Ultra Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Any 0-0 in this league is a disappointment - and this one particularly so. The jury is still out on whether the Howard-Fryatt partnership is strong enough for promotion. But at least we still have an average of two points a game, and if we can stick around that mark we will do OK.
Vardinhio Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 I'm happy with that. A win against Tranmere and it's a really good start to the season. We were never going to win every game and look at Leeds losing today. A good draw away from home against a top half side in this league in my opinion.
purpleronnie Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Leeds and forest lost, just need derby to lose now.
Jonezy Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Rome wasn't built in a day. We have 4 years of crap mentality to get rid off. Nigel's approach is apparently to keep it tight at the back, which has given us 3 clean sheets on the bounce. Their goalkeeper got MOM at the stadium, so at least we got chances. Let the team get some more time together and we will start winning games like this. We'll only get better. I'm not too worried about a sligthly srappy 0-0 at Stockport.
NorthernFox Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 3 games played in total and still to concede a goal gives a good base for what is to come. I am with the others posters already stating a win against Tranmere and that will keep us above 2 pts per game.

Sounds like our defence had a storming game, long may it continue. Can't wait for the ratings from the folks who went to the game.

In other words - the same approach that served us so well during those 4 years. Hopefully, he will learn, unlike his predecessors, that you don't win matches without scoring goals...
crisp monster Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 very pleased with the start we've made 3 clean sheets, 4 points and a passage through to the next round of the cup the goals for is a problem but let Nigel get on with his job at least we're competing well in a league where you've got to stand up for yourself i'm off to Barcelona (or near) for 2 weeks so roar the boys home v Tranmere,Fulham and Cheltnham for me
Matt Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Alot of positives, but one big negative - Strikers. We scored 2 last Saturday but really could have scored alot more with a Striker rather than so called 'strikers', We scored 1 on Tuesday but again could have scored more really. We need a decent striker, or our current ones rapidly need to work on their aiming and striking. As I said in chat and I can't comment too much as I wasn't there but Dickov, Everyone knows my opinion of him and no doubt I have a bias opinion on him, However I really don't think he that good anymore he has had 3 x 20/30 minute appearance and fair enough he's not scored but he just IMO hasn't done much for us so far, obviously i'll give him time, I have to give him time, I can't do anything about it but that just my view on him after 3 games (Of which 2 i've seen). Alot of positives as said, but one big worry.
Flynny Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Like I said in the prematch thread, it's our toughest game this month. A draw with a good performance is decent enough. I think we'll go on to beat Tranmere and Cheltenham and we'll be sitting pretty. Have faith guys. I agree with that. Its going to be easy to get overly frustrated because of the names of the teams in this division and the expectancy that we'll rip it up. I'm confident we'll be promoted, ideally defeating Leeds in a playoff final () but just because we don't beat a team that, with respect, is nowhere near the size of ours (we're massive, bigger than Real Madrid, etc) we don't need to start panicking.

I don't think you can accuse him of being negative throwing an extra striker on to win the match from a situation where it was heading for a draw. Our previous managers would probably have shut up shop for the point away from home!
Darkzzz_ Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 It was very difficult to listen to that. Especially the amount of chances, but Hey.... Let's look forward. 4 PTS from a possible 6. Come on City!!

Basingstoke Fox Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Leeds and forest lost, just need derby to lose now. 1-0 to Bristol City  their so crap i almost feel sorry for them. Then they are a league above us
eye666 Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 It was an alright match. First half not much happened. Second half was more open and we should have won by at least two. Thought King played well, defence looked good. Henderson was dodgy though - Fon Williams for Stockport looked like a good keeper, much more solid than Hendo who came out and flapped twice. Oakley was again pretty poor. Gradel couldn't get into the game. Dyer had flashes of good play but no end product, and really should have scored his opportunity. I want to see Adams get a game judging on his pre-season, and think Kish should get a run-out as Oakley seems to be struggling to control the midfield. Overall we looked alright but still think we could do with a couple of players - keeper and possibly a battling centre-mid of the Lennon mold. 4 points isn't a bad start to the season, just got to feed the strikers and hit the back of the net. Bring on Tranmere!
Durnerz Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Unlucky with the chances we created but we will have days like that. Anyone criticising the front pairing needs to have a look at who's bagged the goals in the two matches previous. As one poster said, Rome wasn't built in a day, we will have tests of character in this tough league, you just have to look at Leeds's result today to see how unpredictable this division can be, anyone under the illusion that we will walk it after two games evidence against promoted sides needs to look at the bigger picture. Three clean sheets, a first home win and no losses away from home thus far. Keep it up, the chances are being created and will be taken.
Ozwin Posted 16 August 2008 Posted 16 August 2008 Frustrating but a point is a point. I reckon on another day we'd have scored 4 or 5 but their keeper sounded great and they had men behind the ball at all times. We created lots which is comforting though.
