Macclesfield Pre-Match

It would be nice to have a bit of a cup run but not a disaster if we go out Wednesday as we can then focus on League matters.

3 years ago we beat Macclesfield in the 1st round of the Carling Cup 2-0 with Chris O Grady and Paddy McCarthy getting the goals.

We have had some amazing cup matches in the Carling Cup recently though, especially 2 seasons ago, when we beat Forest away 3-2 after letting their keeper score at the beginning in the re-arranged match after Clive Clarkes heart attack.

We then went to Villa who put out a very strong side and beat them 1-0 with Fryatt scoring.

Then we went to Chelsea, one of the best matches i have ever seen, eventually losing 4-3 after Shevchenko stunner and Fat Frank scrambled goals in the last few minutes.

We also lost at Fulham 3-2 last season in a good game, and lost 4-3 there in the Fa Cup from 3-1 ahead <_< a few seasons back in a replay after drawing 2-2 at home when Cadamarteri grabbed a last minute equaliser.

So hopefully we can keep the winning going and get to the 2nd round. And fingers crossed have another classic cup match in the next round. Or maybe this one will be a classic who knows :P

I rekon it will be 1-0 to us.

I think it would be. Particularly if we then go on to lose as expected at Ipswich and we'll do well to get anything at Sheff Yoo. We need to win as many games as possible, including cup games. Success breeds success, I wonder how many time I'll be saying that again this season.

Totally agree. Cup runs can do wonders for any club. I've never bought the whole concept of "concentrating on the league", just doesn't seem to make any sense.

It sort of makes sense in that it can distract the players. If you've been drawn Chelsea in the FA Cup 5th round, but have a league game first, the Chelsea game will be in the back of you mind, you'd probably be a lot more careful about avoiding injury, therefore not putting quite as much into it.

Personally though, I love cup comps, and hope we have a decent run.

Defeat wouldn't be a good thing at all, especially not against a League 2 side.

Hopefully we'll win comfortably without too many problems.

What's with all this being negative?

They're not gonna score :D

It'll be like Walsall last season, where we end up chanting for the opposition to score one :P
