Posted 3 October 2008 My thoughts exactly, love that track. That really is excellent. Yeah, the same with me. I think I commented in my first post how I thought it was the best track on there, it's a great opener.
Lillehamring Posted 3 October 2008 Posted 3 October 2008 How about you are fair and compare things realistically, like comparing it with one of oasis's first songs. Do you think the sex pistols would be churning out ground breaking music after 7/8 albums? ok, oasis are better than the verve... why is comparing two bands who play(ed) simple guitar based music unfair, especially as the usual (implausible) comparison for oasis is the beatles; christ, why don't you just sticky a list of rules for criticism and posting fairness... the 10 commandments of indifference oasis are boring now, god knows how bland their stuff will sound in thirty years...
Babylon Posted 3 October 2008 Posted 3 October 2008 oasis are boring now So is your constant sniping and posting about a band you don't like. Bit pathetic really. Do you spend the rest of your day on forest forums telling them how rubbish they are now compared to how they use to be?
Lillehamring Posted 4 October 2008 Posted 4 October 2008 So is your constant sniping and posting about a band you don't like. Bit pathetic really. Do you spend the rest of your day on forest forums telling them how rubbish they are now compared to how they use to be? every post i've put in this thread has been considered and backed up, if you really can't understand that debate needs two sides, and that i am offering an alternate viewpoint, then why do you even bother coming on here... i have made some decent points and expressed my opinion wiyh tongue in cheek at times, with great seriousness and respect at others, how is that pathetic... pathetic is sulking like a baby cause someone dares to have a different opinon to you. if i hadn't posted in this thread it would have died weeks ago, but it has stayed alive and no doubt many have enjoyed reading and posting in it, despite you making pointless whiny digs whenever i post something contradictiory....
ASH17LCFC Posted 6 October 2008 Author Posted 6 October 2008 End of the day, Oasis are legends and your bitter. Like Oasis biggest band since The Beatles ? Yes.
Corky Posted 6 October 2008 Posted 6 October 2008 End of the day, Oasis are legends and your bitter.Like Oasis biggest band since The Beatles ? Yes. They are a very good, successful band yes, but the best since the Beatles? That's up for debate.
purpleronnie Posted 6 October 2008 Posted 6 October 2008 Bag it up is the best track I reckon. A cover version of the Geri Halliwell song? I new Oasis were desperate but thats ridiculous. Sexy video, terrible song.
Lillehamring Posted 6 October 2008 Posted 6 October 2008 They are a very good, successful band yes, but the best since the Beatles? That's up for debate. i wouldn't waste my breath in that debate - fair play to those who love oasis, but i suspect some of you younger guys (and older ones ) would benefit from a good session on last fm - honest, i'm not being patronising, if those of you who are so passionate about oasis, i'm sure there are lots of bands that will truly blow your mind... even now i'm discovering bands that make me realise how many great bands exist that don't have multi-million pound advertising budgets...
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 7 October 2008 Posted 7 October 2008 anyone heard the bonus disc....??? Has a Chemical Brothers remix of Falling Down and Jagz Kooner remixes of The Turning and The Shock of the Lightning, as well Oasis tunes Lord Dont Slow Me Down, and some ones I assume didnt quite make it onto the album 'Boys With the Blues' and 'I Believe in All' and some alternative versions..... anyways its decent, esp 'I Believe in All' - bit Coralesque I thought......
lildave3 Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Anyone watching them on MTV live from Wembley? I recorded it, just about to start watching now Buzzcocks has done. Reckon it'll be pretty good.
Simi Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Anyone watching them on MTV live from Wembley? I recorded it, just about to start watching now Buzzcocks has done. Reckon it'll be pretty good. It's brilliant.
