Corky Posted 30 December 2008 Posted 30 December 2008 Big win for the Villa tonight. Seventh away win this season- that's top form.
C-man Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 Laursen is clearly one of the top cb's in the prem John Carew when he is on form is also a top striker and plays great with Agbonlahor. Erm, if you ask any Villa fan, they'll tell you they've played best this season when Agbonlahor has played up top with Milner and Young either side of him. At the moment, I don't think Carew would get into their starting team if he was fit, so he can hardly be considered one of their best players. Laursen is a good defender and pops up with a goal here of there, and I'm sure Villa fans rate him instrumental to their success, but to say he's one of the top centre backs is a OTT Shingler. No. Still the best defender in the Premiership in my opinion, I don't care what you say about Carvalho, Vidic, Ferdinand or anybody else for that matter. Consistently produces performance after performance for a Liverpool defence which ships very few goals. Maybe I have a prejudice against Carragher because of his annoying accent, or his retirement from England, but I really disagree Joe. Okay, he has 550 appearances for Liverpool and clearly to do that nowadays is some feat and he has to be a good defender because of that. Liverpool's miserly defence is also another good barometer for saying he's a very good defender, but I can't help but think he's slightly overrated. Without a doubt he's in the top 5 centre-backs in the Premiership, but I rate Ferdinand, Vidic and Terry higher. Tunchev is also better.
lildave3 Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 They were pretty damn poor tonight, but still got the win. Always a good sign.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 They were pretty damn poor tonight, but still got the win. Always a good sign. Agreed.
fox123 Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 I thought Hull were unlucky to not get a point to be fair, Villa were poor. I don't know why MON didn't take Petrov off he was shocking. Much made of Hull first half of the season and credit where it's due they have done really well, though I expect them to continue their slide and sucked into a battle for survival.

I thought Sidwell wa spoor aswell tbh. I would have definitely brought on a striker for one of them, Agbonlahor doesn't look the same on his own.

I thought defensively in the 2nd half anyway Sidwell contributed more, Petrov seemed to run with the ball then hit a brick wall. Agree with the additional striker, I can see MON buying a more experienced striker to play along side Agbonlahor to pep him up a bit. Similar to what he did with Heskey when he got Claridge to play along side him.
Phube Posted 31 December 2008 Author Posted 31 December 2008 I miss MON... scoring last miute winners/equalisers...
barmy76uk Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 I have never rated that petrov,he has been shocking scored loads of goals in the spl, which isn't hard, hes a very slow play, cuellar has been poor too! Young,Agbonlahor,Barry,Milner,Sidwell and Delfouneso are all class acts,Delfouneso and Agbonlahor will become the best strike partnership in the prem in the next 2 years!

Ultra Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 Villa need a lot more creativity if they want to stay in the top 4. It's time MON added some genuine depth to his squad.
Koke Posted 1 January 2009 Posted 1 January 2009 Agbonlahor is one dimensional and a limited player. He'll do well at the level he's at now, but if Villa wanna move on to the next level as a club and maintain there, they will not do so with Agbonlahor leading their front line. He's not good enough for England either.

Mikey Posted 1 January 2009 Posted 1 January 2009 i would say Young is the most creative player in the prem, milner and barry also! Young maybe, not the other two. Xabi Alonso, Gerrard, Rooney and Carrick are the most creative IMO. Closely followed by Young, Scholes, Lampard and Deco.

Maybes Posted 1 January 2009 Posted 1 January 2009 You forgot Titus Bramble. I agree, he can definitely create something out of nothing in most cases leading to a goal.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 January 2009 Posted 2 January 2009 I agree, he can definitely create something out of nothing in most cases leading to a goal. An own Goal

Mikey Posted 2 January 2009 Posted 2 January 2009 As much as I hate Chelsea, how the fuck can you put Carrick and Rooney down as more creative than Deco? Do you actually watch football? Ever? What a silly question. Sorry did I miss something, are people not aloud to have opinions anymore?

I really don't watch (much) Prem footy, but I heard one commentator say Deco's basically been s**te this year!

What a silly question. Sorry did I miss something, are people not aloud to have opinions anymore? Don't worry looks like Finners was in confrontational mode when he posted that. Although I would say that Deco IS more creative than Carrick and Rooney, recent form would suggest that it's not exactly madness, or indeed ignorance, to suggest otherwise.

Although I would say that Deco IS more creative than Carrick and Rooney, recent form would suggest that it's not exactly madness, or indeed ignorance, to suggest otherwise. It's a tough one. Deco WAS one of the most creative players in the world but tbh he's just lost his touch apart from a quality goal against Bolton Carrick sits back in the defensive midfield role and picks out the long balls into the flanks, into space which even though don't create as many goals, it spreads the play and creates space for others to create.
