On the flipside, just talking about signings a few years back - my Dad told me a story the other day about how him and his mate (both Leicester fans) were driving to a work thing in Peterborough one day and it came on Radio Leicester that we'd sold Kitson to Derby and got Ormondroyd and Gee in part-exchange - and they pulled into a lay-by because they were that much in shock. lol

And when Corica signed and the commentary mentioned him in the first game of the season away at Sunderland and I didn't have a clue who he was.

Transfer deadline day, sitting looking at Teletext wondering who the hell M Izzet was.

I miss those days. Now we'd know about it 2 weeks beforehand, look them straight up on Wikipedia and already formed our opinions based on a load of their old clubs fans slagging them off on the internet.

Sad state of affairs in a lot of ways.

I loved it when we signed Mancini and Collymore. Darren Eadie too. They must have played less than 30 games for us between the three of them.

We also signed Bobby Davison about the same time as phil gee both were/are derby legends, just moved to derby then I had the piss taken out of me constantantly for signing all those derby rejects. RAMMED it down thier necks when we beat them in them playoff final :giggle:

Remember corica making his debut at sunderland and scoring, thought he was gonna be the next big thing. Auzzy international. Played well for about 12 games then fizzeled out. Should of known better being a mcgee signing.

Forgot all about eadie another great shout, awesome at Norwich. Think he got an England call up at the time under Hoddle. Got injured at city ended his career quite early on We never got to see the best of him.

I remember the Kitson,Gee and ormondroyd saga well.

Going back a few years before that though i was well chuffed about Ricky Hill,big let down though.A david Pleat signing :rolleyes:

Some of those mentioned have been great signings, and yet many of them we didn't know were great until we got them (Izzet & Lennon for a start)

Similar with Cort, when he was playing at Wolves he always looked a danger against us, then came and was shit.

Collymore was quality.

I was excited when we signed a 6ft7 tall goalkeeper who had been keeping Mark Bosnich out of the Australia National Team with a brilliant nickname of spider!!

I was so chuffed and then a cross came in!!!

What a crock of shit he turned out to be!!! Still cant beleive hes at AC milan these days!!!

Not necessarily when he signed but I saw the Barcelona friendly at the Walkers and was ludicrously excited about Nalis. His range of passing and his work rate were absolutely exceptional.

What the fuck happened after that is beyond me.

He scored one of the best goals i've ever seen at the Walkers :P

Infact he scored 2 or 3 there, stunning :celebrate:

come to think of it, the later years, say 2004 and on, I have been more or less always happy when a known name has showed up at our club.

I remember not being all that happy when Dennis Wise signed for us. :S

And I remember being excited about mr Collymore, Freund, Connolly, Nalis (seemed to be that small gem we'd routinely find), Wesolowski joined with so much promise, Dabizas, Keown and I had high hopes for Momo!

Best goal I've seen live :).

Can't remember him ever scoring again at the Walkers though.

Frank Sinclair was a surprise... he was playing for Chelsea for god's sake, and now we have him.

I remember hearing on the radio about Mark Draper's transfer too. They couldn't decide on a fee and it went to a tribunal in the end. These were the days when you had to rely on radio, newspaper and teamtalk - anyone else remember that!

Some of those names are obvious, but I can't believe nobody has mentioned Matt Jones. I can remember thinking at the time we'd pulled off a major coup.
