Webbo Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 I remember it well, I always used to get my records from there in my record buying days.
Libertine Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Me too. I went in Rockaboom on Monday. I wish it was bigger, it has some awesome stuff in. Way rarer stuff than HMV.
Katy Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 So do I, cracking shop. Could find all sorts of rare stuff in there.
Edmund Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Me too.I went in Rockaboom on Monday. I wish it was bigger, it has some awesome stuff in. Way rarer stuff than HMV. Rockaboom is quite good, always find some deleted vinyl in there. Only because no other fooker knows it's in there. Only thing I hate with that shop is when you want to pre listen to some vinyl before buying they treat you like your going to knick the bugger. I mean you have to stand face to face at the counter with the clerk watching your every movement whilst listening to the tunes. Shit like that annoys me as I want to be under no pressure when buying. Ainleys was good. Found some good stuff in there. Use to always get a pizza hut slice and then venture in for some cd's.
Flynny Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Great Chef, you'd never guess he's in his 50's either. ... oh.
Edmund Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Great Chef, you'd never guess he's in his 50's either.... oh. Ainsley

I can remember Revolver records being about where the main High Cross entrance is now, but I'm sure there were two branches of that, although I'm not sure where the other one was
Guest Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Was a quality shop. Also, Back Track. Since it's moved it's not been quite the same

Very cheap but they never had the right sleeves on the records. I bought 'Blue Monday' from there in a plain black sleeve,I didn't realise until later that it had a special sleeve that meant that the record was sold at a loss.

I think the one in the high street did, before it was all knocked down and the Shires built in its place
Webbo Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Did it turn into HMV? I think the one in the high street did, before it was all knocked down and the Shires built in its place Tbh I didn't know there were 2 Revolvers. The 1 I remember must have closed about 83/84.
hairy Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Did it turn into HMV? I think the one in the high street did, before it was all knocked down and the Shires built in its place The one in the Market Placet did turn into an HMV. There was a second one on a corner near the clock tower, about where the entrance to Highcross is now. Revolver was a great shop. Always busy on a Saturday, the cheapest place in town and a good choice of records. There was no HMV or Virgin then just WH Smiths, Brees, a stationers on Market Street and a few second hand stores.

That proves I'm not insane then. I've said this before but I work with a lady who ran St Martins Records with her husband, which used to be on the corner of Horsefair Street at the Market Street junction. What I cannot remember is that shop being on the High Street, which it was originally. I'm sure she's got that right, you'd think she'd know, wouldn't you?

I remember the first time that my dad took me into the store that was on High Street. I was about 5, and I think I stood there looking like the child from the Disneyland advert!!

Bellend Sebastian Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 I can remember it being on high street Where on High Street was it? You don't have to be precise. We're straying off topic a bit here, but does anyone else remember the old Co-op department store on the high street? I can recall being bought a Luke Skywalker figure in the toy department, which was in the basement, in about 1978. Christ I'm getting old

hairy Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 Almost where HMV is now. I think Yes I remember it now too. I bought Eloise by the Damned (my first CD single from there) but I think it was the other side of Lloyds bank to HMV on the corner of the road which had Wolfies sandwich bar on it. The other end of the street is still there and was (is still?) the entrance to the Shire's carpark

That's St Peter's Lane, isn't it?
