broughtonblue Posted 9 August 2014 Posted 9 August 2014 Just emailed fanzone to see if anything is planned, will let you know of any response Hi As it's 10 years this year since Everton fan Bernard was tragically killed on his way to our stadium to watch a football match, I'm just wondering if the club are going to mark the occasion on Saturday when we once again face Everton? I think it would be a tremendous gesture, even if it's just a wreath presented to the Everton officials at half time or something, this could then be placed in our memorial garden where I believe there is a plaque remembering him. Thanks
LanguedocFox Posted 9 August 2014 Posted 9 August 2014 I remember the match well: the weather was awful, and there was all sorts of stuff blowing around. There was talk in the ground about someone being hit by a sheet of wood that blew off the side of a building site, but we just though it would be a bit of a bruising. The news was annoucned at the end of the match, I think, and it was a real shocker. I think it's great that City continue to remember Bernard Murphy: it's exasperating being a fan at times, but sometimes the club - and its fans - do something that makes you proud. The memorial garden is one of those things.
PAULCFC Posted 9 August 2014 Posted 9 August 2014 A minutes silence, just before kick off....it would be special for us and Everton fans, could also include the Donny fan and one of our own.
AKCJ Posted 9 August 2014 Posted 9 August 2014 A minutes silence seems a bit strange (attempting to be gentle) it has been 10 years. Maybe a short message from the Birch followed by a nice chant of 'there's only one Bernard Murphy' before the game starts.
Captain... Posted 10 August 2014 Posted 10 August 2014 Maybe a short message from the Birch followed by a nice chant of 'there's only one Bernard Murphy' before the game starts. No just no. A wreath a message from Birch and polite applause would be sufficient.
Craig Posted 10 August 2014 Posted 10 August 2014 Hopefully we'll have at least invited his family to the game.
broughtonblue Posted 11 August 2014 Posted 11 August 2014 Just received this email from the club..., Thank you for your email. The Club are in regular contact with the Murphy Family, who I believe will be in attendance at the match on Saturday. Kind Regards Jim

The memorial garden is one of those things. I can vouch for this, my farther is in the memorial garden and it is a truly a beautiful place. I have often sat on Bernhard's bench for a quiet moment of reflection, it is a great gesture from the club and i am very proud of what is brings to the community and has done for my family.
MattGamble92 Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 The memorial is great but I always worry with it being so close to the ground. Only takes one nobhead away fan
HitchinFox Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 Puts it all into perspective. Feel rather proud to be a Leicester fan.
broughtonblue Posted 16 August 2014 Posted 16 August 2014 Was lovely to see the wreaths placed on and around his bench today, from both clubs and family/friends, also the amount of fans of both clubs paying their respect was touching. R.I.P
