Babylon Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/spor...il/article.html Leicester City have made Wayne Brown their second signing since winning promotion to the Championship. The defender, who has been on loan from Hull this season, has sealed a permanent two-year deal at the Walkers Stadium. Brown's acquisition follows on from another loanee, Jack Hobbs, who signed from Liverpool for four years just a few hours before City were handed the League One title on Friday. Brown, 32, adds to the strength of the back four which will be further boosted by the return to full fitness of Bulgarian international Aleksandar Tunchev in time for the pre-season. City chairman Milan Mandaric has indicated up to six new players could be signed before next season, but said: "This will be in addition to Hobbs and Brown, who we are delighted to have joining us. They have both done very well for us this season and I am sure they will do so again in the Championship." Brown made six starts this season, two appearances as a substitute and, in the absence of Tunchev and suspension to Hobbs, has helped City during the crucial run-in. He played a part in steering City through a difficult away win at Hereford after the visitors had gone behind. And he followed that up with a key role in the clean sheet on Easter Monday against Leeds, which meant Steve Howard's last-gasp goal was the winner. The victory ensured full points over the holiday programme, which saw City pull away from the pack just when their results seemed to be faltering. City boss Nigel Pearson was a defender in similar mould to Brown, and it was no surprise that his successful loan spell from the KC Stadium should result in this permanent deal. With inexperience at the back in Hobbs and Michael Morrison, Brown, who has played in the Premier League with Hull and Ipswich, will find his powers of leadership called upon next season. Already a fans' favourite, he will be welcomed as a valuable asset.
sbfox Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 The 'six in addition to Hobbs and Brown', bit is good. A decent signing though, not in my starting line-up, but good cover.
Babylon Posted 28 April 2009 Author Posted 28 April 2009 Confirmed on OS. http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~1641354,00.html Leicester City are today delighted to announce the signing of centre half Wayne Brown from Premier League side Hull City for an undisclosed fee. Brown, who initially joined the club on loan in January, has signed a two-year contract with the club and follows Jack Hobbs in turning his temporary move into a permanent deal. The 31-year-old has been a real rock at the centre of defence since making the move to the Walkers Stadium. He has made a total of eight appearances to date for the club - with the Foxes unbeaten on each of those occasions. Brown is more than familiar with the surroundings of the Championship, having been almost ever-present in the Tigers side that gained promotion to the top flight last season. He said: "I am obviously delighted to have made the move permanent. Leicester City are a big club with an ambitious Chairman, a good Manager and a massive fan base. "It was great to finally get our hands on the League One trophy on Friday evening. There is a really good attitude here and we all want to continue to move forward and progress once again next season." Brown began his career at Ipswich Town and also represented Colchester United, QPR, Wimbledon and Watford before making a permanent move to Vicarage Road in 2002. The player then re-joined Colchester in 2004 following a further loan spell at Layer Road. He made a total of 158 appearances in just three years before making a £450,000 move to Hull in 2007. The Foxes were able to speed the move through after they brought forward their Season Ticket renewal deadline date to put them in an improved financial position to recruit new players. Supporters yet to secure their Season Tickets for the upcoming 2009-10 campaign are reminded that the y need to secure their seats before April 30 to avoid the 10 per cent price increase.
crafty fox Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 building from the back, we look quite strong defence wise now. wouldnt suprise me if stockdale is recruited soon, and if pearsons eye for a player is as good as it has been this year with davies, tunchev, morrisson, cleverly i think we can look forward to the new signings and a successful season next year.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Brown is a decent player but he doesnt have an awful lot of pace, its a good signing provided they didnt spend too much IMO.
Munzie Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 I'm happy enough with Brown signing. Can only see him being used for cover for a fit Tunchev, Hobbs (& possibly Morrison). If he's happy with that - everyone's happy! I would also like to see Stockdale and Gilbert retained as well. Two young, promising payers. Along with them, I'd like Nige to bring in some experience in order to balance things up.
Hitesh Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 I didn't see that signing coming...totally out of the blue!!
Fox92 Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Nice 'hard' man to have in. Good signing. As well as 6 more
Lillehamring Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 this 'six', seems rather suspiciously definite - anybody else get the feeling that pearson knows EXACTLY who he is after?
Guest Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 this 'six', seems rather suspiciously definite - anybody else get the feeling that pearson knows EXACTLY who he is after? I'd be surprised if he didn't know exactly where he wants to strengthen by now but exactly who's a bit of a different question
Babylon Posted 28 April 2009 Author Posted 28 April 2009 this 'six', seems rather suspiciously definite - anybody else get the feeling that pearson knows EXACTLY who he is after? Good... better than Holloway and Allens pick n mix of any old shite.
Munzie Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 this 'six', seems rather suspiciously definite - anybody else get the feeling that pearson knows EXACTLY who he is after? It feels good that we have a Manager who knows exactly what/who he wants at this early stage. Having worked with them, he surely has a game plan for next year already, no doubt been planning it quietly for some time now. I would suggest that he has set his sights on what positions we need to strengthen and the sort of personnel he wants to bring in. With this sort of preparation, it makes it a little easier to hunt the market for potential targets as well as sell the belief to them when trying to secure their services. Let's just hope that we have more than one game plan that does not require us routing through balls to Howard's head all the time.
davieG Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 It's a good job Holloway took this with him when he left
crafty fox Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 I'd be surprised if he didn't know exactly where he wants to strengthen by now but exactly who's a bit of a different question probably zsolt lacko and jimmy neilsen
Lillehamring Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 I'd be surprised if he didn't know exactly where he wants to strengthen by now but exactly who's a bit of a different question maybe, but i wouldn't be surprised if the back room boys had a shortlist drawn up even before we were crowned - i guess the real problem will be making sure he gets the right combination of names....
MPH Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Great stuff. I think the thing that excites me about this coming season is not only does it appear we will have a better standard of player but we will actually have genuine quality strength in depth lovin it!
maddog Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Nice. If we can find ourselves a decent keeper and a right back, we could potentially have the best defence in the league again. Tunchev/Hobbs/Brown/Morrison combo sounds delicious. Hopefully Mattock can improve, i don't think he's got any better since he first started for us, where Morrison, Hobbs and even Brown have got better. Mattock looked a better player when i saw him at Barnsley 2 seasons ago than he does now. And thats been the let down with Mattock, he's a good player with loads of potential but just doesn't seemed to have improved.

That defence is fine in the air and genuinely combative but would be extremely vulnerable to pace and movement - and I'd include Mattock in that. Even this season it's been the case at times but very few teams have attacked us in any force to demonstrate the fact.

Oh Lord is this the same DJ who played for us, and the one who seems to have scored most of his goals for Blackpool from the spot. Macauley and kisnorbo weren't quick but they kept them out.

Jonezy Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Saw the Leeds game on a crappy internet stream, but I was still impressed with Brown and his bully tricks on the Leeds argie bargie striker. Vocal, experienced and old-school no shit centre-back, he will come in handy next season. Also he will be able to help developing Hobbs and Morrison, like he helped develop Michael Turner at Hull. If this deal is only costing us the rumoured 200k, its a steal.
