Striker Dion Dublin has been offered a new contract at Leicester City Football Club.

But Nathan Blake, Nikos Dabizas, Scot Gemmill, Keith Gillespie, Lilian Nalis and Ian Walker have been released after manager Craig Levein announced his retained list this lunchtime (Friday).

Teenage midfielder Stephen Dawson has also been offered new terms but James Scowcroft, Jason Wilcox and Lars Hirschfeld's futures at the Walkers Stadium will be discussed next week.

None of the players who have been released will figure at Plymouth Argyle on Sunday and therefore Walker's departure will pave the way for Canadian International Hirschfeld to make his Foxes first-team debut at Home Park at the weekend.

Former England international Dublin (36) arrived at City in the summer and has gone on make 41 appearances and score six goals.

The home grown star was recently named Players' Player at the club's end-of-season Awards evening and has hit a rich vein of form since the turn of the year.

Youth team product Dawson (19) has impressed City's management after strong performances in midfield for the Reserves this season.

Meanwhile, Greek international and European Championship winner Dabizas (31) spent almost two-and-a-half years with the Foxes, helping himself to 57 appearances and two goals.

Gemmill, previously with Nottingham Forest and Everton, played 18 times this season but found it difficult to hold down a regular place in the side while Nalis racked up 66 appearances.

The French midfielder also netted six goals including the wonder strike against Leeds United at the Walkers Stadium last term.

Northern Ireland international winger Gillespie enjoyed a new lease of life under Levein and scored his first goal for the club against Crewe back in February.

The ex-Manchester United, Newcastle and Blackburn player leaves after making 48 appearances and scoring two goals for the Foxes.

Walker moves on after nearly four years at the club.

He had almost been an ever-present in the side up until this season before being laid low with a knee injury which forced him to miss five months of the campaign. Walker made 156 appearances.

Blake moved to the East Midlands in July last year from Wolves but was hampered by injuries and made 15 appearances and scored one goal in a Leicester shirt

Amazed Scowcroft has been given an extra week  Does he want to wait for his loan deal to expire and tell him face to face? :ermm:

And Hirschfeld needs a bloody good debut if he is to get himself a new contract!

I imagine Scowy's will just be because he is off on loan and might have play offs etc too.

He'll be off.

And weve all heard how huge... lol, Anyway not happy about Walker, how can this Henderson from Bradford be as good as Walker?

Walker has missed most of the season, through injury.

maybe we can get pressman back ?

He is most probably on loads of money and to free that cash can only be good sense.

Walker is good enough, he could get himself a contract with one of the promoted teams.

I'm pleased Dion has got a new deal. I was getting concerned there would be no experience left in the squad and I think he is the kind of old head we will need. His versitility is also very useful and he ensures we are a threat from set pieces.

I suspect Walker has another offer on the table. If he would have signed a cut wages deal there is no reason levein would not wanted to have kept him. He is a class keeper just coming back into form and having a settled, reliable first choice for a number of years to come can be invaluable.

I hope to god that Dublin has takena drop in salary, I'm a bit unsure as to whether this is a good retention.

Delighted about Dawson.

The rest can all wander off into the distance without any sentimental bollocks. Walker had his time here but I remember his 3 month *injury* (ahem) when he took about £200,000 from us for feck all.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

It was a question as I have an unclear recollection that Dawson was injured. I could very easily be wrong. ;)

Maybe the injury played a part in CL's decision? Walker's kicking has been erratic since his return - And fans were starting to question his form before the Derby game. Personally, I'm disappointed Walker has been released as I feel he is one of the top 'keepers in this league.

I wasn't sure whether Dawson would be offered a new contract, so it's fantastic news that CL does see him as part of the future here.

Not surprised about Dublin - I'm glad he's been retained, although I'm sure he won't be on anywhere near his current wages.

Not bothered about the rest. ;)

Naah mate I don't think he is. I saw him against Arsenal reserves and he was buzzing.

He'll be in on sunday I reckon, it would make sense.

Put your hand up if you rate Dawson :D /
