No not you, the bloke behind you...well, until he stopped coming anyway.

43 League and cup goals so far this season, back2back wins, top of the table and the odd bit of flair on the pitch. Seriously, what more do these people want? Last season we pulled 22,000 against S****horpe while we were shit and yet now we actually stand a chance of pulling three points from a game and scoring some goals we are slumping down to 18,000-odd a match.

Bizarre.

yes it's a real conundrum isn't it

why would there be fewer fans at games in league 1 than in the championship ? it's a proper mystery and no mistake

Probably because they're fickle idiots that don't seem to realise theres no difference between being in League 1 or the Championship. Its still the club you love - it shouldn't matter.

The fact that it does is pretty sad and says a lot about our fans.

I couldn't agree more by the way Daggers. If anything we should be seeing a massive increase on last years attendances. Especially since people tended to cite the reason for not turning up was that we were playing terrible football.

It's something that I've been wondering about too. I don't understand it. Maybe some gave up at the end of last season and don't fancy coming back?

Only they can explain.

i know what you mean , but the standard of opposition always will have an effect on both the attendances, and the style of football that a team plays

you could argue that scunny are playing much better football than last year or that forest are playing much worse but you really need to take a broader view of the situation .

yes i agree that fans should continue to support their team whatever , but there will always be a percentage that drop out during less successful periods , it's human nature , no great mystery

Don't get me wrong. I do see your point. However, I find it a little frustrating that given a few years we could be back in the prem with all these 'fans' flooding back as if the past 8 years of choosing to watch Man Utd play on sky instead of watching the team they supposedly support. Just my two cents I guess!

when or if that happens , then we can take the moral high ground and look down on them from our lofty perches

This guy seems to sit behind me home and away, same old moaning bastards all the time. Take Crewe for example, he seemed to be expecting us to be 10-0 up at half time. We're doing fine, we've done well to adapt to League One life it's a learning curve for all of us.

We're doing better than I thought we would so to the moaning cnuts behind me, shut the fook up lads and support the team you supposedly love.

I do get very fed up when this woman in front of me has a go at me on Internet forums for being miserable. I do love the team, I moan when I don't think we are playing well. If you don't like it, move  .

...........not forgetting that we only just mustered 15000 over two cup games!

Having watched what teams do after getting relegated to this division I prepared myself for a real struggle. Considering what happened to the likes of forest, top of the league approaching christmas is fantastic achievment in my opinion.

Up until now I think our football has seen a marked improvement on the dross we saw last year, however, if we were to have to resort to 1-0s and 0-0s to get us up I would still celebrate it like we'd won the champions league, but thats just me.

I'm trying not to think of that! It was partially the fault of the teams we played against though. Very short sighted of them to not agree lowering the prices.

Bless you two for having the same amusing thought at the same time

Same here. We are in this division for at a minimum of one season, it's about time these people woke up and realised this and got on with it.

I think the cost has put alot off this year. I know a number of people who wont go to watch league 1 games at championship prices. If Milan set the prices a bit more reasonable we would get well over 20k. £23 quid to watch Southend on saturday is a bit steep imo.

I think the drops have been in due part to a lot of Tuesday night matches and small away followings. The opposition has been poor on Tuesdays as well at hardly brill prices.

Look at the home games on Saturdays. Brizzle Rovers is poor considering their following but that was at the end of our mini-crisis. In ticket office on Saturday, I heard some folk asking about half-season tickets and how much better the fixtures were.

I'll admit my concern from the very first game as been the fans reaction to the team who are clearly young, raw and unproven. They are doing rather well in consideration and it's why I call on everyone to give their support to them for the next season and a half.

Cost will come into it, and I think some are picking and choosing their matches, rather than committing to a season ticket.

It will be interesting to see the numbers applying for play-off final tickets (hopefully we won't need the play-offs) should we get there.

Southend away will be the cheapest match of the season for me. No £45 trainfare to add on to the ticket!

The problem is you have to look at it this way. We're a league 1 club with championship size outgoings. Just £5 off a ticket per person becomes £100,000 per home match. Might not seem like much in the scheme of things but that will pay for a lot of wages. Its a shame but if we want to have the best squad in League 1 these prices will be inevitable.

Is that a nicer way of saying we both said the same inevitably crap joke? :P

Don't think it's rocket science to work out why people are staying away.

£23 a ticket for this level of football is in most peoples eyes to expensive.

Even though we are currently top of the league, to many, it's only for promotion to the Championship.

If, however we were top of the Championship, you would probably find much larger attendances.

Many part time fans would love to go round saying "I was there when we won promotion to the Premiership."

It's an ego trip for them.

Its a loyalty thing, theres the 4,000 that would not bother watching us in League 1 but would in the Championship, this was always going to happen, there was always a few fans that would lack in enthusiasm, unlike me who can't wait for any game we play, I spend the week looking forward to the weekend games. But in fairness our away support has dramatically improved, selling out everywhere but 2 places in the league as far as I can remember (Swindon and Colchester).

Also, Colchester was a midweek match, and we still took over a thousand, a fifth of the overall attendance. If it had been a Saturday, I'm confident the away end would have been just about full.

As I mentioned before lowering the prices by just £5 would potentially cost us £100,000 a game and still wouldn't guarantee us any more supporters.

I'm not sure of our average players earnings but think of this as being the difference between having Tunchev, Oakley, King, Fryatt, Howard, Dickov, Dyer or not.
