Brainy Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 So long as we beat Pakistan there's hope. If we can't beat the Netherlands there's no hope.
purpleronnie Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 You just can imagine the aussie press now. They will hold this defeat over us for years. We've got to go on and win it now, its are only option.
purpleronnie Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Surely Broad must've known it went to a super over if tied. Surely Broad! jesus. Thats exactly what I said to my dad,, makes you wonder if he really did know, surely he must......
Fox You Forest Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Stuart Broad really can't play international 20-20 cricket, can he?He got smashed for six sixes in an over by Yuvraj in the last tournament, and now he's produced a car-crash of a final over against the Dutch. The Aussies must be p!ssing themselves. With him in the side there's not a hope in hell of taking the Ashes off them. Thank God he doesn't play for Leicestershire anymore. I can't decide which to reply with harsh or ludicrous.
Corky Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 With only 3 teams in our group does that mean it's pretty much over ofr us even if we beat Pakistan? I think it comes down to net run-rate, which is complicated, but we'll need to beat Pakistan heavily and them do the same against Holland, then we'll have a chance.
dandannieldanok Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Let's be honest, in the grand scheme of things this isn't really important, this will have no bearing on the ashes whatsoever, twenty20 couldn't be more far removed from test cricket.
purpleronnie Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Pakistan will beat Holland, so hopefully we'll still have a chance.
Brainy Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 You just can imagine the aussie press now. They will hold this defeat over us for years. We've got to go on and win it now, its are only option. No worries. Zimbabwe 07.

Who cares this is the world 20/20 and were in it to win it, why not try and win both?

What was wrong with his final over? Bowling wise it was pretty good, they only managed a single of every ball, but then he ruined it by throwing the last ball. A 20/20 game has no bearing on the Ashes whatsoever, I somehow doubt the Aussies were pissing themselves anyway, even before this defeat.
Ultra Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Let's be honest, in the grand scheme of things this isn't really important, this will have no bearing on the ashes whatsoever, twenty20 couldn't be more far removed from test cricket. Wrong. This game will feature VERY heavily in the Aussie sledging, especially when Collingwood and Broad are at the crease.
purpleronnie Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 You don't know the aussies very well then. I dont think i can bring myself to listen to anymore matches its too painfull.

Ultra Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 No worries. Zimbabwe 07. Wasn't on their home turf though, was it?
Milky Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Our middle order tonight Shah = dibber dobber Colly = dibber dobber Morgan = dibber dobber Key = dibber dobber Get some **** meat in that sandwich
dandannieldanok Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Who cares this is the world 20/20 and were in it to win it, why not try and win both? Surely it would be good to win a trophy though? Of course it would great, but the reality is that anything can happen in 40 overs, whereas over 5 day matches the cream rises to the top so to say. I just cannot see why on earth this should suddenly weaken our chances in the Ashes when the situation will be completely and utterly different. Wrong. This game will feature VERY heavily in the Aussie sledging, especially when Collingwood and Broad are at the crease. If players can't handle a bit baiting and sledging then they shouldn't be playing test cricket.
Shram Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Good cricketers should be able to adapt whether its 20 overs, 50 overs or 5 days.. no excuse to say its all about the ashes... the ashes is a 2 team competition not a worldwide tournament... England have been playing 20/20 for years now and the excuse of the ashes only really surfaces every 20 or so years when England have a sniff.. Bad leadership, bad team selection and crap decision cost England this game.. Remember its easier to get a batsman out when he's trying to smack you out the ground then it is when he is trying to occupy the crease for 3 hrs..
RowlattsFox Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Our middle order tonightShah = dibber dobber Colly = dibber dobber Morgan = dibber dobber Key = dibber dobber Get some **** meat in that sandwich To be fair both Shah and Colly have been known to hit big-ish in the past. Key coming in lower down the order is ridiculous though, he's an opener or number 3. Having him come in and having Napier and Maschernas (sp, can't be arsed to look it up) sitting on the sidelines is criminal.
purpleronnie Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 I dont mind losing I really dont but its when we make stupid mistakes, we seem to make so many it just pisses me off, I just dont understand it, I'm sure its not just england but when we dont play smart it frustrates me. Playing smart is so important and it seems we need to learn how to do that, if we can then I feel we can be a great side, and that goes for other sports also. I just hope we thrash pakistan and still manage to creep through and I can forget it. But I know I'll be pissed off for a few days.
Fox You Forest Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 In the warm up games Pakistan looked as disinterested as the West Indies have been so I'm still fairly confident.

Good cricketers should be able to adapt, but twenty20 is an extreme version of the game. Look at someone like Andrew Strauss, piles on the runs in test cricket but struggles in one day is he a bad cricketer? And to be honest, it is all about the Ashes, the attendance tonight proved that and you can guarantee that both the English and Aussie players would rather win the Ashes.

I thought the attendance was pretty good considering we were playing a supposedly poor nation.
