Alexikokopops Posted 30 March 2011 Posted 30 March 2011 Threads like this make me wish I was old so I could reminisce about the good ol' days. Sort of. I'm only 24 and remember popping in the Wayahead ticket place in Lincoln. Next to Andy's Records. This probably means nothing to you or most people on here, but I'm enjoying it I wonder if Sonic Sounds is still going?

Trav Le Bleu Posted 31 March 2011 Posted 31 March 2011 Was the the one down Grandby Street? Yeah it was - opposite Bugaloo Records. Think it moved to Cank St in the last throws of its life.

angua27 Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 I remember the Carousel Pub very well. I used to work there even had to dress up on the odd occasion. We used to do things like come out dressed as a clown when they played Cathy's Clown and dressed as a camel for Egyptian Reggae and other stuff like that. They used to have drag artists on some evenings and male strippers. They had female strippers on at lunch time. I remember a couple of the DJ's there just wondered if you are one of the ones i remember!!!!

I also did the Revolting Food Eating competition and the games on stage such as the girl having to get a raw egg (in it's shell) up one trouser leg and down the other, of a bloke pulled from the audience. Stupid stuff but what a larf. I would lead the final sing-song, "You'll Never Walk Alone"

When did you work there?

When did you work there? I am Nick. I was there from '77 until 1980 when the owners moved to a cabaret bar in Wigston called Stars 'n Bars. I then moved back to the Carousel when John Cole was the owner I was there until it closed down under the ownership of Sam (and his wife, name forgotten) and I was there until it closed down in about '86. I can't remember Pete being a DJ.. certainly there was a Paul Gary, sadly now deceased. I remember Andy (his G/F worked the bar I think), Hamish, Richard "Ricardo" (cocktail waiter haha). Remember the Honey Monster?

Parafox Posted 11 April 2011 Posted 11 April 2011 Shame you're not Pete. That would have been too good to be true! I know... for a minute as I was reading it, my mind went into turmoil, thinking, who.. who.. i cant remember her... oh God... skeletons... closet...
Free Falling Foxes Posted 11 April 2011 Posted 11 April 2011 We should start a petition for both Ainleys and BPM to re-open in Leicester!! I miss Ainleys especially. I don't. After a couple of experiences, I vowed never to go in there again - and I didn't. First incident was when a friends wife took an LP back because it 'jumped'. They put it on their record player and made her listen to it - without any problems. Their pick-up probably had a brick on it. I too took a faulty record back and had no end of grief. I stuck to my guns though and they changed it. I never had these problems elsewhere. Good riddance I say.
