Guest Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Also disappointing was the distinct lack of "pissing it down" and the fact there was in-fighting between our fans. Poor showing. Expect more this season, as I think there are a lot out there who are due for a reality check. Best part of my day was the train back! Im hoping you lot are as steaming as me. highlight of my day was getting off the train to a song of Tubes wahey! bloody loved it and loved you lads (and lisa you pisshead) Me?
Tubes Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 I cant even remember posting that...damn I gotta go work <_<
jean de plume Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 I'm a bit annoyed by all the arrogant musings of some fans to be honest. If we go around this league slagging off all the other grounds we visit and dismissing all the other teams (many of whom have truly loyal fans who have supported their clubs through sustained periods of very little success) then we are, quite rightly in my opinion, going to get ourselves a very bad reputation. We will be seen as a complete laughing stock (more so than we already are) if come the end of the season we do not attain promotion having gone round behaving in this arrogant way believing that we are above everyone. Personally I loved visiting Edgeley Park today - it represents to me what football should be all about - a ground with character and loads of history, centred in the heart of a community and supported by loyal fans (who have seen little success). We will be playing in worst grounds this season that is for sure so people need to realise this is the league we are in now and maybe try to enjoy it for what it offers. I'm not saying that we shouldnt be engaging in banter but would like us to show a bit more respect and display a bit less arrogance.

I would love to win promotion obviously, but it would be even more pleasant if we were going up with the respect of the rest of the division for the way the fans conducted themselves through humility and modesty, without any arrogance.
Bert Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 I love the "not so glamorous" grounds too. One of the best away days I've had, is at Edgar St, Hereford. Now, that's not a great ground by any means, but you were free to stand, sing and enjoy yourselves, which is what football should be about.

lcfc_jme Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Expect more this season, as I think there are a lot out there who are due for a reality check. Indeed there are. Teams do not come down to this division and just steam-roller it, and they tend to stay down here for a couple of seasons, a la Forest. Why the hell anybody expects us to be any different after years of dreadful football I'll never know. They should just hang themselves, I guess. I would also like to add that Lisa is actually somebody I wouldn't like to mess with after her performance in the cafe yesterday.

davieG Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Stockport POV Gannon: Now we know Guy Nelson 17/ 8/2008 JIM Gannon believes his young Stockport County players have a better idea of what is expected of them in the higher division after holding League One hot prospects Leicester City. County did well to keep out the Foxes in this first home game since last season's promotion, but Gannon admitted the game was something of a culture shock for his side. "The lads said this was a quicker and tougher game than they've ever had," he said. "The standards and the tempo at this level are far higher than in League Two and we have to adapt quickly and be able to play at that level every week." Leicester's first visit to Edgeley Park since 1924 was a tight affair until first-half injury time when Peter Thompson, making his home league debut, reacted quickest to a flick on from Michael Raynes and struck the inside of the post with a shot on the turn. Gannon pushed Raynes up front from central defence for the start of the second-half, but most of the second half action was in County territory. Keeper Owain fon Williams pulled off a great reaction save to deny Matty Fryatt from point blank range and followed it up with another block to keep out Andy King's strike at the end of a flowing Leicester move. Former Manchester City striker Paul Dickov, on as a second half substitute was inches off target with a glancing header and Lloyd Dyer dragged his shot wide with only the keeper to beat as the visitors piled on the pressure at the end. Gannon added: "It was a very respectable result. I thought Leicester were excellent. "But the lads stuck to it. We didn't play as well as we could have, didn't defend as well as we should have but battled. "The only threat we seemed to have was bouncing the ball of Michael Raynes hence the change of shape. "I thought Michael did brilliantly up there, he gave us more of a punch up there, but left us a little more open at the back." *COUNTY will play Port Vale at home in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern section in the week beginning September 1. COUNTY: Williams 7, Mullins 6, Owen 7, Raynes 7, McNulty 6, Baker 6 (Pilkington 62mins 6), Blizzard 8, Dicker 6 (Rose 46mins 6), Gleeson 6, Rowe 7, Thompson 6, Not used: Turnbull, Rigby, McSweeney.

RowlattsFox Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Why did nearly all the Leicester fans that were on the train to Nottingham on the way back get off at Chesterfield by the way? I had my earphones on so I didn't hear any announcements that they might have made, I didn't realise that loads of people had got off until the train had already left Chesterfield so I was paranoid all the way to the next stop worrying that it had changed route or something.

We were told it was quicker, and that we might have missed our train back to Leicester from Nottingham. Worked well for us too, ATMOSPHERE PLATFORM!

Really, I can't say I noticed much difference. We got back into Leicester about 8 and got straight on the 8.07 to Leicester.
