welck12 Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 You're all MASSIVE RACISTS.Not really. Look, the Nanny state is at it again. Fancy trying to stop people from drinking handwash UNTIL THEY DIE. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7920576.stm I wonder if they use that in the Dawn Centre?

Fancy trying to stop people from drinking handwash UNTIL THEY DIE. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7920576.stm I wonder if they use that in the Dawn Centre? They'll have to put the price of hand gel up, hospitals will stop using it because it's too expensive and we'll all get MRSA.
The People's Hero Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Tonight I'm going to Wetherspoons and I'm going to drink 99p a pint bitter until either I'm sick all over myself or they refuse to serve me anymore. Have that.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Tonight I'm going to Wetherspoons and I'm going to drink 99p a pint bitter until either I'm sick all over myself or they refuse to serve me anymore. Have that. You're a fool to yourself. You need to get down to the hospital and start getting that gel down you. If they need to pump your stomach or resuscitate you, at least you'll be in the right place, and you'll save ££££s
Babylon Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 Put up the legal drinking age to 21. Instantly revoke the licences of those found selling to people under 21 for six months. Early closing restrictions and fines for pubs who sell to under 21's. Ban the sale of ridiculously priced alcohol... ie. £1.50 for 2litres of bloody cider. These should encourage the almost compulsory checking of ID's that bars/off licences do in America. Alcohol problems... done.

In theory that would work, but whose going to monitor, implement and maintain,....I see 13 years old drinking in the bus shelter outside the off licence and when pissed cause public damage, and the police just ignore them?????? I like the the thought of a higher age limit for alcohol, but don't like the rise in cost of alcohol, kids and alcoholics will drink no matter the cost, they will just rob, steal or mug some more!!
Corky Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 The parents should warn about the dangers of alcohol from an early age, so kids will drink responsibly. But when you see drunken "stars" paraded in the media it's no wonder youngsters think it's okay to get drunk.
Ultra Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 That's not what I asked to be explained, this is what you said:Is Leicester a worse example because of the racism card being played? So, who's playing the racism card, for what, where and how, and the evidence???????? Your the one making the 'racial' remark mate, so what do you expect!!! I don't think there's any racial element as such behind the City Council's attitude - it arises from a fear of offending the business community, whether big or small. Companies like Tesco are often very aggressive in protecting any perceived threats to their licence. They can afford to emply expensive barristers to pursue cases on their behalf and also to undertake lengthy appeals in cases where licences are revoked. Councillors are aware of the significant costs involved in this process and the consequent risks for local taxpayers. They're therefore often reluctant to confront Tesco directly, even where there's clear evidence that the availabilty of cheap alcohol has caused problems to communities. Smaller, street-corner businesses note what happens in these cases and demand (quite understandably) that the Council acts consistently in treating their applications. So they're given the green light too. Unless and until central government gives more support to local authorities prepared to resist such bullying, licences will continue to be readily available. But with both main parties (in England at least) unwilling to stand up to big business, the present situation is likely to continue for some time yet. I'm no fan of nationalism, but I credit the SNP for having ideas on how to tackle this serious social and economic issue. It's a shame that other parties seem more intent on petty political point-scoring.

The media's role in glamorising alcohol (especially in soaps, where so many scenes are set in pubs and bars) needs to be looked at. And look how many adverts for cheap booze you see in the papers and on TV. Maybe we should consider a total ban on alcohol adverts, such as we have now for tobacco.

Thracian Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 I'm expecting Thracian to come with a link from yahoo that states asian off licences have had less liquor licences revoked then there white counterparts!!! In my experience, as a teenager the asian stores more likely to sell to the under age, and I know a couple of stores had got caught by the law and rightfully so!! I hate people assuming OR using the 'racism card', it's not fair on either the public or the race!! Unfortuantely there seems to be very little faith in our council, the pc brigade and it's sympathisers have made very small and trivial issues into massive ones and the general public are beggining to assume a wider preferential treatment for ethnic minorities when there probably in many cases there isn't any evidence for it!! Then there's the ignorants, who just make blatant assumptions and have jumped on this bandwagon!! Any link would be long out of date. Besides I'm too big a fan of our Asian corner shop anyway. The service they give is excellent even to the point of maintaining special stocks of my sister's favourite brew.
The People's Hero Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 I'm pissed at work. And later I'll be even more pissed. Have that.

My local corner shop is open 24 hours for us, if the shop is shut or it's a bank holiday, we just knock on his door and get the nectar we need!!!! Although he does swear at us in bengali alot
Babylon Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 How's that going to stop all us mature alcoholics from pickling ourselves? Instantly it won't.... but hopefully as the younger generations who haven't been able to drink themselves silly at 14 get older, they might be more responsible.

But politicians are planning this, surely they only deal in quick fix, knee jerk reactions and change their minds after 10 minutes?
Corky Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 You also have to feel for those youngsters who drink responsibly, without causing trouble for themselves and others. I bet they feel very annoyed.

Damn straight I do. But like everyone these days, I'm always annoyed about something. Currently, it's my neighbours not taking their bins in
BoneDog Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 I sense a business opportunity. I'm gonna start buying some home-brew kits, brew it and sell it to the local 15 year olds. Could make a tidy sum.

A guy at work has declared he's going to buy a huge barn near the border and start selling White Lightning at £5 for two litres. They'll be queuing for days!
Head Honcho Posted 3 March 2009 Posted 3 March 2009 With pills currently going for 50p each I wonder where they'll decide to spend their penny's when the price of alcohol goes up?

BoneDog Posted 4 March 2009 Posted 4 March 2009 With pills currently going for 50p each I wonder where they'll decide to spend their penny's when the price of alcohol goes up? Yes again. The problem is with these youth, they like the pills and the cheap cider. Don't know why? It should be pills and greenery
