colbo68 Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Are people still feeling that Pearson is wise and correct to have filled the squad with loanees this season? Yes we are gonna go up, BUT we have won 2 in the last eight games and our performances have dipped.... Are we going up too quickly and should he now be at least thinking about the squad for next season (ie beginning to play Pentney, Chambers, Lee Cox, Kisnorbo et al) To my mind, without making some great signings in the close season we aint gonna fair well next season... Discuss please
Daggers Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 My opinion hasn't changed from the one I gave seventeen similar threads ago.

Discuss please As we don't know which League we're going to be in there's not a lot of point picking a team based on an unknown, planning behind the scenes is another thing altogether. I think it's fairly obvious to everyone that the team wiil be different next season, whatever league we are in. Picking players based on a supposed future scenario would not in itself have altered the results of the previous 8 games. I do agree that he could have prepared other players ready for action a bit better but is hamstrung to some extent by not having a reserve set up.
CosbehFox Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 When the expectancy is to get promoted immediately, I suppose you can understand Pearson's short-termism. Mandaric hardly going to support a 3 year plan for League 1 now is he? Should be different next season hopefully.
Floating Fox Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Pearson has done well this season, imo, but we're becoming WAY too predictable and yesterday's defeat has been on the cards for a couple of weeks now. Hopefully it'll snap players out of their complacent state, wake them up and force them to see the job through. And also, hopefully Pearson will open his eyes and drop Joe "I have heroic potential so I don't give a shit" Mattock.
Dr The Singh Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 He's virutally suceeded finishing his target, which was promotion!! How he's done it, is another thing!! Were seeing cracks in our teams armour because were stuttering towards the end. If he can amass as strong as squad but for the championship, we should be ok!!
maddog Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 We always had to lose a game. I actually feel more relaxed now, theres no pressure to keep the record going. And the players DEFINATELY stopped attacking against Stockport towards the end thinking about the record probably. Although i am looking over our shoulders now, the P'Boro game could now be the new Mk Dons game They were miles away when we played Dons, now their within 9 points.
Tuna Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 The task this season was to win promotion. How it comes about and who plays for the club is not important, as long as we are there at the end of the season that's all that matters.

The very least we should expect is instant promotion after seeing our club slip into division 3 for the first time ever. Wont be much fun going back down again though because next season we will be fighting for survival. I'm not sure Pearson is the man to get us back in the prem but we'll just have to wait and see (and suffer) as usual.

My sentiments too, would rather be straight up by any means than scrabbling around at this level for years to come trying to blood youngsters. Of course it would be great to have a team now that could mature and grow so that we would not have to buy/loan and sell players, but that's just unrealistic.
Cobbo Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 9 points clear at this stage of the season - anyone expect that at the start? I certainly did not and so still have to say Pearson has done great so far. Still lots of points to play for and hopefully we win most of them but we shall see. Maybe the defeat will help us now with the pressure of the unbeaten run having been lifted. Loanees are key to success in the lower leagues, so judge him on how good they are, rather than how many we have had.

I'd have chewed your right arm off to be in this position last August, and I would much rather be very slightly looking over our shoulders than trying to play catch up with less than 10 games to go.
gosfox Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 I sometimes despair at the fickleness of some of our fans.....last season, after our drop into the "abyss" it was, quite understandably, doom and gloom. There was even talk, by some, of our slipping down to league 2 and eventually out of existance. Pearson has come in and transformed our team out of all recognition, and in about 5 or six more games we will, almost certainly, be back in the championship at the first attempt... a feat that has hardly ever been accomplished by a team relegated to league 1/Third Division. Now some are questioning the means used to arrive at this position....IMHO unbelievable!! The goal for this season was a tough one....promotion ASAP, it is almost mission accomplished....and I for one have every faith that Pearson will know what is required to carry on the good work in the championship and, hopefully beyond

Discuss please Oh ye of little faith! NP has done(almost) exactly what he was brought in to do i.e. get city promoted. He has done a great job, but if you prefer to have stayed in 3rd div. for a while longer, we could have kept Holloway! The loan system is here to stay, and it benefits football clubs mainly outside of the Premiership. It's also good for the players that are loaned out, 'cos they get to play games on a regular basis, as opposed to not playing at their parent club. Despite Milan Mandarick, we are not a rich football club, and undoubtedly we will have to rely on the loan player system next season. Just think how much we would have had to have paid for players such as....Hobbs, Cleverly, Gilbert, Martin/Stockdale/Bunn, Davies, etc. We are going to finish the season with probably close on 100 points, so sorry but I can't really see why you are grumbling. Finally, I think we are fortunate to have captured NP, because IMO he is going to be a manger that we are going to have competition for, from other football clubs to take him from us.
Legend_in_blue Posted 12 March 2009 Posted 12 March 2009 Having bought my ST today, I couldn't give a monkey's how we go about getting out of this division now, as long as we just 'get it done'. NP has done a good job so far, I just hope we've got enough in the tank to pull it off and make safe within the next 5 games or so. Milwall away this weekend is the biggest game of the season. Pull it off, we are up. We'll turn over Colchester and then be well up for Peterboro' and the pressure's all on them. This weekend, pressure is on us - we must rise to it and see it through.
