Article that talks about Leicester...

That's exactly what it is. I support Leicester whereas most, if not all, of the lads from my ethnic background in my generation support top 4 club.

The difference between me & them was that I was taken to Filbert St. as a kid, and they weren't taken anywhere, not Molinuex, not The Hawthorns. They ended up watching Arsenal on telly and now 15 years later they are hardcore Arsenal fans and I'm a hardcore Leicester fan.

It wasn't and still isn't in our culture to take your kids to local football matches. I know a few east African lads who support Cardiff and a few who support the two Sheffield clubs, but other than that majority are Arsenal and Man U fans due to them not being exposed to live local matches when they were young.

Yeah agree 100% but then people seem to be saying they just want it to work itself out naturally without any attempts at intervention. Although that would obviously be by far the best thing, for me that is not necessarily going to happen because the situation just perpetuates itslef. None of my Asian mates supported city or rovers (I'm from Bristol) because they're families didn't take much interest in football. All of them are now really into football themselves but support top 4 teams because they were never taken down to ashton gate or eastville, so when they have kids themselves they're going to be encouraging them to support man u or liverpool, and it goes on.

The people who write these things don't understand matters themselves.

I agree with most of the other comments in here; I'd say at least 90% of the Asian football fans I know support a big four team, and that's a fact. It's the same virtually everywhere, so it's bollocks that "clubs can do more" to reach out to these fans.

I don't really see why that makes it bollocks. Surely the fact that 90% of Asain fans support a big four team shows that clubs should 'reach out' (although that's a fooking fruity way of phrasing it) to these fans and get them interested in their local team.

I agree although the correct thing would be to reach out to all walks of life, especially those that are unfortunate enough not to have been to a footy game!!!

Well, it's a bit of a lost cause if you ask me. And why they should just 'reach out' to one minority is a little bewildering when you consider there's plenty of non-Asians who don't support Leicester and choose to go for a big four side.

I don't really understand how Asians have been "excluded from the game for years"; in sunday league football maybe, but not from a Leicester City point of view.

Football is generally not an Asian sport, and it will always be difficult to gain a large interest, there's nothing racist about it. In general, most Asian parents have very little interest in the sport, and therefore their children simply end up following whoever's hyped up by the media at the time and shown on Sky every week.

Agree with the last paragraph but surely one of the biggest factors that contributed to that was that those parents were infact excluded from the game in the 70s, 80s, early 90s. Of course they could go to a football match if they wanted to and upmost respect to any that did, but for me if there's a good possibility that you're going to be racially abused if you do something, then that counts as some kind of exlcusion from that activity. I don't see how you can not agree with that.

I'll admit I don't have that knowledge of the 70's and 80's to go by, but if that's the case then fair enough.

Let's be clear, Piara Power is talking bollocks. City are already aware of a market that is largely untapped and can be used as a source of revenue to replace those who have grown to dislike the way they have been treated by the club or can no longer afford the daft prices - and for Power to pontificate on the matter as if City are carrying on in ignorance is ridiculously stupid. This is accentuated by Power being oblivious to the fact that kids can get in for free!

As far as racism being a deterrant? We still have our bunch of K-block cockends who intimidate during and after games with their racist, xenophobic shite - we still haven't banned them from games despite the club being given more than enough information about them. With cunts like that about why is it any surprise that we don't have a better mix of ethnicities at the ground? :dunno:

Our club is being dangerously complacent - certainly in comparison with teams like Sunderland who are doing far more to reach out to minority groups, even though their catchment area is far more predominatly white than ours.

Token gestures like signing an Asian squad member who's never going to make a significant appearance in the first team, simply won't be enough.

The one thing i have noticed is that the majority of my indian friends/work colleagues support one of the 'big 4' Not a clue why but none of them have any time for City.

same at my workplace as well adam

Let's not generalise too much there then...

exactly.. had a season ticket with another asian friend of mine for the past 5 years..

although.. although.. bieng asian it does annoy me to find that most other asians support either man utd or liverpool

When I had a season ticket at filbo there were 3/4 asian blokes sat behind me... supported Leicester all year until we played Liverpool and they all turned up in Liverpool tops!! Bloody glory hunters! :D

I know loads of asian lads who follow football, but as has been mentioned before they all support a big four team. I support city because they are my local team and it's all about local pride... do lots of Asians not feel that affiliated to the city yet? After a few more generations are born here maybe they will do.

Who knows.

goand see the bloke who runs the shop on gwendolen road.. he`s as blue as you can get.

At my kids schools, the other (mostly white) kids who claim to be football fans all support the big Premiership clubs. Few of them are Leicester fans, mostly because City have been losing for most of their lives, and also because football is increasingly seen as a 'product' where people choose their favourite brand, rather than feeling a loyalty to their local team.

LCFC are trying to address this in various ways, and the new 'adult and child' season ticket is part of that, I guess. Given the population in the city, the club would be remiss if it wasn't trying to get Asian kids to come to games - and possibly free tickets is the way to do that if they are unlikely to be brought to games by their own families, who either don't have an interest or have got direct experience of racism in football in the 1970s and 1980s. It's not that long ago that racist chanting was commonly directed at black players, something which is unlikely to have made football grounds a popular place to come for those fans who aren't white. Supporting Liverpool on TV from the comfort and safety of your own home is understandably preferable I think.

Leicestershire have had only very limited success at getting more Leicester-based Asians to support them over the past few seasons, despite hoping that overseas players from India would help to build a bridge to the club for Asians. That said, I've heard white people at Grace Road on more than one occasion moaning about the presence of Asians in the members' enclosure at games, in a way which is hardly welcoming, so perhaps it's not surprising that the club has been limited in its success at encouraging them to attend.

And before we get carried away with our credentials as an anti-racist football club, perhaps we should give a thought to not singing "where's your caravan" every time someone plays at the Walkers with long hair...

But then again when we were at school together, there were like no City fans... only like 2 out of 70ish in my year... lol

Now, all but two Asians I know, inc. Arj support City. All the rest are either Man u or Liverscum fans. Gets on my tits.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
