foxoffderby Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Alex Cisak has signed a new short-term contract with Leicester to keep him at the club until December. The young goalkeeper originally joined the Foxes as a scholar in 2005 and contributed to the club's 2006/07 FA Premier Academy League triumph, playing alongside the likes of Andy King, Joe Mattock and Max Gradel. He was promoted to Leicester's first-team squad last season following a succession of goalkeeping injuries. Cisak did enough to impress manager Nigel Pearson and has now been rewarded with a new deal. He will be looking to continue his development when the new season gets underway after Leicester finished as League One champions to go up to the Championship. source:skysports.com

FleckneyFox Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Pleased with this. We need keepers and from what ive heard a good prospect. I think hes supposed to be better than Pentney and everyone forgot about Cisak after Pentney's 30 minute cameo. I think he'd be an ok Number 2.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 Good news at least one Australian is staying on this season.
misiuj Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 he should be the number 2 - the club's wasting more time and valuable money on half-baked never will be keepers such as Weale. We blew how much money on Jimmy...have fooked about with logan...brought in how many AVERAGE loan keepers (all of them AVERAGE) - This club has got to get back to doing what it does well - Developing players. When we buy players we buy them half-baked! Lets not forget that we develop good keepers. Time to start getting them amongst it. Get a good number 1 in, fook weale off, Cisak #2 and Petney #3

Giving players a chance doesn't suddenly mean they are going to become good enough, they need the right skills in the first place.

Six month contract for the emerging Cisak, 12-month contract for the seriously veteran Powell. That hardly sounds like thunderous encouragment for the youngster. Sounds to me like a short chance to go out on loan and impress enough to establish a career in football rather than any serious suggestion that he's likely to make it at Leicester. If Pearson really thought Cisak was destined to grow into the first team jersey he'd have been given far more than a six-month "lifeline". Hell, City were prepared to see the back of Gordon Banks to make sure they kept Shilton. Cisak needs a minor miracle to stay here long term. Not only does he need to impress some more. But he also needs the chance to impress and I've no idea how he'll get that. Best of luck to him though.

Powell maybe a veteran, but he's better to have at the club as a 'teacher' for the younger players. Plus there's talks of him going into a coaching role here anyway. As for Cisak, going out on loan is probably better for him. THere's no point paying for a contract length of 1 year if he's not going to get any games at all. Maybe Pearson doesn't see Cisak as one for the future and one who will make it big in the long-term, hence the 6month contract. It could be that if Cisak impresses in training, then he might actually get a chance. Cisak has 6 months to do this.
Munzie Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 What I read into a six month contract offering is.....prove yourself. Not a bad tactic to employ for any player who has yet to step up to the mark. Why offer longer term deals to players that you are unsure about? If they really want to play for the first team, they'll use their time well to prove their worth. Impress and further negotiations can be had. Fall short, fcuk off! As harsh as it sounds, giving someone a short term deal should only serve to enthuse/motivate the individual.
FleckneyFox Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 Joe Magunda was the last player to be given a 6 month contract at the start of the season. He's just been released by Conference South side Woking.

Thracian Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 Joe Magunda was the last player to be given a 6 month contract at the start of the season. He's just been released by Conference South side Woking. Doesn't surprise me. I never understood the football reasons as to why he was given a professional contract in the first place, and said so at the time. Yes he showed some promise as an Academy player but the academy play-offs final found him out. He didn't have the best time with injury thereafter and was rarely convincing as a reserves player even when he did play. Yes I saw worse but he was a five or six out of 10 player for much of the time whereas the lads who did break through were consistently seven or eight out of 10. Cisak? I've seen nothing to remotely compare him to the best novice goalkeper I ever knew, Peter Shilton. But the City Academy side was perhaps not the best place for a goalkeeper to excel, such was their dominance at the time when he played. He always looked pretty sound when I watched him but not memorably commanding. Shilton had presence on a football field from the time he was a nipper.
