West Indies v England

If Vaughan had been captain, we'd have won this series.

The Windies would have followed on in Antigua, and we'd have batted with far more urgency on the first day of a test we needed to win.

However the series has proved that Swann has now taken over as England's premier spinner. He can also bat and field, which gives him even more advantages than Monty.

Oh, and Amjad Khan - WTF? He was always out of his depth and will now disappear back into county obscurity, just like Darren Pattinson before him.

What the hell were the selectors on?

Apart from the extra 10/15 mph he's no better a bowler than Collingwood, On that showing anyway.

Khan produced some excellent deliveries but was too wayward, may just be because he was trying too hard to bowl at a good pace but at 28, he's not the future and I fail to see the point bringing him in when we could have gone for a talented youngster.

One of the biggest disappointments of the series for me was Owais Shah, he's wasted yet another chance to cement a place in the side on some flat pitches where everyone else was having a field day, and he is a liability with his running between the wickets. Bell deserved to be dropped but I'm a fan of him and I'd take him over Shah anyday, and I hope Bell can come back to be the class player I think he can be, we also missed his close-catching.

If Vaughan comes back, he'll take the No.3 slot anyway, so both Shah and Bell will miss out.

Bell's a quality fielder, but not consistent enough to make the side as a batsman.

I guess some of the blame for not winning that test could go to Khan, perhaps Prior and some of the other bowlers. What was it like, 75 extras or something? We could have probably spent the whole day bowling at the Windies if it wasn't for that.

Prior's performance as a wicketkeeper in the last Test was one of the worst ever seen at international level. :o

I'd expect Ambrose to return in the summer.

I think they should as well, but remembering how long they stuck around with geraint jones just because he could bat makes me think they'll stick with prior for well longer at least

Ambrose isnt upto much as a keeper either. You either pick Prior for his runs or a specialist keeper like Foster or Read who would probably average mid 20's at test level.

Im not in agreement with Vaughan returning unless he gets big runs at the start of the county season. Hoping Ravi will replace Shah imminently.

Agree with pretty much all that.

We're struggling for a consistent performer at no.3 anyway so Vaughan wouldn't be a bad option at all, but he does need to score some domestic runs. I can't believe it took until the 5th day of the 5th test for Strauss to employ some brave tactics, and even then there was a case for England to declare slightly earlier.

Swann has outshone Panesar hugely, consistent threat with the ball and not terrible with the bat either.

Khan had the odd decent delivery, but really was poor, you simply can't give that amount of runs away.

I doubt it. Prior's runs will have done enough to keep him in the side I reckon, especially if we need him to bat at 6.

The number 3 position is really up for grabs, whoever starts the county season well has a chance, be it Vaughan, Bell, Shah, Key or anyone else.

Prior kept awfully. Too many byes, dropped the ball on several occasions.

It seems as though we haven't got a keeper who can bat brilliantly. We haven't had one since Alec Stewart. So we either go for a keeper who isn't a great batsman, or a better batsman but not a great keeper.

Watching the twenty20, and an absolutely disgusting decision to kive KP out LBW.

fooking shoddy umpiring. He's ruined the game.

Love to see Key in there.

I haven't seen enough of him really but it's seems a stupid decision to put someone who gifts the opposition so many extras into the team, in ODI's anyway.

True, even more so that this was a 20/20 where as long as your accurate you're half way to being a useful player.
