Stewarmy Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 I thought it did have a screen! And it was colour - only towards the endDont get me wrong it wasnt a modern day plasma thingy but i do remember trying to pick out the players faces when the line up was read out Anyone else remember this?? It was a scoreboard, pretty similar to the one we have now......with a crappy yellow and black screen above it, wasnt it??(That always seemed to have an advert for Upton Steel on it.....)
Southern Fox Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 I must be going mad - but I remeber that they changed it towards the end of the Filbert era and it was colour - it wasnt a TV screen but they did put pics of players up there as the announcer read out the team. Am i going mad
Southern Fox Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 http://www.oldgrounds.co.uk/filbert23.jpg Defo had colour on top im certain
Matt Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 I loved that scoreboard even if it was shit and it had bits of letter's missing.
Monk Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 To be fair, the scoreboard at Filbo was better than the ones at the Walkers. I don't think we necessarily need a video screen, but a better scoreboard would be a good idea. Can't see it happening whilst in the Championship though. If we get some big bucks coming our way through promotion then maybe we could spend 50k-100k on tidying up the stadium a bit. Mandaric is being good with money and clearly as a business man he will not put money unless it increases revenue / performance or decreases costs. It's a nice to have, but as others have said if we can do the business on the pitch then the money should follow.
Munzie Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I'd love a brand new Aston Martin DB9, but other commitments (mortgage, utility bills etc) dictate that now is not the time to book a test drive. Why do we need video screens? The only reason I can see is for the occasional mistake by the referee or other controversial tackle/incident. Even then, those grounds with screens won't show this type of replay for fear of igniting this situation with the crowd. Pointless.

Guest Bilo Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 A colour scoreboard like QPR have wouldn't go amiss, but a video screen? No thanks, I prefer watching the game on the pitch. That is the reason behind my buying a season ticket. Just in case people haven't seen it.
Munzie Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 It's not broke, but what we have at the moment is shit! Can I see it? Yes Does it show me who is playing? Yes Does it give the score? Yes Does it show the time played/remaining? Yes Why is it shit?
The Blur Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 A large screen at the Walkers, just like Arsenal does??? Laughable idea. What for? Instant replays??? When you go to a match, I thought it was always for the real-time experience, not TV-like spoon-fed entertainment, distracting from the action on the pitch. If at all, then they could give the scoreboards a revamp and exchange them for something slightly bigger (or more legible), offering further, additional advertisement options. In my opinon, I would like to see it installed because it would be useful for fans with poor eyesight such as me ( lazy eye) which would miss goals or pentaly shouts etc but I don't want it installed at expenses of other factors- Players,Wages and Debts etc

I would like the club to invest in a lift to facilitate my journey from the tea bar to the top of the kop. If they could also run to a human-scale conveyor belt up the hill as far as the Dry Dock, that would also be appreciated. It need not involve excess expenditure as I understand that Mr. Dickov might possess the DIY skills to install such equipment, so it would be parts cost only, no labour costs.

Alexikokopops Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Can I see it? YesDoes it show me who is playing? Yes Does it give the score? Yes Does it show the time played/remaining? Yes Why is it shit? If you sit in L1 and have to look at the board above the Kop: Can I see it? No Does it show me who is playing? No Does it give the score? No Does it show the time played/remaining? No It does show the time of day though. It's a bloody glorified clock at the moment.

Corky Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 It does show the time of day though. It's a bloody glorified clock at the moment. It's like being back at Filbert St (for those who sat in the Filbert St end).
One Half Wonder Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Not fussed about a big screen - having two working scoreboards would be nice for starters. yeah, how come our scoreboards are worse than at Filbert Street? we used to get goal flash's on that one n everything!
CosbehFox Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 yeah, how come our scoreboards are worse than at Filbert Street? we used to get goal flash's on that one n everything! It's frown upon by the Football League in doing goal flashes now to avoid the artitifical fixing of matches.
Matt Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 It's frown upon by the Football League in doing goal flashes now to avoid the artitifical fixing of matches. They did it at Hereford.

I was thinking of partial sighted supporters, maybe they would accepriate and enjoy the screens?
CosbehFox Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 They did it at Hereford. Couldn't see it at Edgar St but apparently Wednesday got slapped wrists for putting the Preston score on the scoreboard during the Cardiff game.
