edd Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 it has to be martin keown the former arsenal man i must admit he was a bit of a suprise
dandannieldanok Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Carl Cort - sheer disbelief that we signed someone so injury prone and generally crap. The way it was talked up and the fuss the club made over it was probably the most disbelieving thing.
Guest Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Collymore first and foremost, after that Keown, Mancini, Les Ferdinand was almost up there with Collymore, Flowers, Darren Eadie at the time seemed a great buy, Pontus Kaamark, Mark Draper, Garry Parker (bloody blinding he was!) thats all I can come up with right now
MC Prussian Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 None, really. We always seemed to have fared best in the past with some of the (allegedly) most unproven, unknown, unfit or oldest players you can think of. Collymore being an exception. Think of Walsh, Izzet, Elliott, Marshall, Eadie, Savage, Guppy, Parker, Ferdinand, Ullathorne et al.
demon_dog Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 More recently, Stan Collymore and goalkeeper Ian Walker. Way back when, Allan Clarke, although he turned out to be not the player we thought he was (for us anyway). Macini was very good, I thought possibly a bit too clever for the team around him, as such at times he could look poor due to others not reading his intelligent passing.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I was well chuffed with Clemence, Oakley and Howard.
Cropwellfox Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Ricky Hill... ...unfortunately at the time i hadn't realised that with advancing age sometimes ability fades... I'll never forget the day that he had to have a breather after warming up next to the family enclousure. Hilarious!!
Zingari Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 most of the jimmy bloomfield signings were sit up and take notice special , weller worthington kember garland sammels eddie kelly webb earle we were in danger of becoming a "fashionable " club for the first and only time
carterfox90 Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 show my age now mind you i was young at the time worthington liverpools loss was our great gain pure class that team was the reason i fell in love with city collymore him & heskey would have been awesome flowers great goalie kaamark what a defender man marked juninio out of the final & replay the reason we won it imo great defender
Candidcamera Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Allen Clarke - a real surprise Derek Dougan - but more for the shock horror when we sold him on the transer deadline. Keith Weller/ Jon Sammels/ Birchenal. Frankie Wortho Stan Collymore Ferdinand
FoxesFan123 Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Lilian Nalis - a Frenchman playing in Seria A coming to us?!?!?!
Wycombe Fox Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I've been jumping out of my seat from 1971 to 2002; Alan Birchenall Jon Sammels Keith Weller Frank Worthington Steve Earle Chris Garland Steve Kember Steve Lynex Gerry Daly Steve Claridge Tony Cottee Stan Collymore Tim Flowers Roberto Mancini Ian Walker Les Ferdinand No-one after Sir Les has made me leave my seat!
Sparky Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Collymore Mancini Flowers Ferdinand Connolly to name a few
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I was quite excited when we signed DJ Campbell! Collymore, Impey (always liked him at QPR), Marcus Bent, Iwan Roberts, Speedie (Not due to excitment!), Marco Ferreira (He just had a good player name) , Ferdinand, Dublin and Connolly
Dan Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Stephen Clemence Steve Howard Matt Oakley Aleksandar Tunchev I was quite excited when we signed DJ Campbell! Collymore, Impey (always liked him at QPR), Marcus Bent, Iwan Roberts, Speedie (Not due to excitment!), Marco Ferreira (He just had a good player name) , Ferdinand, Dublin and Connolly I was in a way but that was down to the transfer fee.
Finnegan Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Not necessarily when he signed but I saw the Barcelona friendly at the Walkers and was ludicrously excited about Nalis. His range of passing and his work rate were absolutely exceptional. What the fuck happened after that is beyond me.
Alexikokopops Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I remember blanking the price from my mind and being excited when Howard and Oakley came. That was the latest.
THEfox Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Cottee and Collymore, Just imagine if those two had played together, Mmmmmmmm!
Old Aylestone Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 We had just been promoted from the old Second Division. On the same day Jimmy Bloomfield signed Keith Weller and Alan Birchenall. Both were proven players at the highest level and in one fell swoop it showed the board were serious about becoming a top half of the First Division team. We all know what a great servant Birchenall has been. If grounds had been all-seater in those days Keith Weller would have had fans constantly out of their seat. With all due respect to Glover, Worthington, Lineker etc Keith Weller was IMO easily the most exciting Leicester player I have ever seen.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 On the flipside, just talking about signings a few years back - my Dad told me a story the other day about how him and his mate (both Leicester fans) were driving to a work thing in Peterborough one day and it came on Radio Leicester that we'd sold Kitson to Derby and got Ormondroyd and Gee in part-exchange - and they pulled into a lay-by because they were that much in shock. And when Corica signed and the commentary mentioned him in the first game of the season away at Sunderland and I didn't have a clue who he was. Transfer deadline day, sitting looking at Teletext wondering who the hell M Izzet was. I miss those days. Now we'd know about it 2 weeks beforehand, look them straight up on Wikipedia and already formed our opinions based on a load of their old clubs fans slagging them off on the internet. Sad state of affairs in a lot of ways. I loved it when we signed Mancini and Collymore. Darren Eadie too. They must have played less than 30 games for us between the three of them.
