TrickyTrev Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 They should bite anyones hand off who offers that. £20 mill, 2 new solid centre backs, or 1 powerhouse centre mid would do them nicely. They should have eduardo fully fit next season to replace him as well I think they'll sell Adebayour to Inter, buy a world class centre back and a holding player and they are title contenders.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 I think they'll sell Adebayour to Inter, buy a world class centre back and a holding player and they are title contenders. Which leaves them with Bendtner and V.Persie in terms of out and out strikers, neither of which are any good.
lildave3 Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Which leaves them with Bendtner and V.Persie in terms of out and out strikers, neither of which are any good. Yup, and even RVP isn't an out and out striker imo. Something they really need to sign.
Mickyblueeyes Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 If Arsene could go to the Bernabeu and get some of his lads to sign then I'm feeling... Casillas Ramos - Gallas - Pepe - Clichy Diarra - FabregasArshavin - Van Der Vart - RobbenVan Nistlerooy I doubt Arshavin and Cesc would sign for Real, they're both die hard barca boys! Then money does talk. As for Wenger and Arsenal. Think they'll be the real contenders next year with 3 major additions.Wenger has spent the last two building quite a decent squad and now its about adding the finishing touches.I would trust Wenger rather then Benitez to do this.
Uncle Albert Posted 22 May 2009 Author Posted 22 May 2009 Gallas is shite This. You both talk shite. <_<
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 William Gallas is not shite. He's been one of the finest foreign defenders since the Premiership formed.
dandannieldanok Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 William Gallas is not shite. He's been one of the finest foreign defenders since the Premiership formed. I think he was fantastic at Chelsea, but despite him constantly saying he's not a full-back I personally don't think he's played well at centre-half for Arsenal at all. He's not shite but I personally don't rate him too highly.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 I agree that he's lost his way a bit at Arsenal but he's still at "Big 4" quality player.
shen Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 Which leaves them with Bendtner and V.Persie in terms of out and out strikers, neither of which are any good. And Vela and Eduardo... Who seem to be quite good/promising. And 22 goals in 35 apps this season seems quite good to me, re: RVP.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 I think Wenger was holding Eduardo back a bit because of the intensity of some of the games they were playing towards the end of the season. I'd be surprised if, next year, he wasn't back to being rotated as a first-choice striker like he was in his first season with the club. I've never really rated van Persie that highly. I think he flatters to deceive a lot of the time. Adebayor is far too inconsistent to be a front-line striker at a big four club and sadly needs to move on. Elsewhere, they seem to have a vast army of players who are not quite good enough to be title winners but the nucleus of a decent back four when all are fit, two brilliant midfielders and a lot of promise. A fully fit Arshavin for a whole season will make a huge difference though.
Uncle Albert Posted 22 May 2009 Author Posted 22 May 2009 A fully fit Arshavin for a whole season will make a huge difference though. Very true. What Wenger would of gave to of had Arshavin for the full season, if they did have him for the season then I think they certainly would of won a trophy and possibly of finished above Chelsea in the League. I wouldnt be surprised if they played him alot more central next season behind Van Persie or Eduardo in a Gerrard role. Certainly thats where I think he will be more effective. Gallas is a better full back I think aswell, when he was at Chelsea this is where he was playing week in week out because Terry and Carvalho werent moving for nobody and Gallas was a vital player in the two seasons they won the League at full back. His goal against Tottenham was from this position. I think he would be alot better at playing right back for Arsenal over Sagna and think Wenger would be better off bringing in a centre half, possibly two because Toure has been pretty average of late. Djorou one for the future?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 And Vela and Eduardo... Who seem to be quite good/promising. And 22 goals in 35 apps this season seems quite good to me, re: RVP. Eduardo has had another operation recently. I think he'll struggle to ever make a full recovery and will be surprised if he ever manages 20 league goals in one season. I rate Vela, but he doesn't seem to have been given a chance, not even ahead of Bendtner who is absolute dogshitwankbollocksballscrap. I'd love to see him play but don't think that he'll develop much if he's not getting enough minutes on the pitch. Van Persie is not the player to get Arsenal the goals they need. And according to Soccerbase it's only 19 goals, a few coming against lesser teams in the FA Cup. He should be around his peak now, and from what I've seen I just don't think he's consistent or ruthless enough to be Arsenal's favoured striker. 9 league goals this season.

To be quite frank, I've not been impressed with Bendtner this season. He's missed way too many chances, but his approach play and his positional play has improved no end. The way he beat Rio Ferdinand time after time when they beat Man Utd convinced me that the lad has potential. It might sound biased, but I just feel the criticism of him has been very harsh. It seems the Arsenal fans and the media have wasted no time jumping on his and Eboué's backs, and his off-field antics have obviously not helped with this. RVP still averages more than a goal every other game, which is still a decent strike rate. He might not be the most lethal finisher, but along with 12 assists that's a decent season. Vela will obviously get more game time next season, but you can understand why Wenger uses Bendtner, especially when Adebayor is out. He's basically the only other striker with any physical presence, and how often have RVP, Walcott, Nasri and Vela not just been bullied out of the game this season? Ultimately I share the opinion that they could benefit greatly from a world-class striker a la David Villa or Karim Benzema, but if (and that's a huge if!) they stay fit, Eduardo/Adebayor/RVP/Vela/Bendtner/Walcott and Arshavin should prove to be enough firepower to challenge at the top.
Ultra Posted 24 May 2009 Posted 24 May 2009 Even if they get a world-class striker, their midfield and defence is still too brittle for them to challenge for serious honours. It's the FIFTH season in a row that Arsenal have finished below Chelsea in the league. And for fans paying up to £1000 for a season-ticket, this really matters. Wenger needs to stop whinging to the media and focus on how he can improve his squad.
J.Lisemore Posted 24 May 2009 Posted 24 May 2009 Arsenal will win the Premier League next season. Behave.
Koke Posted 24 May 2009 Posted 24 May 2009 It's the FIFTH season in a row that Arsenal have finished below Chelsea in the league. And for fans paying up to £1000 for a season-ticket, this really matters. And so they should. It would be fucking embarrassing if a club with Chelsea's spending power cannot finish above Arsenal who are trying to compete with cheap bargains and kids. I agree, they need to sort out their defence. Gallas is an excellent defender on his day, but he's bound to throw one of his random hissy fits now and again. Their biggest problem is the midfield. They never replaced Flamini and that has cost them dearly. I don't think Arsenal need a massive overhaul. Their core of the team is excellent - they just need a quality striker, a midfield partner for Fabregas and a CB. A goal keeper would be good as well. And on top of that they have Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere coming through. These two lads will be worth gazillions in the future. All this hoo-haa about Arsenal going into mediocrity is bollocks. They don't need to spend gazillions of pounds. Last year they were fighting for the title up until March when Eduardo broke his leg and it all went tits up - Arsenal will come good.
