MC Prussian Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Personally i'd just stop downloading porn, Finners If he had a Mac, he wouldn't be where he is right now. Integrated virus protection and alike...
DB11 Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 For any sort of PC issue, be it spyware, viruses or trojans, better buy yourself Kaspersky. That's the shit. You can get yourself a demo at CNET.Oh, and one more word of advice: DON'T BUY NORTON, IT'LL fook UP YOUR SYSTEM!!! Kaspersky is crap. Don't get it Norton works fine it just takes up quite a lot of speed etc. so you need a lot of RAM and a good processor otherwise it is fine.
Finnegan Posted 4 December 2008 Author Posted 4 December 2008 If you've ever seen Office Space, just do an Office Space on it. r dey hurting you internats? yas ;_; but is oky!!1
hairy Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 MalwareBytes (remember to update before running and to actually remove the malware once found) : http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-...&tag=button That is the one you want. Always gets the liddle furkers!
lavrentis Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 My pc got malware yesterday, every time I open a folder it said along the lines of "Download this anti spyware" and it links to a download of win-defender-2009. fook you windefender.

Daggers Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Finners - if it is the same one which infected my main machine then don't bother with trying to get it out...I've spent two days working on it and it is one clever piece of code. The challenge of trying to do it has been overcome with the need to have everything up and running properly. It is reformatting as I type this. I always keep everything on a bank of externals so it's no real bother...in fact I'm going to try a change of OS for a bit.
lavrentis Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 ZLOB VIRUS! You say my anti virus will remove this however an AVG scan has not. Will Malware Bytes?
Finnegan Posted 4 December 2008 Author Posted 4 December 2008 How much do external hard drives cost, actually? I've been interested in getting one for a while as I tend to find myself trying to back stuff up quite often. Might nab one in town tomorrow if they're cheapish.

I've been interested in getting one for a while as I tend to find myself trying to back stuff up quite often. Might nab one in town tomorrow if they're cheapish. They're cheapish. They're portable. They can hold 1.5Tb. What's not to love?
lavrentis Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 They're cheapish. They're portable. They can hold 1.5Tb.What's not to love? Just out of curiosity, what is the transfer speed like when transfering large amounts of data from one drive to the other. In other words does it take long because arn't the external hard drives connected via USB 2.0.
act smiley Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Yes. I work at a computer shop and so have to deal with removing viruBut each time you turn your computer off / on it makes the virus worse (This is what my boss says anyway. Whether this is just for one virus he is on about or most I don't know...) Its not usually worse, just right back to square one tbh. Just out of curiosity, what is the transfer speed like when transfering large amounts of data from one drive to the other. In other words does it take long because arn't the external hard drives connected via USB 2.0. The USB2 spec is a third of SATA, at 60 megabytes per second, but to be honest its usually limited by how fast the drives are mechanically rather than the connection. If its a 7200rpm drive with decent cache and low seek times inside a fancy box I can't imagine it being too bad.
Finnegan Posted 4 December 2008 Author Posted 4 December 2008 Would it be faster to transfer to an external hardrive, or to a different computer on the same WiFi connection via MSN?

Ok, I have a SATA drive but it is set to IDE because of Windows XP compatibilities (downgraded from Vista), will this mean that it is slower because it's IDE?
act smiley Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Dunno if that just disables the extra features or actually slows it down too, to be honest.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 I want to thank this thread for making me watch Office Space again. Forgotten how genius it is.

Finnegan Posted 5 December 2008 Author Posted 5 December 2008 I can't believe what a bunch of nerds we are. We're looking up "money laundering" in the dictionary.
