Manwell Pablo Posted 18 August 2008 Posted 18 August 2008 How the **** is Fryatt ahead of Howard on there. Behave voters. Because I gave him 10. There weren't enough points available to give him last week so I've carried a few over to this week and tagged it on to his score.
Scow Posted 18 August 2008 Posted 18 August 2008 Oakley seemed off the pace to me - didn't really impose himself on the game like he did last week. With the ability he has, there's plenty more to see from him.
Joe. Posted 18 August 2008 Posted 18 August 2008 I might just give Matty Fryatt a 10 vs Tranmere in protest.
Simi Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 I might just give Matty Fryatt a 10 vs Tranmere in protest. Don't give into them Joe, Matty Fryatt will stay getting better ratings even though so far this season he is still no better than average.
chesterfox Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Voting Oakley Flop of the Match tests the credence of the FoxesTalk player ratings. He played 90 minutes of an away game we probably dominated for 65 minutes. He was at the heart of a team which closed down the opposition and regained possession so fast that the opposing manager commented on it after his team had been restricted to barely a single self-created chance. Dickov comes on for the closing stages, plays on the right and contributes sweet FA that I can remember yet gets ranked above Oakley. I thought I was being kind giving Dicko 4.5 or something similar, knowing how people hate me to slaughter anyone before they'd had a chance to settle. Mind you Kingy gets slaughtered the first time he takes free kicks but that's another subject. Perhaps we should fly Clemence in from sick bay to take em. You talk a lot of sense Thrac - Oakley and King weren't men of the match by any stretch but they had reasonable games partic. King. their both the kind of players that you don't or can't always appreciate. Imo opinion if the team perform well - as they did - the midfield must have had a decent game - the two go hand in hand! I would be interesting to know how many different MOM there were for as apart from Dickov, Gradel and Hemderson all the players had a very decent game. It's still early days to judge King but for me he has the makings of a real player in the Hoddle mould.
bigneville Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 How the **** is Fryatt ahead of Howard on there. Behave voters. 100% Agree. Howard did so much more compared to Fryatt. I was one of the people who criticised Howard pre-season, but fair to the bloke, having seen a couple of his performances recently, he's starting to turn it around for me. He's certainly putting the effort in and having some joy in the team with the differing football style and weaker opposition. Neither Fryatt or Howard was brilliant, but Howard offered a lot more than Matty did on Saturday
clazkel Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 I think to get the best out of Fryatt you play him up front with DJ or Dickov, not Howard. It's great that Howard is playing better but i would rather he didn't play at all as its a different style of football when he plays (knocking balls for howard to knock down) and i don't think it suits Fryatt. Pearson should give Dickov or DJ a start up front with Fryatt and i think we will be more creative and score more goals. Every manager seems to sticks with Howard and i don't understand why, it was Holloways downfall in the end as he stuck with him imo. I do think Howard played well against Stockport and have improved since last season but we need to be more positive and creative, and have movement up front and i don't think you get that with Howard being there. After the Stockport cup game Pearson said Howard was disappointed for being subbed against MK dons as he is one of the senior players. So against Stockport (cup)he was made captain and played the whole game. Why does everything revolve around Howard!

Why does everything revolve around Howard! to be honest, if pearson knows what he is doing, and has got the balls to see it through, he should be picking the team based on the oponents and the context of the game... for example if your up against three big young SD's you don't play howard you play fryatt/dickov/campbell combinations, no point playing hoof it in that situation, if you're playing away against an attacking team, you play howard and campbell, to catch them on the break - horses for courses - none of our strickers are good enough, or versitile enough, to warrant a start EVERY game.

Yeah i agree with that, no striker warrants a first team place every game and i do think Pearson will do well. He started with King over Weso and Kishishev and thats paid off as King is playing really well. Pearson obviously knows what he is doing but the thought of Howard starting up front every game worries me.

Houdini Logic Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Seems the Fryatt fan-boys are out in force stilll, how he got a better average rating than Howard I will never know. Fryatt didn't impress but that's because he wasn't really in the game. One trick pony Howard lost his ability to knock on a ball
lildave3 Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Fryatt didn't impress but that's because he wasn't really in the game. One trick pony Howard lost his ability to knock on a ball Excuse me?

foxaholic Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Jack Hobbs claimed his second man of the match award in as many matches as once again he kept the Stockport strikers at bay with a sterling defensive performance. It seems the defence caught the eye of the fans once again as fellow centre back Michael Morrison finished as runner up, with striker Matty Fryatt rounding off the top three. The main disappointment of the match was captain Matt Oakley who struggled to find too many good ratings from the fans this week. RowlattsFox Posted 19 August 2008 Posted 19 August 2008 Did you go to the game?Fryatt didn't impress because he didn't have the ability to get his shots away and pick up decent posistions. And how many shots on goal did Steve Howard have? I can't remember him having any to be honest. Fryatt and Howard were both decent second half and both very poor first half, but Fryatt did look the most likely to score in my opinion.

Howard was clearly told to play a deeper role by Pearson, therefore effectively acting as a supplier to Fryatt and also Dyer on Saturday. He won virtually everything in the air, held it up superbly and was a thorn in Stockport's side all afternoon. I didn't think Fryatt had a bad game either but how anybody can say he was better than Howard I don't know. The chances he had he didn't score and still continues to piss about with the ball and take too many touches.

The only difference on Saturday was that he was winning his headers, which was excellent, I'm not disputing that he had a good game. You also have to give credit to Fryatt and Dyer for reading where they are going. I think people are making a big deal out of nothing regarding Fryatt being better than Howard on Saturday, Fryatt got 6.94 and Howard got 6.86, hardly a massive difference is it. Yes Howard should have been higher than Fryatt but I don't think he was that much better than him.

Yes Howard should have been higher than Fryatt but I don't think he was that much better than him. I'm not sure about Howard being higher. Howard did well, won lots of ball and worked hard but most of his work was away from the danger zone whereas Fryatt got into the box dangerously on several occasions, including when he brought the save of the match from Stockport's goalkeeper. Okay you'd expect him to score from five yards but he was in there to have the shot, hit it well and true but credit to their bloke for an exceptional save. I cannot remember Howard having notable goal attempts and this is what's missing with him at the moment.
