Stockport Post Match

I think people are being a little harsh on Fryatt and Dyer for missing the chances, the reason that we ran the roost in the second half was because Dyer pushed on intelligently and effectively, Fryatt worked very hard, again with effect, and Howard did his link-work well. I would like to see Leicester stick with the core of this time for a bit now as, in the past, we have played like 11 individuals rather than as a team with units working effectively together. I could see that happening today and has left me feeling postive for the first time in several years. Last year countless teams with less esteemed individuals did a number on us because they were more effective as a team e.g. Hull City. I just hope Milan leaves Pearson alone in order to achieve this.

Shit atmosphere.

Shit result on the whole.

If only Dyer had took a touch >_<

Oakley had a mare, & Gradel was getting frustrated by Dickov on the right isn't the most inspired substitution.

King & Howard, fantastic. I am harsh on Howard at times but he did his job today.

Howard & Fryatt starting to make a decent partnership, will be good when they have a better understanding of each other.

Nice to meet quite a few off here for the first time today.

One word to sum up the day, frustrating.

I thought the police presence was excessive, two mounted cops outside and how many did the have separating the LCFC fans down the left side from a virtually empty stand.

Two mounted coppers outside is hardly the Charging of the Light Brigade - considering they are going to have two massive fixtures this season, and that their yard-stick last season was Leeds scum, I thought they were OK. I didn't see any over the top policing, got complimented on my lusty singing voice and they helped me find the pub...so I reckon they were nice enough.

The stewards were never going to let us stand all match and moved us on in a friendly fashion despite a bit of ribbing - it was just a shame they put us with a huge moaning twat who I ended up having to remonstrate with in a forthright fashion

No one kicked up that we stood at the back for the second half.

Whatever impression you got on the radio Tunchev is no left-back, their goalkeeper wasn't anywhere near man of the match cos his fingertip save from Fryatt was his only notable stop and if we're going to win promotion we'll need to win away as well as at home. The idea of win at home, draw away, is always flawed and, to be honest, I think Howard made just as much effort to win today as he has done at home.

The chances were there but either we simply didn't hit the target or we made life too easy for their goalkeeper. But pressure? Different League to last season so there's plenty of reason to be encouraged and plenty of hope for improvement. Especially if we start using Porter more, before we lose him too, like Sheehan.

i have to disagree with you Thrac over their keeper who I thought made a string of good saves - the point is that class finishers wouldn't have given him the chance to make them. and that is exactly what we need

I also thought that Pearson got his subs wrong today - I would have swapped Levi for Gradel and Dickov for Howard - Dickov was wasted down the right

5 seconds towards the end I hear "davieG" :D

That was LD3. :D

As has been said, frustrating day. Howard was probably our best player, won literally everything in the air and but for a finish from Fryatt would have helped us win the game.

Dyer missed a great chance as well as did several others.

Train on the way back probably a highlight. Banter with Burnley/Bury fans at Chesterfield and then singing the Max Gradel song for about 20 minutes. Then some old boys joining in "THERE'S ONLY ONE ARTHUR ROWLEY". Good laugh.

Gutted not to come away with a win still.

I think the reason we created more in the last 20 minutes or so was because we took Gradel off. That's not to denigrate him but it meant we varied our play more and there was a noticeable increase in the play down the middle involving both Oakley and more so King, this led to more passing to the feet of Fryatt and Howard from midfield with Dyer supporting.

We seem to already have got into a 'feed it to Gradel' mind set I would like to see much more variation in our play using both wingers and through the mid-field this will hopefully negate the exceessive marking of Gradel and take some of the pressure off him.

Having Gradel on made them take two men out to him everytime though, if we'd of had some sense we could have used that to our advantage and work the ball better.

Howard was having a great game, there is no way that man should have even been considered for substitution.

I have to agree. Dyer has proven to me in the early stages that he is also a threat.

If we utilise both wings, we will become a lot less predictable and efficient.

Having watched both games so far I really think that we have sthg in the making here - we look a very well organised side who will concede very few goals. By no means the finished article yet but let's hold onto to the fact that it is nearly a complete new team and still very early days.

Those of you who remember Jock Wallace might recognise some similarities with many young hungry fit players who have a very visible energy.

We dominated so much today and cannot quite believe we didnt win it, but Stockport looked a decent outfit, so the point will just have to do today. Lots of positives though -Tunchev was awesome although definitely not a left back replacement Morrison looks to be a real prospect and Hobbs has a presence about him. Mom was a close call between Gilbert and King today - I particulalry like the partnership of Gilbert and Gradel(let's not be too harsh on his petulance today). Lloyd Dyer was all over the park today and with a bit more luck Matty could have had a hatful. Stay off Howards back and he will produce.

Someone got dragged out from behind me on the back few rows and another guy ended up with a bloody nose - now I can't explain why it happened but everything seemed to be going well when a few coppers dived in to drag some one out creating a fracas :dunno: .

As for the mounted police I really do not see any justification for their presence, as a law abiding person with a clear conscience I find the excessive presence intimidating not comforting.

I don't disagree in fact it proves my point, it seems the only way to stop them 'feeding Gradel' was to take him off.

First half wasn't very good at all, Gradel was marked out the game, Dyer was too narrow and the passing was poor but second half was an improvement. We did go a bit route one 2nd half at times but to be fair, it was effective. Howard was winning everything the air and Fryatt and Dyer were getting onto the flickons, we had numerous very good chances. Dyer's was a shocking miss, you could see that King wasn't comfortatble when he was through, should have slid it across for Howard or Fryatt and Fryatt was denied by a very good save.

Need to work on set-pieces, delivery wasn't good but we still caused problems. The long-throws were effective.

There's an argument says that any save is a good one but, apart from the point blank stop from Fryatt, I can't remember anything that wouldn't have been termed a major cock-up had he failed to save.

The on-target shots I recall were mostly tame ones which the keeper stopped comfortably and the two really outstanding chances we missed the target, Dyer with one and Oakley the other.

Fryatt had a brilliant opportunity coming in from the right wing first half when he got around the back and tried to bend one in the corner with Kingy blazing in towards the far post and simply begging for a pass. King himself had a shot from a good position which went straight at the keeper and had previously been crowded out by two defenders as he burst into the box.

There were other moments of goalmouth drama too but memorable saves? I still can't remember them. Wish I could. Must be that beer Dags mentioned. :D:beer:

God when they hit the post just before half time :sweating: :sweating: :sweating:

Thought we played some decent stuff but it's that obvious finishing problem - I would like to see Howard and Fryatt start the next match with Dickov just behind.

Oakley towards the end when he fired over :frusty:

I think their keeper just had a better presence. Looked solid coming out for a corner i remember, couple of good saves. Unlike Hendo who cocked up at least twice running out rashly. I thought they'd scored at the end of the first half with that balls up.

Tend to agree. In fact our speed and willingness in closing down has been a major feature of the season so far and was excellent again today. Did Stockport create a single genuiine opening today? One or two perhaps but too far away for m to see details. Yes they nearly scored twice from a header by one of our defenders which hit the post and a deflection but I cannot remember them carving our defence apart as we did theirs particularly in the last quarter of the game.

In other games too the opposition have had little but crumbs by way of chances. There was a mistake at the beginning of the cup match with Stockport that should have cost a goal but generally the way we hunt people down and win the ball back has been a revelation. And it's not just the natural defenders by any means. Even people like Gradel and Howard seem to be relishing this part of their job and I am sure that reflects the sort of internal team spirit Pearson seems to have built up.
