davieG Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 But only 3 can be used. OS Meanwhile, the Football League have announced that all clubs will be required to name seven substitutes in matches during the forthcoming 2009/10 season. However the proposal, put forward by Derby County Football Club, will still mean only three of the players will be allowed to enter the field of play.
shen Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 But only 3 can be used.OS Finally coming to their senses... But why reiterate that only 3 subs may be used? Does the OS think we're idiots?
General Smuts Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Very good news i think. I'll get in thier first before Thracian does but i believe this will lead to more oppurtuntites for the young uns who will get more chances to be named on the bench and used if an injury occurs in thier position during a game. Fingers crossed that means we see more of Big Ricky and Chrissy P!
potter3 Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Good, gives managers more options on the bench, which hopefully means more attacking players FM is well ahead of the game It's only 5 subs on FM still
MarkDeVries Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Good, gives managers more options on the bench, which hopefully means more attacking players It's only 5 subs on FM still Well I am Spurs in the prem obviously, so is it only in the premier league? If so, my bad.
Edmund Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009  Well done Derby Have been wondering why the football league hadn't introduced this last year when the prem did.
maddog Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Excellent news. Chance for another couple of players to get a chance on the bench. We could either have a really strong bench of 7, or a very weak bench of 7
Hitesh Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Makes sense to do this. They had it in the Prem last season hence it being in FM.
Bluefoxtim Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Am I the only totally opposed to this? Surely it's part of the managers tactics and decision making as to who goes on the bench? Won't be seeing fat strikers in goal anymore that's for sure!
MPH Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Just to throw a spanner in the works... Firstly i totally approve of the idea... But does this effect the smaller clubs? will they have to pay match fees for 2 more people - win bonuses ect for 2 more people or do these things only happen if someone actually gets on the pitch? If so it wouldnt effect them any differently, of course...

You would be surprised how much players contracts are based on appearances.

Their squads are so small even a couple of injuries will cause problems for them.
Dezzee Rascal Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Some of the teams in the lower divisions will struggle to field 18 players. Their squads are so small even a couple of injuries will cause problems for them. Never mind lower division teams, we (Wednesday) struggled, and failed, to name 18 for the cup tie with Fulham last year. And our beloved neighbours with Premier aspirations, the Blunts, only managed 5 subs for their cup tie v Hull.
Number 6 Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 About time really. The Prem did it all last season, couldn't understand why the other league weren't bought into line, especially with the majority playing more games.
Munzie Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Cool Nigel can bang me on the bench then  Will he have time?
Guest Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Cool Nigel can bang me on the bench then  Degenerate
john_lcfc Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Im against this. Like someone else said part of the managers skill is whether he can name the right bench to give him the right options as a game pans out. i.e risk not naming a goalkeeper? Now he can practically name a reserve team.
AyewJoking Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Why are people against this? A couple of games into the season and it will all be forgotten about. Just makes the managers life a bit easier regarding selection and less chance of players getting the arse if they're left out.
