From The Times today, part of an interview with Fabio Capello:

The future

Capello concedes there is much work to do if England are to make a realistic challenge in South Africa, but is convinced the future is bright after last month's 2-1 win over Germany. The Italian has been most heartened by the performances of Aston Villa's young English players this season, with James Milner catching his eye along with Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young.

“I'm very happy for players that play with Aston Villa,” Capello said. “They are young players and are performing. The other young player I like is Milner. He's the future, my future. He was close when he was a Newcastle player, but was injured before we put him in the squad.

“He's a very interesting player and always very good for the under-21s. He scored two goals in the first game I saw, against the Republic of Ireland in Southampton, I think. I remember this game because I thought he was a good player.”

I'd be delighted if Villa made it into the Champions League this year. They are the Jaffa Cakes of football; you might turn your nose up on first offering, but secretly most people like them.

Really like Aston Villa. Have the best manager in the world, loads of young English players and an attractive style of football. My favourite team in the Premiership!

I remember ****ing hating Villa in the late 90s (when we used to beat them regularly), especially after that first leg of the League Cup Semi-Final at Villa Park when we got a 0-0 and were nationally chastised.

I can see why kids these days would like them and I like watching Young and Agbonlahor as much as anyone but it feels wrong for our fans to worship at their feet when they are essentially just Midlands rivals.

They would be hated if we were in the same division

Hardly a great win, very fortunate in fact. If they had Ashton fit instead of Carlton Cole, West Ham would have probably won.

If's, but's and maybe's don't make a season!!

Aston Villa- title contenders? Lots are saying Arsenal are still in with a chance, and Villa have been better than them this season, so why not?

A long run of unbeaten matches could see them in with a shout.

I have to echo the sentiments said about Aston Villa, though I remember the Villa being slagged off when they took Brian Little off us.

They seem to have gone about their business in a fairly dignified, quiet manner. Pretty much sums Martin O'neill up. Players that he has brought in are not your house hold names like Rooney or Ronaldo, but they are effective in what MON is trying to achieve at Villa. I think he doesn't look at winning the Premiership just yet, but he is assembling a squad that is capable of challenging the Big 3 (Arsenal seem to be slipping away from the so called big 4 for me) and looking to win the other competitions like the FA Cup/ Uefa Cup and any other cup competition they are entered in.

They still have to go to Anfield and Old Trafford though.

And they don't really have the depth of squad to make a real challenge for the league this season.

I've seen worser teams than Aston Villa take more than a point at them respective grounds.
