DJ Barry Hammond Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 I can only think of one game where Martin has had lots to do and that was Dagenham and he was excellent that day. Other than that I can't think of a game where Martin has been brilliant, but then I can't think of a game that Henderson was brilliant either. Both have had so little to do this season. Thats a fair point - quite often when i'm brilliant in goal I end up letting in 4 or 5, but have in fact kept the game from going into cricket score territory.

The shootout v. Lincoln in the JPT? Scunny?
Father Ted Posted 26 December 2008 Author Posted 26 December 2008 Franchise? The shootout v. Lincoln in the JPT? Scunny? As for Martin against Dagenham, he still conceded 2 goals and even though I respect Hammond [Ankle]'s earlier point, he only had to make a couple of simple dives, which in true fairness all he had to do was stick out his hand.
RowlattsFox Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Franchise? The shootout v. Lincoln in the JPT? Scunny? I don't recall needing him to be outstanding against franchise or S****horpe, he made one fantastic save against S****horpe but Martin has made good saves in games too. And fair enough he won us the shootout. My point was that in most games this season our keeper has been far from busy, so its difficult to say they've had good games. Martin does good things in matches but people seem to pick up on his mistakes a lot more than they do Henderson, same could be said for Hobbs too, maybe its just because they are not ours.
Simi Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Ciask? Been at the club for ages and never ever got near the first team, it's no coincidence.
lildave3 Posted 26 December 2008 Posted 26 December 2008 Father Ted, I'm growing bloody sick of you moaning about Martin.
Micky Ruddle Posted 27 December 2008 Posted 27 December 2008 I never felt comfortable with Martin in goal. Handling isn't exactly the best and is very indecisive. I haven't a clue what Pearson sees in him.

Maybe he came with Hobbs as part as a 2 for 1 offer from the scousers? I don't rate him above Logan, let alone Henderson.
Craig Posted 27 December 2008 Posted 27 December 2008 Am i the only one who thought he wasn't that bad at all yesterday? :dunno: I'm not his biggest fan, but he didn't do anything wrong yesterday.

He struggled with crosses for much of the afternoon.

Joe. Posted 27 December 2008 Posted 27 December 2008 Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's the worst goalkeeper in the world, he's just a liability at times and had a bad day at the office yesterday. And bloody hell Father Ted, he's nowhere near as bad as you make him out to be.

I think people have just got a dislking to him, and will pick up everything bad he has done to strenghten their case. You just have to look at the Halsey thread to see something very similar there. Same happened with Fryatt, same happened with Howard. It's only now, people are starting to change there minds on them.

Because they have both been playing well... Martin hasn't done anything outstanding, whilst not been dreadful all the time though. Yesterday he gifted Leeds a chance by dropping a fairly routine catch for any average keeper. If that's not worth mentioning that I don't know what it is. Similar case to Henderson at the moment, well the Hendo from last year. Everytime Martin comes for a catch I worry he might drop it, if that fear is spreading too the defence, we have ourselves a problem.
Father Ted Posted 27 December 2008 Author Posted 27 December 2008 Give Father Ted a break, he watched Cisak in the warm up once y'know. He is good enough. Great sarcasm as usual from Ched. Father Ted, I'm growing bloody sick of you moaning about Martin. I don't care. I am like Uncle Albert, I fight for my cause even though sometimes I can be wrong. Ciask? :laugh:Been at the club for ages and never ever got near the first team, it's no coincidence. It's Cisak not Ciask And he's 18. He joined the club when he was 15. No coincidence he hasn't played yet
Simi Posted 27 December 2008 Posted 27 December 2008 Great sarcasm as usual from Ched. And he's 18. He joined the club when he was 15. No coincidence he hasn't played yet Glad you continue to appreciate the sarcasm. He's still not looked like making a start for us though. We've not had someone hold down the goalkeeper shirt for a while now and he's not been given the chance. Yes, he's still young and will need more time. But saying he is better than Martin because of how you seen him in the warm up is ridiculous.

Ok, he's 3rd choice keeper at the minute but he must be close to it because surely if he wasn't ready, Pearson would have made an emergency loan signing as cover for Martin while Henderson is out but he hasn't which suggests that Cisak isn't too bad. Also, I watched him at Quorn, he had a massive presence and was always telling his defenders what to do.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 December 2008 Posted 27 December 2008 I know Martin isn't perfect, and he is a little suspect at crosses but he's a good shot stopper and is more than adequte for League One level. I'm not someone that holds this Father Ted type view, refusing to praise Martin even when he's not done too badly. Some of his performances have earned us points.

But saying he is better than Martin because of how you seen him in the warm up is ridiculous. Cisak was a bench player in the championship last season at 18 - he didn't actually sit on the bench, whilst being part of the match day squad, because a certain gimp manager who got us relegated, did not like playing a bench keeper... Cisak plays for the Australian U/20's and is rated as one of the top prospects to replace Schwartzer as the next Mainstay Australian #1 - Cisak is also being groomed by the club as the club's next mainstay #1 - He has the goods. He is technically better than Martin and Henderson. He is bigger and stronger than Martin and henderson, and holds a few weight room records amongst the current 1st team squad. Most importantly he has a very level head on his shoulders which will help him in going the distance. He does lack experience, but so did Joe hart and any other young keeper who has ever played the game. When he gets his chance he will do exceptionally well - And father ted, what you see in his warm up is indicative of his ability. he is going to be an outstanding keeper that leicester will do well to hold on to - quite a few premiership and championship clubs sniffing about Cisak I believe.
Jimmy Posted 28 December 2008 Posted 28 December 2008 to be fair playing a team like Hereford, who have hardly scored away from home is probably the best time to give Cisak his debut, neither Martin nor Henderson fill me with loads of confidence so I'd prefer we sign someone else but if Cisak is any good then why not throw him in today

Jimmy Posted 28 December 2008 Posted 28 December 2008 As every goalkeeper should do. a point people forget, when I used to play Sunday league my defenders hated me because I was always barking orders but the manager loved that and we didn't concede many goals either
Father Ted Posted 28 December 2008 Author Posted 28 December 2008 Watching Cisak again today in the warmup (yes Ched, in the warmup ) He was swapping with Carl Pentney and it was very clear that Cisak was head and shoulders above Pentney in ability and build.
