Corky Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 The only good thing tonight was the cancellation of the opening ceremony.
Shram Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Good cricketers should be able to adapt, but twenty20 is an extreme version of the game. Look at someone like Andrew Strauss, piles on the runs in test cricket but struggles in one day is he a bad cricketer? And to be honest, it is all about the Ashes, the attendance tonight proved that and you can guarantee that both the English and Aussie players would rather win the Ashes. No he isn't a bad cricketer.. This is a 20/20 tournament, (a side selected again from the nation that has been playing the longest and invented 20/20) on home turf.. the ashes is the usual excuse used whenever England lose at pajama cricket.. losing to a decent side is fine but the Netherlands? As sportsman wearing there national colours i would expect anyone in England colours to show 100% commitment and drive to win whether it be the 20/20 world cup, the ashes or the U16 egg n spoon race at saffron lane..
dandannieldanok Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 I thought the attendance was pretty good considering we were playing a supposedly poor nation. Not bad at all, but in comparison with the Ashes, where tickets get sold out in hours, it isn't great.
Fox You Forest Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 The only good thing tonight was the cancellation of the opening ceremony. You must be joking surely! Alisha Dixon looked stunning.

You are right in what you say mate, I just personally think twenty20 makes a bit of a mockery of the game of cricket and for me this is a token tournament, a charade before the real business of the Ashes. But that's just me
Milky Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 You must be joking surely!Alisha Dixon looked stunning. When did you get to see her?
Corky Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 You must be joking surely!Alisha Dixon looked stunning. Apart from Alesha not given the stage. She's in for Rob Key against Pakistan
Fox You Forest Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 When did you get to see her? During the build up she was giving two old chaps autographs near the entrance to the pavilion.

But that's just me 20/20 fun in bursts.. there's an overkill.. but it does also increase crickets presence.. try getting a 10 year old to waste 6 hours a day for 5 days when they have pensioners to harass or steal from the offy! Ashes are great but there are plenty of other test playing nations that should be looked at just as intensely (if England want to be no1) On another note.. canceling the opening ceremony wasn't such a bad thing.. Alesha Dixon's hot an all but she should be seen and not heard!
Corky Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 My team for Sunday- Bopara Wright Pietersen Morgan Collingwood Foster Masceranhas Swann Napier Anderson Sidebottom
Fox You Forest Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Maybe it's just me but i don't rate Sidebottom in the slightest. The only time he offers something is when it's swinging even then it doesn't have much baring on either short form of the game. Everything he's doing now Hoggard was doing just as well if not better before him.
Milky Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 It's about time the Welsh got some fooking talent. Thanks for Simon Jones, but make with the rest already.
Salieri Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 My God we are shit. Embarassing result. This doesn't have a huge bearing on the ins and outs of the Ashes series but I for one will be lumping on the Aussies to win the series to nil.
Edmund Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 My God we are shit. Embarassing result. Brilliant result. The Dutch were fantastic, can't take it away from them, England aren't what they use to be and without Pieterson suffer.
MarkDeVries Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Oh my God you have to be shitting me. Sky Sports have got an absolute bonner over this.
Craig Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Oh my God you have to be shitting me.Sky Sports have got an absolute bonner over this. David Lloyd actually came when Broad overthrew.
David Guiza Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Fair play to Netherlands. But . I wonder what the odds on Netherlands to beat us and Andora or Kazhakstan to beat us is .
TrickyTrev Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Maybe it's just me but i don't rate Sidebottom in the slightest. The only time he offers something is when it's swinging even then it doesn't have much baring on either short form of the game. Everything he's doing now Hoggard was doing just as well if not better before him. It really isn't just you. He's a county trundler that shouldn't be anywhere near and England team.
TrickyTrev Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 My team for Sunday-Bopara Wright Pietersen Morgan Collingwood Foster Masceranhas Swann Napier Anderson Sidebottom You're dropping Broard for some fielding errors. He actually bowled really well in that last over and is far better than Sidebottom. Napier at 9? Try swapping him for Foster.
Sods Posted 6 June 2009 Author Posted 6 June 2009 Shocking for such a good start for the first partnership, i felt the batsmen were just throwing their wicket away, after Bopara went. Middle order needed another push from somebody to reach closer to 180. Bowling wasn't great either, i got the feeling they thought the game was over, fair play to Netherlands for getting themselves in the limelight. We needed a coposed head at the end then, Flintoff would have won that game. Pakistan is cruical.
Edmund Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Bowling wasn't great either We were very weak bowling wise. Fielding was also very complacent at times. The Dutch deserve full credit because the nerves were showing when they were making indecisive decisions looking for singles but thanks to some poor fielding they got away with it which on another day would have given England the win. Did anyone see the two batsmen run into each other.
Tevez Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Fair play to the Dutch, they never gave up and the biggest advantage was winning the toss when they both wanted to bat first. Some of the fielding was shocking, but could be down to the rainfall. Got to beat Pakistan.
